4.2 White Toweer
The days of travel are long but not hard.  Little is accomplished while riding and only at when they pause for the day does Hadara take thw Acccepted off to study and practice. Hadara had her Warder take them straight to the river and it was fortunate that they were able to catch a ship after about 2 days of waiting.  IT was small and the horses had to be guarted on deck leaving little room for the party to find place to sit and stay out of the way of the sailors and captain.  However, he was grateful for the fares that Hadara paid since winter travel on the river was seriously reduced.

Thayna and Nerissa were not exactly questioned outright but during their lesson Hadara was always able to glean more by her innocent comments and simple inquiries. The Accepted were not actually sure hoe much she had learned by this method but after a while they understood that she had.  Bren and the Accepted's Guard split the watches with the sailors especially when they tied up on shore at night. Hadara's Warder was always with here. one extra layer of protection.

Re: 4.2 White Tower
Jennor wondered how the Accepted were doing under the watchful gaze and instruction of their new tutor.  He was not sure what to make of Hadara Sedai, except that it seemed at least that she was not Black Ajah as he had originally feared.  If she were, then it is likely she would not be taking them all back to the White Tower, relatively safe & sound.  Of course not being Black Ajah did not mean that she was "safe", Jennor began to ponder what sort of report Hadara Sedai was going to make once the group returned to Tar Valon.

With the realization that his own days might be numbered at the White Tower, Jennor made an extra effort to study, practice and perfect his Sword Forms.  If he was not to become a Warder after all, then he would pursue his right to the Heron Mark of a Blademaster.  The was always work to be found for one talented with a blade.

As he stood watch with Ahlandra, in between sword practice, Jennor asked, "So Ahlandra, what do expect to do after we arrive in Tar Valon?  By all rights, you will have fulfilled your promise to watch over and guard the Accepted and return them safely to the White Tower.  I can see no reason why the Aes Sedai should not "discharge" you as it were or attempt to prevent you from moving on.  Do you plan to return to Saldaea right away?  Or perhaps seek to rejoin the forces of Marshal-General Davram Bashere?"

Bren kept to himself for the voyage. If he had any thought about the Accepted he had not shown it nor did he seem to notice they exist.

During the evening when the deck was clearer he practiced sword moves, alone or with Jennor if the latter wished it.

During the day he would patrol the deck his ever alert gray eyes scanning the shoreline looking for hidden ambushes.

"I'm not sure what I'm going to do Jennor, perhaps I shall spend some time in Tar Valon with you, I still have to find where the General has moved the army after all, and anyways, your all rubbish without me."  She smiled at him, practicing forms beside him, but the tremor of uncertainty was in her voice, she wanted to stay but her duty was to go once more.  And she didn't trust the Aes Sedai any more, not since this started.

Re: 4.2 White Tower
Jennor noted the smile (and he smiled back to acknowledge that he appreciated her contributions during their travels) but he also noted the tremor in her voice making him a bit concerned.

In an effort to be supportive, Jennor said in an encouraging tone, "Well as far as I'm concerned, you are certainly more than welcome to stick around Tar Valon as long as you like.  I wonder if the Aes Sedai would agree to putting you up in the White Tower itself?  It would seem the least they could do in return for your loyal service.  Though they might try to quarter you with the novices.  While I wouldn't object to it, I'm sure there would be all sorts of voices raised against allowing you to room with the warders-in-training... seeing as you would be the only woman among them.

Of course... for all I know, once Hadara Sedai has made her report, there may be plenty of voices raised against my staying among the warders-in-training.  If so, I suppose we could both depart Tar Valon and search for the General together.

After all... someone has to keep me out of trouble, right?"
Jennor winked at Ahlandra in a friendly manner and seemed in reasonably good spirits, but Ahlandra probably knew Jennor well enough by now to detect the note of uncertainty and concern underlying Jennor's good humor (the Ebou Dari had a knack for trying to cover up his true feelings of worry with a reasonably convincing veneer of joviality).

Nerissa conferred quietly with Thayna whenever she could. The two of them could bolster each other's spirits and give each other confidence.

Hadara Sedai might try to extract information but she could not twist their story and make it seem that they had not followed Murane Sedai's task to them.

She ship voyage was uncomfortable, with the horses and everyone crowded together. It seemed implicit that conversation with Jennor and Ahlandra was to be discouraged. That made her talks with Thayna all the more important.

However, the voyage would soon end and they would be in the White Tower again!

Re: 4.2 White Tower
Bren kept for himself not really fitting in with anyone. His connection to the Aes Sedai and her warder was slim at best and he was not in the fold of her secrets as the other might thing.

The Accepted and their guards clearly saw him as one of their "captors" and would suspect him if he came to them.

