"And the fact that this village has been attacked by Trollocs and a Fade last Beltine. Here, all this way south of the Blight." Thayna pause again she really hoped that this information might overwhelm Hadara if only for a bit. Feed you so much information that she would need to examine all of it bit by bit, that is what Browns did.

Re: In the Lands of Manetheren
Hadara rose from her chairs and positioned herself to stare at them all as her eyes swept around, at the Accepted and their guards.

"You Accepted," HEr words accented that word. "and your guards and this other group destroyed two and half fists of Trollocs and not one or two but three Fades. How, in the name of the Light did that come to pass?"

Re: In the Lands of Manetheren
Nerissa was feeling more assured in the way things were progressing with the interview with Hadara Sedai. "The fighters in both groups made some good strategic and tactical decisions. The Fades made poor decisions."

"The two men of the other group, especially the man with the wolves, were fierce fighters. The Aiel woman fighter was quick and silent. The two female Wilders in the other group were a bit stronger than Thayna and I. They all fought well together."

"In fact, we all fought well... because the only other possibility was to die."

Nerissa carefully considered whether to comment, and decided in favor of a moment of candor, "Myself, I would not wish to face even one trolloc alone. But we were much more, together, than each of us would have been as individualls."

Re: In the Lands of Manetheren
"Yes, we leaned how to link up with each other and the others. That and the fact that with the first attack in the village we were ale to set up a trap that caught most of the Trollocs in it and then we sealed it. The Idea came from Raiel the Far Dareis Mai, that is what she called herself. She saw the lay out of the village as a possible trap. Melina said we could lay a trap, my creating a funnel of Ward Against Shadowspawn and hardened air to catch them in. Once the rest of the Trollocs and the fade were well inside the trap it was sealed across the back with hardened air, and we then cast fireballs into the trap.  Azara put a shield up over us of hardened air to keep their arrows and spears off of us. Until the trap was closed there was fighting by Ahlandra, Jennor, Xander, Raiel, and two Ogier that were in the village.  They kept the Shadowspawn away for us the whole time."

Re: In the Lands of Manetheren
Hadara at that point sat down. "Enough for now. We will speak of other things for now. Though I mean to have ever words spoken again and again until I know everything there is to know."

"You said this Raiel called herself Far Daris Mai, That is in the  Old Tongue.  It includes Maiden and Spear. Tell me more about this woman. You said she did not carry a sword only spears, bow  knife and buckler.  Does that sound familiar my Gaidin? I think you do."
and

"Yes, Hadara Sedai.". Her warder fingered a scar on his cheek a thin barley visible scar. "Aiel with little doubt but what so far from the Waste--Far Dareis Mai means Maiden of the Spear. I remember too, from the Battle of the Bloody Snow on Dragon Mount. One had me backed to a wall. Then their horns blew all over the mountain and she just turned away joined her sisters and then all the Aiel left the field, left Dragon Mount, and returned to the Waste."
They said we chased them off I never believed that. I heard they Killed Lamond a bit later. That was it. I think that was all they wanted. Not our lands, no. Just Lamond for cutting down that damn tree.

Ahlandra si Bashan Kellan:
As response to the Aes Sedai Ahlandra simply nodded her head in confirmation of Jennor.

As the Aes Sedai and the Accepted continued to talk among themselves, Jennor leaned over to Ahlandra and said in a soft tone, "You know, after stating it out loud like that, it really does sound impressive... if not more than a little improbable.  We managed to take on more Trollocs than the Borderlanders tend deal with in a typical hit&run raid from the Blight.  It is surprising that we managed to survive with so few casualties thus far... not that losing Alton doesn't still hurt."

Bren watch the little shred of conversation he picked up with interest, impressive these youngsters had shown initiative most sister would not, they used the one source with more ingenuity then he ever believed possible.

Of course this may come as a hindrance if it irk the Aes Sedai, not that he thought Hadara Sedai was such woman but there were other Aes Sedai waiting in the tower.

Things were looking up. Hadara Sedai was bringing others in to the conversation, as well as bringing up other topics.

Did Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah get sidetracked from the main point with peripheral issues? That was interesting. Nerissa had always thought that she would choose the Brown Ajah. Did she often get sidetracked herself? She wold have to watch herself in the future.

Thaysa's eyes meet Nerissa's momentarily  mimicing a sigh of relief--without any sound.

"I think I would like to get a bath and rest, It has been a day fraught with difficulties, and  I am tired.  Hadara Sedai do we have permission to go to our room for now?  Ahlandra will share it with us for the night.  Jennor had his own room.  I do not know what others are available but since the others ordered rooms and I don't think that they will be back. Those should be available."

Bren you will make sure the other keep them safe. We will \ be leaving in the early morning to return to owerthe White Tower."

And with that you are dismissed, that much is clear as the fact you
will be watched and confined to the inn.

Jennor cast a worried glance at Ahlandra before he took a step forward and gently cleared his throat before speaking in a deferential tone, "Pardon the intrusion Hadara Sedai, but...umm... are Ahlandra and I to be "watched" as well, or in addition to the watch being kept on the Accepted?  Are our movements restricted to the Inn too?"

