Re: 5.2 White Tower
On her next initiative, Nerissa again casts Harden Air to offer protection to Alecho, this time on his right flank and anchored against the front part of the carriage. The barrier is 10' high, 12.5' wide, total of 125 sq.ft.

So the attackers can only come against him one to three at a time, and he is protected from arrows/bolts on either side.

The weave uses a level 2 slot like the last one.

OOC: I made a boo boo and inadvertently edited the wrong posting. I'll try to restore #282, but the dialogue with Hadara Sedai is now gone...

Talis stumbles back from the crossbow hits. He then takes the time and patience to change up his weapons as Jennor has the melee side of the battle handled. Talis brings out his bow and knotches an arrow as he scans the area where the crossbow bolts came from for a target.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Talis now has the chance to focus the troop of riders close to the coach.  Strangely to others, but not to Talis and company, they can't seem to move to close in all the way / S few riders turn their horses to go around from the front two crossbowman are mounted one is on the ground aim. You are being targeted by the one on the ground with Jennor and Alecho each being targeted by the other two. Nerissa has created invisible walls to keep the riders at bay.

A voice calls out amongst the riders.  "What is a matter with you? Take that coach. Get those guardsmen. We want Lord Draconholt, not them."

One of the crossbowmen with Talis in his sights fires, another at on Jennor the arrow bounces off nothingness. one arrow skittered along the surface of that same nothingness.

There were varied and  mingled expletives from the attackers.. when the first voice called out again "Whatever trickery is this is he must be taken." Several follow the unseen barrier and began to round its edge.

Round 5

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Jennor's eyes narrowed as he said with contempt, "Whoever is so bold as to command other men to rush to their deaths... why don't YOU come forward and show them the way... to DIE!?

No wonder they aren't anxious to obey your commands, you remain safely in the background shouting orders while your men lie broken & bloody on the ground around us.

Or perhaps they now realize what we here already know... you're a damn fool and an idiot to boot!  You want Lord Draconholt?  Well then you're only several MILES away from grabbing him!  Just because a coach has a crest on it, only a moron automatically assumes that the lord is riding in that carriage.  You could, but WON'T, take this carriage and everyone with it... and you'd still be totally empty handed as far as Lord Draconholt is concerned!"

OOC: I assume the barrier prevents us from attacking outwards as well as them attacking inwards?

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Seeing that the bolts bounce off air, Talis smiles and takes carefull aim at the riders as they round the wall. Soon as he has perfect shot, he will take it. He is not aiming for the rider. He is aiming for the horse. Taking out the horse will bring the rider to his and Jennor's terms and hopefully cause enough of a train wreck that will cause all of them to tumble.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
The thin voice rose to and wordless scream of rage  as the last of the toughs  fell or fled as they could.  "THe Master will have you all." the voice scream  words garbled and fading with distance but clearly hear by Jennor and Talis, but it was clear enough.

The riders at the barrier turn away not sure what is holding them back. In doing so they foul up the riders behind them.  Those on the flanks move out along the barrier, though some have pulled back not liking what has happened, unsure of what to do.  One calls out This is Aes Sedai work. I am not fighting Aes Sedai.

"Shut up," a burly sergeant yells "Do what your were ordered to."

Those in the coach make listen rolls DC 21 to hear any part of that.

Nerissa din Nelyn rolled 18, Listen.

Nerissa observed a few of attackers moving along the two barriers towards the opening between them, probably to try to attack.

She smiled a grim smile and cast "Turn the Earth", recently learned from Hadara Sedai, just outside the opening between the barriers. As linked with Thayna, Nerissa cast a weave at about the same level that Hadara had cast when she cleared out the trench (see HS msg#878 in that posting).

Re: 5.2 White Tower
The ground suddenly erupted around a group of riders wheeled their mounts to try to get around the unseen barrier still other milled about uncertainly. Horses struggled in the heaving ground to keep their feet to  tried to run off with their riders.

Voices were raise up over the f turmoil of men and animals.

"This is Aes Sedai work."

"No one said nothing about any Aes Sedai in this."

"Shut Up, Do what you were  paid to."

I didn't get paid enough to face Aes Sedai and with that about half the group in ones, twos and threes peeled away and lit out. A couple of horse went down floundering with the upheaval of the ground. riders were thrown and invading troop was rapidly disintegrating. One one who had been yelling the orders  turned as well and lit out after that it was an complete withdrawal except for the few thrown or dismounted riders.. one lay at the point of Alecho's sword  that was pressed oh so firmly against the downed man's chest.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Talis smiled as he takes aim and then yells out, "My suggestion, give it up and you will live to tell the tail! But if you wish to continue this fiasco to its final stupidity, then by all means, lets dance!" He continues to cover them with his bow, really not in the mood to do much moving as he lets his partner, Jennor, insure that their flanks are covered. He waits to see what the men will do next.