That left the horses and the ship crew, neither were inspiring company. Bren was used to the long hours alone but watching Jennor and Ahlandra he found himself missing something he had not felt in many years.

"Do not be daft Jennor." he barked in a voice clear as steel, one that Jennor may recall from his earlier encounter with the man. "You keep talking about being disposed from your training it is as if you want that to happen."

He level his gaze at the man some of the old fire in his eyes "I told you once before, there is no reason you should not finish the training unless it is your wish and there is no shame in that, there are many paths to choose not all fall under the shadow of the white tower." his tone is not angry, amused and a little sad.

"Although, you two have proven quite handy, I doubt the tower will let you ride away as swiftly as you think... no I suspect you'd be wadding in tower affairs way over your head..." he chuckles slightly leaning on the railing watching the passing water, for one instance he had the urge to jump and let it all go but he was stronger now and did not plan to die... yet.

Thayna overheard the conversation between Jennor and Ahlandra and Bren's comments as well. From behind Bren, though not to close, Thayna replies, "Yes I think you are very right, The Domani Accepted spoke clearly. "You have both performed your duties set you admirably in the most difficult situations.  The White Tower would be foolish to let such dedication slip away. Ne blame should be laid on you or anyone of our party. When and Sea Sedai speaks one is expected to do as she says. If any fault need to be fized on someone for our going on this mission let it fall where it is deserved."  Thayna said boldly.  Thayna refused to take the blame for their being sent on the mission by Murane Sedai. That she was eager to go was not important.

Re: 4.2 White Tower
Jennor had not realized that anyone was eavesdropping on his conversation with Ahlandra, much less TWO people.  Jennor winced (only visible to Ahlandra) before he turned around to face Bren and Thayna.

With an embarrassed sheepish smile Jennor said in a contrite tone, "Ahh... yeah... well I didn't actually mean that comment to be overheard." Damn it I was just trying to be nice to Ahlandra and keep her from feeling like the "odd woman out" amongst our "merry" band of White Tower devotees! "While I appreciate your vote of confidence Bren, I can't say I exactly share your optimism.  Hadara Sedai has given every indication that she seems to feel some sort of "blame" is to be leveled... and her manner seems to point to our group as being somehow "culpable".  Now I grant you, trying to read the true intentions of any woman... much less an Aes Sedai, is perhaps futile at best.  But I haven't exactly felt a sense of "warm welcome back" on our journey to Tar Valon.

Maybe I'm looking for worry where there is none to find... but then again that sort of wariness has helped to keep me and my charges alive for awhile now."

Jennor paused to glance in the general direction of Tar Valon as he added in a more contemplative tone, "As for my desire to complete my training, I haven't given up on it yet.  I am only a few steps away from perfecting my swordsmanship to a level that should be due true recognition.

I have a feeling the next stage in my training won't be martial or really anything that can be learned on the practice ground, rather it will be more a test of character & compatibility.  After all, the best trained warder-in-training will never graduate to a true Gaidin until he is deemed worthy for the Bond by an Aes Sedai."

Jennor looked back at Thayna and bowed his head as he added in a grateful tone, "I do thank you Lady Dabei for your continued support and praise.  I hope, not just for my sake or Ahlandra's sake but for the sakes of yourself and Lady din Nelyn, that you are correct and, if there is fault to be found, it shall be laid at those who issued the orders not those who dutifully obeyed them."

"I am sorry, I eavesdropped." Thayna said a bit chagrined and discommoding Jennor. I apologized for that. I want to know about things that may affect me before they do. Thayna glanced back at Hadara. I just do not know where Nerissa and I stand either. We....We are telling her the truth about what happened." unspoken was--not all the truths that they knew and kept to themselves. I think she is trying to figure out how two accepted were sent and why?

Neither Nerissa or she had mentioned the exact reason for them traveling to the Two Rivers area. How could they tell Hadara what they knew about any part of it if Hadara might be a Black Sister. Thayna's shoulders sagged a bit but then she straightened up. Whatever was going to happened to her she would face without a qualm.  IF she was thrown out of the tower, then she would.

"You will excuse me I really don't wish to intrude."  Thayna turned to leave/She had missed the easy camaraderie of the travels south.  she stopped and turned back. "I feel that she is keeping us apart, but I don't know why.  I wish I did."

Re: 4.2 White Tower
Jennor blushed as it seemed he'd put his foot in his mouth yet again (why was dealing with womenfolk so difficult and confusing).

Jennor moved forward, almost as if he was going to reach out to Thayna (but of course propriety would keep him from doing so) as he said in an apologetic tone, "Wait... wait Lady Dabei... Thayna, I didn't mean any offense by my earlier remark.  It was my fault for not being more discrete in modulating my volume.  If I'm not careful enough to speak quietly, I can hardly blame others for naturally overhearing what I say.