I suppose as I am still technically a "warder-in-training" as yet, I have no choice but to comply with Hadara Sedai's decree.  But what of Ahlandra?  She is not bound by oath to the White Tower, though in principle Aes Sedai often seem to consider EVERYONE bound to the White Tower in one fashion or another.

And is Bren being assigned to "guard the guards"?  I'm not sure I like the idea of having someone "watching over me".

Ahlandra had gone very still at the Aes Sedai's parting words and her eyes narrowed ever so slightly.  As Jennotr asked his question she looked out of the corner of her eye to see if this 'Hadara Sedai' imagined for a moment that she would blindly follow the order of a random Aes Sedai.  she remained still and composed while she waited for Hadara to respond.
I hope this Aes Sedai isn't so foolish to think that she will just be able to say frog and have ME jump to her tune.

Bren nod is ever the slightest.

He turn his stony gaze at Jennor and Ahlandra his tone business like "We will take three shift once night is upon us, Ahlandra, you will take the first shift, then I will follow and Jennor will take the last."

He motions "We will stand outside the door, if need be take a short patrol to the stairs and back."

Looking between the two he asks "Questions?"

Hadara who had turned away after her brief pronouncement, turned back to regard Jennor's after his question. "An interesting question. Why do you ask? Do you feel you are complicit in this matter in any wrong doing since leaving Murane Sedai?

She regards both of the Accepted's guards for a long moment.. "I think not, but it must be examined more carefully. There is more to this matter than has been told. You question confirms that much. If I thought you had any hand in all this, you would not have been put on guard. I do not know all the facts of this matter yet, but by their own words they are at risk from something determined to to stop them and you from what you  were sent to do. I will lean what that is.. That is why you will stand guard. I will put up wards to deter as much as I can but there are always ways to get around those if one is strong enough. I would better know what steps to take if I knew more." Hadara Sedai hinted broadly.

"Will you continue to keep them safe?"

Re: In the Lands of Manetheren
Jennor's eyes narrowed slightly in consternation and he straightened his stance slightly as he replied in a cooly calm, controlled manner, "I asked my question Hadara Sedai for the very simple reason that your prior instructions did not make it entirely clear where Ahlandra or I stood in relation to the watches being imposed on the Accepted.  It was simply a matter of clarification... not any sort of "admission of guilt" of any kind.

Please Hadara Sedai, I ask that you do not read more into my statement than is actually there.  I am neither "complicit" in anything nor have I committed any "wrong doing".  As for what I have been doing, it comes down to two essential duties.

First, I was instructed by an Aes Sedai to protect and defend the two Accepted, Ladies Thayna Dabei and Nerissa din Nelyn.  This I have done as you can see they are both alive and unharmed.  Second, as all who fight for the Light against the Dark One, I have faced and fought Shadowspawn wherever and whenever I could, as long as doing so did not unduly jeopardize my first, primary duty to protect the Accepted.

Other than that, I have dutifully and loyally followed the lead of the Accepted as I was instructed to do by the Aes Sedai.  But you speak of "having a hand" in something... as if I have anything to be ashamed of.  I tell you right now Hadara Sedai, I have done nothing but my duty as instructed.  Nothing more and nothing less."

Jennor paused for a moment to glance from Thayna to Nerissa and then back again to Hadara as he added in a determined tone, "As for continuing to keep the Accepted safe, that was and still is my first, primary duty assignment... I have not previously nor will I now fail to carry out that duty.  So yes, I shall continue to honorably fulfill my duty to the best of my abilities and will continue to do so until such time as the Aes Sedai who gave those original orders either cancels them or instructs me otherwise.

Does my answer meet with your satisfaction Hadara Sedai?"

Re: In the Lands of Manetheren
Nerissa wasn't too concerned about the decision to head to the White Tower. That was expected.

What wasn't clear was Hadara Sedai's comments concerning putting, and being put, on guard. It came off almost as a punishment to Jennor and Ahlandra, although it seemed as if Hadara Sedai was concerned that an attack might be made overnight against the two Accepted.

She decided to stick her neck out and get a clarification, "One question, Hadara Sedai. If you think Thayna and I are likely to be attacked from without, and need defending, would you object to my putting up a Ward Against Shadowspawn over the Inn?"

Re: In the Lands of Manetheren
The rest of the day and night passes with little disturbance. Watches stood and private talks in st least two of the rooms. Early the nest morning Betsy knocks  on the doors. Before the first light of dawn. Breakfast is ready when you  are she calls out.  The morning is cool and the fires on the rooms long since died down since being laid last night.

As the party reises and enters the common room.   Master Al Vere and so is Tam al Thor those who have not meet him see just a plainly dress man in farmer's attire and on of the large Two Rivers Crossbows slung on his back and a couple of quivers. .is there as well. "Morning to you all."  Brekdast is ready to serve and your horse are all saddled and redy to go as you requested.."

