Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

If it turns out the rules are different from what you thought they were, I have no issues with your taking your turn again. I do reserve the right to make you use the same rolls though.

As I see it though, unless you’re earthgliding yourself, you cannot attack an Earth Elemental who is earthgliding.
Same with incorporeal creatures in a solid thing.

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

I need to pause this match while I do more research at the moment I am leaning towards (just a generalization) if your burrow speed is of a magical origin then yes you can melee/touch attack creatures within reach if it is from mundane origin I.E. race then no you may not attack other creatures underground.  If you are able to attack then similar rules as water apply.  Like I said this is my current thoughts but with tonight being a work night I (fell asleep at PC :() was unable to put in the proper time to give a ruling.
I just wanted to update you so you can be thinking of how to continue, thank you for your patience.

Let's go with GM's rule in OOC, for the most part I agree with him, the only part I have issue with is has no bearing on Brakt's actions.  Go ahead and adjust your rolls Brakt

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

Sorry, just to confirm.

I can attack Josep as stated, though he has total concealment, is that correct?

Josep has already stated that He reserves the right to make me use the same rolls.  Since I was blind anyway, the additional concealment from being underground would have no bearing on the attack.

As such, I believe the Elementals who can reach Q19+1 or R19+1 get a free AoO as I move away, but Josep still takes ~200 damage as described?

In reply to Brakt (msg # 100):

quote:
Burrowing: Creatures using burrowing speeds treat the ground in combat much like creatures with swim speeds would an aquatic environment except that instead of Swim checks there are Climb checks, instead of Flowing Water there is Seismic Activity, earthen material is always opaque unless exclusively noted otherwise, freedom of movement only assists creatures in these circumstances if they also have a burrowing speed, creatures on the ground always have "firm footing" assuming nothing alters gravity or the ground on which they stand, and weapon attacks treat earthen material as total cover from all directions. Thus, you must have at least some part of you sticking out of the ground to fight non-burrowing creatures while burrowing or must have both freedom of movement and a burrowing speed, though this still means foes still have total concealment from a fully submerged creature unless they are also burrowing and adjacent.

The bolded section is all you need to worry about, the rest is for attacking creatures above ground.  If I understand it correctly...:)

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

Okay, so I think I've got this now.

Turn as follows:

Hero Point Move: Move to Q19-1:R20-2. Trigger AoO from Elementals, but use Acrobatics to not trigger an AoO from Josep.
Full-Round: Full Attack at Josep using rolls as before.
Free: Open Eyes

17:01, Today: Brakt rolled 28 using 1d20+19 with rolls of 9.  Acrobatics to Move Through Josep's Threatened Squares DC25.

I can then attack Josep as normal, though he has Total Concealment, which makes no difference since I was blinded anyway.

As per rules for Aquatic Combat, Josep takes 1/2 Bludgeoning Damage, which means he'll take 133 damage.

Then I'll Open my eyes and end turn.

No Martial Flex this time, so uses are 4/10

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

At first I thought all three Elemental threatened at least of your squares, and rolled accordingly, but looking back it appears that only e1 and e3 can take that aoo. And luckyly for you, e2 was the one who would score a critical hit.

Anyways, e1 and e3 both take their aoo.

DICE ROLLS:
08:46, Today: Josep Gavinho rolled 21,23 using D20+17,2d8+15 with rolls of 4,5,3.  e3 aoo vs Brakt.
08:43, Today: Josep Gavinho rolled 34 using 1d20+17 with rolls of 17.  e2 confirm critical hit .
08:43, Today: Josep Gavinho rolled 37,22 using D20+17,2d8+15 with rolls of 20,3,4.  e2 aoo vs Brakt.
08:41, Today: Josep Gavinho rolled 21,25 using D20+17,2d8+15 with rolls of 4,3,7.  e1 aoo vs Brakt.

That’s 48 bludgeoning damage.

Brakt first attack hits, though he can tell that it didn’t hit as much as he thought it would.

The subsequent attacks seem to have left Josep unscathed (not that anyone can see that). An immediate action was taken.

Some maths to sort out with Brakt, but I think Latro can go ahead and take his turn.

Brakt groans as the elementals slam into him again, and again, but breaths a sigh of relief when he slips into the ground out of range.

Brakt falls to 43HP.

Also, you may have noticed a free perception check in the dice roller for Josep, it’s actually for Anjou and using his mod.
I’ll use it here though if someone insists on it (3 on d20...)

FYI and so we’re all on the same page, Josep used an immediate action (he’s literally 6 feet under so no one really knows what happened there) and is now down to 136/168 hp.

Latro is up.

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

So the first thing i'd like to do is identify Haran's darkness-like thing if at all possible as it's being cast.

06:54, Today: Latro Dectus rolled 22 using 1d20+19 with rolls of 3.  Spellcraft check vs Haran's darkness thing.

I'll be working on my turn while we learn if i know what it is or not. Knowing what it is won't effect my turn so i'll be posting my turn here shortly.

Thanks Bo.

Just as a final note, so i can make this map correctly, what is everyone's position, assuming i'm allowed to know it.
A lot happened between Josep and Brakt so i want to make sure i get everything right for Haran

Also, speaking of Haran

07:34, Today: Latro Dectus rolled 33 using 1d20+15 with rolls of 18.  Free Perception vs Haran's stealth.

why don't you tell me where you are, buddy? >;)

Latro - To identify my spell, you have to see me cast it. If you can see me cast it, then you haven't broken line of sight (necessary to use stealth with invisibility or invisibility-like-effects), and I should know where you are.

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

Latro's long time in the arena made him wary of many tricks and maneuvers. Fortunantly for him, Haran had decided the best arena to compete in was one with natural cover. Not only could he continue to move undetected by the other gladiators, but Josep's magic could not see through walls... at least not yet anyway so he was safe from him for the time being as well.

Fortunantly, Brakt had taken it upon himself to distract the Wizard giving Latro ample time to create his defense against whomever emerged victorious from that bout and the shadow mage across the way. This was time Latro would make sure not to waste. He would need every advantage he could muster to triumph with his power diminished so.

I have a general question, are we not doing that thing where we note what kind of action (swift, move, standard) was taken even if no one knows what those actions are?