As for intruding, I do not view your presence as such.  I suppose I have just been so used to Hadara Sedai keeping you and Nerissa near her that I have gotten to thinking that it was just Ahlandra and I.  Please don't take offense Lady Dabei, you may remain and participate in our discussion... I certainly have no objection to it.

I suppose... I suppose I should view this as a good lesson that I need to mind my tongue better than I have been once we reach the White Tower.  In any case, it was not my intention to drive you away if you wish to stay and talk."

Re: 4.2 White Tower
The river trader put into Whitebridge about a day later and offloaded his cargo. The Captain comes over to Hadara Sedai. "This is as far as I go." I am wintering here except for some short trips. From here you take the road to Camelyn and you can catch another ship there to go upriver. I have had no problems with any your kind. Don't plan to either." he spats over the rail," Just be careful in Whitebridge,  Last time I was in port there were Whitecloaks, in town and on the road, and  more than usual. They cause problems if they can get away with it.  May the winds favor the direction you are going."  Ye might want ot find a groups to travel with or pick yourself up some extra swords.

Hadara nods and then passes the man a purse. You will find yourself more that well compensated. I appreciate the information as much as the trip."

hadara informs all of you of your departure from the ship.

The Horses are off loaded down the gang plank and then the passengers of which they were the only ones on this trip.

Hadara and her warder lead the way into Whitebridge.  The towering bridge that gave this place it name was  something form out of the age of Legends so it was said.  It arched high over the river to slender to stand but any closer examination would show that they was not signs of age on the almost pure white materials that it was made off even though its time creation was lost in history. She lead the way to an inn in the better part of the town. Dismounting Hadara gestures for the rest of you to do the same. "We will stay here for the night and prepare to travel tomorrow."

Rooms are ordered and so is lunch, Hadara gathers up the two accepted and heads up to their rooms. "You all have enough time to clean up and get back to the common room for lunch."

After his little blunder on the boat Bren kept for himself.

He guessed that feeling lonely was a good sign, feeling anything was good but he had to admit he lost his once great social skills.

Not that he shows any of his feeling to the others.

He stand somewhere between the Aes Sedai and the Accepted party, in truth he had liked them and could not understand Hadara Sedai behavior not that he tried to, he hardly understood woman or Aes Sedai for that matter just enough to survive by.

But still, Felisa would have handled this better... no do not go that path she was gone and there was nothing he could do about it.

It is not your fault

but is it? would these two fare better, would he stand aside.

He plans to have a private talk with the Aes Sedai once she is done with the Accepted.

Re: 4.2 White Tower
Jennor wasn't sure if he had simply made matter worse with both the older Warder Bren and with the Accepted Thayna.  It seemed that Jennor's usual luck with people wasn't panning out so well.  Things had certainly been more relaxed and free flowing before Hadara Sedai had joined the group.  Then again, that was probably as much an effect of once more being under the watchful gaze of the White Tower (with all its rules and traditions) than anything specific about this particular Aes Sedai.

Or... it might be because Jennor was still not sure how Hadara Sedai came to be out in the Two Rivers area or why she had been there.  Always in the back of Jennor's mind was the ominous possibility that Hadara Sedai might one of the Black Ajah their group had been sent to investigate (and deal with if possible).  It was not a possibility that Jennor liked to dwell upon because the implications were truly unpleasant should his worst fears be realized.

As for Bren, despite the embarrassment of having his injudicious comments to Ahlandra overheard, Jennor had noticed a bit of the "old Bren" showing through on the boat.  But then after the "incident" the older Warder began keeping his distance again, seeming to withdraw back on himself again like the "new Bren".  Jennor felt like kicking himself for not handling that situation better.  If anything, Jennor wanted to see more of the "old Bren", the man and the Warder whom Jennor had admired so much when he was younger.  But Jennor resigned himself to the fact that he simply needed to work on his social skills more.  Perhaps all that time devoted to perfecting his swordsmanship had robbed him of opportunities to develop other life skills that could be just as important (if not more so at times).

At the word that Whitecloaks might be about, Jennor checked that he wasn't displaying anything overtly connected to the White Tower.  It wasn't that Jennor was afraid of engaging the Whitecloaks but rather that he was sure Hadara Sedai would not be pleased if their progress towards Tar Valon was unduly delayed while Jennor taught the uppity irrational prejudiced Whitecloaks the "error in their ways".  Of course it would provide him with ample opportunity to get some "live practice" in with his sword forms... but Jennor knew his duty and quickly put that idle thought to the back of his mind where it belonged.

Jennor followed Hadara Sedai's direction, dismounting and seeing to it that his horse and the horses of the Accepted were properly squared away before seeking wash water and soap to clean up from the hard travel.