Master Al Vere paused for a bit but looked like he had more to say.  "Tam her went out ot look for Trollocs and found several signs of their coming and going. So You were right to warn us of them, even if we didn't exactly believe you."  We have been proven wrong in that.  HE also found a large grave and it wasn't hard to figure out that The Ogier had died since he did not return with you.  We also found the dead Trollocs there and the Fade as well.  Nasty business that.  So we thank you for removing that danger. Aes Sedai just like Moraine Sedai and Lan did when they were here last Beltine when the Trollocs hit us.  Aes Sedai do know how are young ones are doing that went with her. My daughter Egwene, Tam's son Rand, Perrin, Mat,  and Nyneve, our wisdom"

"Yes, I know about Egwene. She had been entered in the White Tower rolls as a Novice and Nyneve was entered as an Accepted. They have done well but have much to learn." As for the boys. I heard they traveled with Moraine Sedai. They should be safe with her I daresay."</Brown then Hadar then turned back to her food.

"Thank you Aes Sedai for that much.  Tam adn I will also make sure that The Ogier's grave sight gets marked.  It is the lest we can do for what you and he had done for our village. Tam here found all the bodies of the Trollocs in Parn's Gulch If that is okay by you Aes Sedai."

<Brown>"Yes that would be very nice thing to do.  I will leave you his full name do it can be properly marked.  He was also a Warder of the White Tower".

After breakfast the party mounted and left Emond's Field and within  a day the Two Rivers lands, the ancient land of Manetheren.

OOC post any last actions or conversation and then this thread will be closed and a new one started.

Re: In the Lands of Manetheren
Jennor was unsure if the relative lack of "fallout" from his remarks the previous day was a good sign or a bad one.  Jennor had noted Bren's look seemingly urging caution but it was too late for Jennor to have changed course.  Besides, Jennor was Ebou Dari and speaking his mind had always been his natural inclination.  All the more so when it seemed someone was trying to impugn his honor and his honesty.  Jennor figured he would speak the truth and let the Aes Sedai see for herself that he hid nothing.  If she continued to doubt his integrity, then perhaps Jennor ought to take that as a sign that his days with the White Tower might be coming to a close.

Jennor stood his guard watches dutifully as always.  He tried to get some conversation in with Ahlandra but often either Bren or the Brown Warder seemed to be lingering nearby which stymied conversation.  Jennor tried to engage Bren and the Brown Warder in conversation but neither man seemed overly inclined to engage in conversation.  Eventually Jennor just decided to keep to himself for the time being and observe.

Later, as Jennor rode alongside the others, he would occasionally glance back to remember the strange land of former Manetheren and to recall the odd but always amiable Ogier Warder whom they had left buried in Manetheren soil.  The loss of Alton would be felt keenly among the younger warders-in-training (and perhaps among the older Warder instructors as well) as Alton had often been held as an example that nothing was impossible and anyone who was dedicated enough could achieve the fancloth cloak of a Warder.  That thought led to others such as whether Jennor still intended to pursue the Warder's Cloak.  He wondered if his fellow warders-in-training would recognize the young man returning to them.  Then again, if Hadara Sedai's attitude was any gauge of their reception, Jennor's options might be far more restricted than he knew.  He might not be given the option to remain at the White Tower to train after all.  It would be a blow to his parents who had high hopes that their only son would distinguish himself in loyal service to the Aes Sedai, just as they had done.

Of course before one put on the Warder's Cloak, one had to be Bonded.  And that meant forming a relationship with an Aes Sedai close enough for both parties to be willing to share their life force with each other and be willing to give their lives for each other.  Did he know anyone that he felt that way about?  Maybe.  But was the feeling returned?  Uncertain.  And as Jennor thought along these lines, his gaze shifted over to Bren and Jennor began to sense the full weight of the price exacted from a man who chose to accept the burden of duty in becoming a Warder.  Was that a weight Jennor was prepared to accept?

Re: In the Lands of Manetheren
In leaving Emmons Field for the second time, under much different circumstances than the first, Nerissa felt an inevitability begin to creep up her spine.

She fully believed that she and Thayna had done well on their mission, and would be confirmed as Aes Sedai after the testing. Still there was an uncertainty, an unease, that they could have done better.

If some fanatic of the Red Ajah would accuse them of not doing something about Darek, the male Wilder, she would stand firm that his help had been necessary. If any Aes Sedai were to suggest that there were any issues with any of the others in that group, then let them make the accusation. The trollocs and the Fades were more of a danger.

If any Aes Sedai were to suggest that either Jennor or Ahlandra had not acted well or were in any way deficient in their part, she would deny it. Jennor, in particular, had always been thoughtful and helpful. She remembered her fright at the idea of riding a thousand miles on horseback, and his kind words of support. He was always seeing to her comfort, even though she didn't really need it. She was sure that the woman, Adana, had cast some sort of compulsion on him, and he was able to deal with it. Ahlandra had taken to helping Thayna, who needed more help. Domani women weren't raised to be tough, but Thayna had done everything without complaint.

She was confident because the alternative was failure and expulsion from the White Tower- or worse. Some candidates didn't survive the testing.

She would be attempting Composure more and more from now on.

Nerissa din Nelyn rolled 18 using 1d20+13. Composure: dealing with emotions.