Into this  moment a voice is raised  furled by the One Power  with Power that Fills the whole area and echos reverberate Hadara Sedai had stepped out of the carriage.

"Who dares to interfere in Aes Sedai business. Cease  and Desist, Lay down your arms and you will live NOW, I say."

Some did;  others on horses still, bolted as soon as they recovered their senses.

When Hadara Sedai decided to make her presence known and stepped out of the carriage, Nerissa looked over at Thayna and raised an eyebrow as if to say: this should be interesting.

However, just in case Hadara should come under some sort of attack, Nerissa looked out of the window for any suspicious activity.

Nerissa din Nelyn rolled 18 using 1d20+7. listen.
                          rolled 27 using 1d20+7. spot.

Jennor's expression was difficult to read as a cold, lethal stare emanated from his eyes.  His sword was held ready and the threat was obvious to any who looked around him and saw the carnage he had thus wrought with his blade.

Jennor said in a coolly confident tone, "You will find nothing here but your own deaths... and painful deaths at that.  A man may fight for pay... but no amount of coin is ever sufficient payment for throwing your lives away.  And all for nothing, for whatever you seek is not to be found in the carriage.

Leave now and pester us no further... only the Dark One will profit from your futile deaths, do you truly wish to join the legions of the Lord of the Grave?"

Talis remains calm as well, his arrow knotched and bow pointing at those attackers still around. He speaks in a soft soothing voice loud enough for them to hear, "Who hired you?"

"There was this man who recruited us for.  Wanted trained soldiers not riff-raff.  Tries us all out.  Me being without work, I jumped at the chance.  He had uniforms and everything. Call himself Captain Averi.  Didn't akd no other questioner.  Most of us were out of work soldiers. I have a family and needed the work.  Honestly that was all. Didn't like this job all that much, but Lords do strange things and Who an I to ask questions."

Jennor grimaced slightly as he looked at the man and said in a resigned tone, "So your job was to what... capture or kill Lord Draconholt, and kill everyone else in his entourage?  And do you have any idea where you were to take His Lordship after the ambush?

Where were you hired, in which town, how far from here?

Also did this Captain Averi wear any identifiable coat-of-arms?  If so, what was the sigil?"

OOC: Does the name Captain Averi ring any bells?

Hadara Sedai ateps up to the coach and prepares to enter. "Bind them all on the extra horses, They will be given over to the Queen's Justice once we reach Caemlyn, Which without any more interruptions should be later on this day."

Nerissa and Thayna you can see to out wounded  and any others that may not make it as far as  Caemlyn.

Once on the road again, it was a odd procession.  The coach and it guards who mostly guarded the bound prisoners.  Bren finally returned to the group shortly after they started off.  His tale was short and to the point==not a man of many words.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Upon hearing that Hadara Sedai wished all of the wounded attackers to be taken, alive, to Caemlyn, and to be made an example for the Queen's Justice, she nodded at Thayna and the two went about their business.

Those that were lightly wounded were bound and tied to their horses first. Those with greater wounds were healed first, then bound and tied.

Hadara Sedai would not find the two would-be Aes Sedai making any errors on the way to the White Tower.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Jennor gladly welcomed the healing of the Accepted as the arrows were removed from his left arm and side.  It had not been a bad battle from his perspective but he hoped to hone his defensive skills sufficiently to become an even more difficult target for the next time.

Jennor was disappointed that he was unable to get more information out of the bandits but he figured it would be awhile before they were tempted to take on an unknown opponent in the future.

Once his wounds were seen to, Jennor helped to prepare & secure the prisoners for travel.

After that was done, Jennor mounted his horse again and prepared to press onwards in escort of the carriage.  Jennor felt a slight sense of relief when Bren returned to the group, though he was curious where the older Warder had been during the ambush.  But Jennor knew better than to inquire, if Hadara Sedai was satisfied with Bren's brief report then that would have to do for Jennor as well.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Talis accepted the healings from the ladies. Once healed, he went about his duties to secure the prisoners before returning to his horse as well. He kept quiet for the most part as he took up his usual position. Those men moved quite fast. Too fast to be normal. He had the jump on them and should have had the ability to get clear of them before he was surrounded but they were able to surround him with extreme quickness. Their movements were unnatural. For now, he keeps his tongue and will address it to lady Hadara at a more proper time.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
The party completes their trip to Caemlyn with the small procession of prisoners temporarily adding to their numbers. At the city gates, Hadara had the prisoners turned over to the Queen's guards.

"We will be staying at the Queen's Blessing, if you need any more information,  today at least  and until tomorrow or whenever we catch a ship sailing to Tar Valon. Having given them her name the coach continues to a well set up Inn.

The  Queen's Blessing was a well maintained inn and seemed fairly busy even in this early afternoon hour.

The stablemen responded quickly to the emblazoned coach stopping in the inn's yard.

one boy opened the coach door and let down the steps.  Hadara Sedai lead the way out. "I will bespeak us accommodations here.  I often stay here while I am traveling."
