Fair enough.

I'll get a post up probably tomorrow for Opal and Svog's actions.

Re: Monster Hunt #18: Vry vs. Opal & Somatra

Before we go crazy, Nambtand did go down the hallway that's along row 5 if I'm reading the movement correct.  So the held action goes into effect. :)

DICE ROLLS:
00:15, Today: Somatra rolled 37 using 1d20+15+4 with rolls of 18.  attack roll.
00:19, Today: Somatra rolled 5,2 using 1d8+3,1d6 with rolls of 2,2.  normal dmg, cold dmg.

SUMMARY: Somatra peeks out from R4 and shoots as soon as she sees a target.

OOC:
So a grand total of 7 damage.  Maybe I'll eventually roll decently on a damage roll.  At least I finally hit someone.

Edit: That's +1 to the dmg so long as he was within 30ft

Re: Monster Hunt #18: Vry vs. Opal & Somatra

Okay, I am satisfied with Nambtand’s action even with the surprise attack in between.

Also, I see you’ve edited your post. Just so you don’t get in trouble for that in the future - never edit a post in a combat thread, post again and add the info instead!

Re: Monster Hunt #18: Vry vs. Opal & Somatra

The tentacles continue to hold their prey and squeeze them tight.
Svog runs off, away from opal with her spell component pouch in hand.
Opal leaves behind the tentacles and the two creatures and chances after Nambtand. "I didn't give you permission to go anywhere." Opal says as her eyes glint with pure malice for a brief moment. In that instant, a Hex was placed on the creature weakening his ability to resist the witch's debilitating effects. "Stay here and entertain this old hag, why don't you?"
She cackles an ear-piercing laugh and the Hex upon Nambtand worsens, despite Nambtand's best efforts to shrug it off.

06:55, Today: Madam Opal rolled 5 using 1d6+4 with rolls of 1.  Black tentacles damage.

SUMMARY: Opal Follows Nambtand and Hexes him with her Evil Eye. He must succeed a DC26 will save or take a-4 to all saving throws for 11 rounds. A successful save reduces this to only 1 round. Regardless of if it saves or not, Opal's Cackle increases the duration of the hex by one round.

OOC: As it stands, Cackle doesn't have any saves associated with it as it is only increasing the amount of time certain effects remain on a creature. Not the actual application of any effects. If the ref deems it necessary, we can treat Cackle as needing a DC 10 + 1/2 witch level + int (DC23) will save to negate the round increase like all the rest of Opal's Hexs (with the exception of Evil Eye which is higher because of reasons.)

Re: Monster Hunt #18: Vry vs. Opal & Somatra

The monsters struggle against the conjured tentacles, one breaking free and chasing down a corridor to find its way towards the enemies. Opal is charged by the weird man she flew after, he grasps after her and pulls her leg into his mouth, his teeth draining the strength out of her body.

OOC: Ooooh that disable device though, it succeeded on my first try but now - no! :P The tunnels are tricky - spend a round moving without seeing anyone, or stay a round and hope to open a passage...
I'm sure I'll hear something about attacking a flying enemy, so perhaps someone could quote some scripture on 3d-reach? Or maybe the ref knows this well and can make a swift ruling. I don't know where that stuff is defined anyway...
A medium creature is usually over 5 feet tall, so they probably do occupy two squares in height?

In reply to Vry (msg # 103):

Medium (and small) creatures, regardless of how tall they are, only have a reach of 5-feet in any direction unless they have an ability or weapon that allows them to reach further. So currently, Opal is out of reach of these things.

In other words

As for At-vat, when moving through difficult terrain, each square of movement counts as two squares moved so the furthest he could have gotten was L11

Right, but do they only occupy 5ft even though they generally are taller than 5ft?

Also, counted that distance from Urr for some reason. Long day at work... Please have At-vat stand at L11.

Re: Monster Hunt #18: Vry vs. Opal & Somatra

That's what I've been looking at, but it doesn't answer for 3d properly, not even when it comes to larger creatures whose reach on the ground is altered by them being tall or not. Medium creatures are listed as 4-8ft, an average human is over 5ft (4ft7in-6ft6in) and would thus probably be squeezing in in a room of 5ft height. I don't think it's clear cut in the rules, at all... I might be wrong here, but I'd appreciate a swift ref ruling :)

New issue.  Somatra was sitting at K9, expecting N to go through the wall and hoping the other 2 would stay stuck so she could just do potshots at them.  Even with that 40 stealth, I'm assuming A would see Somatra since it's right on top of her.

Re: Monster Hunt #18: Vry vs. Opal & Somatra

For all intents and purposes though, Somatra does have cover and no one succeeded on rolling their perception checks so they are flatfooted against her attacks should she choose to make any on her next turn.

Though opal's black tentacles have lost one foe, another still remains in their grasp. They crush opal's foe with ever increasing pressure. However, apparently At-vat's pushing through allowed Urr the chance he needed to escape the tentacles.

Opal dangles her foot down for the monster to try and get but pulls it away at the last moment, denying the monster a savory rat leg. She cackles at the little game she's found herself in now. What was once a threat to her is nothing more than a child's plaything to the flying witch.
"You've got to be quicker than that, old sport." Her eyes glint a second time at the creature and it feels like all luck was suddenly pulled from it's existence. "They say fortune favors the bold, however I think fortune has found you to be a poor horse to back." She cackles again, but this time with the might of her patron echoing through the walls of the arena.

Svog continues to aid where he can.

DICE ROLLS:
02:48, Today: Madam Opal rolled 23 using 1d20+21 with rolls of 2.  Black Tentacles Grapple check vs everyone in area.
03:06, Today: Madam Opal rolled 41 using 1d20+28 with rolls of 13.  Opal Hover in place DC15.

SUMMARY: Opal Hexes Nambtand again. This time with a Misfortune hex. Nambtand must succeed a DC23 Will save or be subject to the Misfortune hex for 2 rounds, causing him to roll twice and take the worse result for attacks, saves, skill checks, and ability checks. Success negates this hex completely. Nambtand cannot be targeted again by this hex again. Should he pass this save, however, Opal will have the opportunity to target him again next round with her Accursed Hex feat.
Regardless of if he passes or fail his save, he must then succeed a DC23 Will save Vs Opal's Cackle Hex. Failure results in both Evil Eye and Misfortune (should it be applied) having their durations extended by one round. If misfortune is applied, he must roll twice and take the worst result.
Remember that all these saves are rolled at a -4 because of Evil Eye.

OOC: And this is how Opal gets powerful against single opponents. Once misfortune is in effect, there's next to no hope of coming back from it. The target is basically doomed to fail vs all Opal's save or suck spells from here on out.

Somatra quickly leapt back away from the wall, across to the other side.  As she hit the second wall She released the arrow she had notched, quickly drawing and firing a second and a third after it.

Re: Monster Hunt #18: Vry vs. Opal & Somatra

yeah, greater heroism is going to be going for a solid 11 minutes so add it's bonus to anything you can.

the real question is if those attacks are ALL against a flat AC, considering they are completely silent shots (because of silence) against completely unaware opponents.

If so, thats an extra pile of d6's to roll for sneak attack damage.

also, who were those arrows fired at? I'm assuming its against Rreti cause he's closest but I could be wrong.

Yup, perhaps a question best answered by ref! Are all attacks against ffac? If not, the third is a miss if I’m not mistaken.

3rd attack if a hit is without sneak attack either way. I’ll have a post up tomorrow evening Swedish time, probably.

Re: Monster Hunt #18: Vry vs. Opal & Somatra

So to clarify, with Greater Heroism that last attack was a 22, so it hits regardless.  I want to say Somatra only gets the 1 sneak attack in the round, but we'll see what the Ref says.

Also, Somatra has low-light and dark vision, so if those d100 were for the miss chance in the dark it doesn't matter.  If it's some other reason then ignore me.

Sorry, attack was against At-vat.  I thought I'd specified.

Re: Monster Hunt #18: Vry vs. Opal & Somatra

At-vat does have cover since you can only draw an unimpeded like from one of your corners to one of their corners, thus the AC for the purpose of this attack is 25 unless still flat-footed. Does silence work through a 5-foot wall? Perhaps it does.

Also, the d100s weren't for concealment, but for monster defensive abilities! :)

Re: Monster Hunt #18: Vry vs. Opal & Somatra

The monster which is now very much falling into Opal's magic grasp makes some remarkably swift motions with his hands, and begins floating up into the air until he is face to face with her. On the other side of the wall, another monster comes shuffling towards the slayer who has now opened fire. He bites her, ripping through her skin.

I should add, that At-vat does not take fully as much damage as would be expected from the attacks. Although the sneak attack from the first one was in fact successful.