Lunch ought to be interesting.

Nerissa had become aware that there was some sort of new tension in the conversation among the group. Rather than talk, however, Nerissa had been mentally preparing herself for the Aes Sedai's continued questioning. By doing so, she had overheard a conversation with the ship captain. Whitecloaks!

Hadara Sedai let Thayna and herself wash up in their rooms at the inn. After their first leg of the trip to the White Tower ended in Whitebridge, next would be overland by horseback. Nerissa was not looking forward to this.

In rearranging her personal effects preparing for horseback, Nerissa took her mother's brooch out of concealment and looked at it. What would her mother think of her, an Accepted in the White Tower? Would she be disappointed or pleased? She spent some time in prayer and contemplation, focusing her thoughts, and thinking of her family... that she might never see again.

Feeling cleaner and more at peace with herself, she descended and rejoined the others for a meal.

Re: 4.2 White Tower
After the long days of travel, it was good to feel refreshed again and to don a clean outfit.  Jennor still wore his family blade at his side, but every day it began to seem more and more a part of him, an extension of his body & being rather than just another weapon or tool of death.  Certainly the young man wore his sword with increasing ease, as if a warrior twice his age, and it would not be long before the displayed heron-mark of the sword truly suited Jennor despite his youth.

As Jennor approached the dining area, he noticed that one of the Accepted, Nerissa, had arrived ahead of him.  Jennor looked around for Hadara Sedai or her Warder but did not immediately spot either of them  With a friendly smile on his face, Jennor bowed his head to Nerissa and said in a pleasant tone, "You look well Lady din Nelyn, far more peaceful and relaxed than I think I could manage at the moment.

Hard to believe we've come so far and yet still have so far to go.  And I can't help but feel like we're merely coming around full circle, eventually ending up where this whole journey originally began for us.  But I suppose that's true ultimately for most voyages and adventures... in the end, no matter how far away one has gone, one finally has to return home."

Thayna moved over to over to where Jennor, Ahlandra and Bren had gathered.  Perhaps if they just sat down their they could escape Hadara's on so innocent question.  Sitting down she waited for the serving girl to come so she could order.

"Have any of you ordered food yet?" I am starving for fresh fruit and vegetables. or even a nice vegetable or fruit pie or tart. And something other than water." she adds as the variety of what might be available slipped across her thoughts.  The food an the ship had not been bad but it wasn't very good wither.  Things that kept well in storage made up the bulk of it.  Dried fruit, Dried meat and fish made up most of what was offered, along with root vegetables and all of them had to be boiled to be eatable unless it was fish caught in the river itself.

Jennor noticed Thayna arriving and, when she moved to sit down, Jennor moved to hold her chair for her.  He hoped she had forgiven his less than diplomatic comments on the boat and he hoped by being mannerly, she would take it as a sort of peace offering.  Having aided Thayna to be seated, Jennor moved to the next chair and held it out for Nerissa as he said, "Won't you be seated as well Nerissa?"  Jennor then looked back at Thayna and added, "I don't know about the others, but I haven't ordered yet.  I will admit that some fresh food will make a nice change from the preserved rations we've been dining on."

Jennor smiled at Nerissa as she sat down.  Jennor then took his own seat across from the two Accepted.  Jennor rolled his eyes slightly and shrugged in uncertainly when Thayna mentioned being glad that the Whitecloaks were in town.  The cost of being free from wearing Accepted robes seemed rather high should the Whitecloaks decide to make trouble.

As he was trained, Jennor rose from his seat when Hadara Sedai approached the table and would sit down again only after Hadara had taken her seat.

Jennor knew the Accepted would be disappointed about the restriction but he felt that it might be the sensible approaching given the presence of the Whitecloaks.  Jennor glanced at Hadara and asked quietly, "How... how "nosey" do you want us to be?  I would assume we should temper our inquisitiveness with a fair amount of caution... to avoid provoking any sort of "incident".

I'm not that familiar with these lands, are we still in Andor or have we moved into another nation?  Hadara Se... Mistress Hadara, do you know the local "standing" or status enjoyed by the Children of the Light in this area?"

Nerissa was not glad about anything concerning the Whitecloaks. When Hadara Sedai said that the Accepted would stay inside, she decided that it was just as well. She, Nerissa, might do something that she would regret. The Whitecloaks were just a small step above trollocs and Fades.

When Thayna spoke up and Hadara Sedai seemed to overhear, Nerissa thought to take some of the blame upon herself, "It is probably better to meet and decide what the Whitecloaks are up to before they come here. That might be awkward for us, should they come sniffing looking for trouble."

Jennor raised and eyebrow at Bren's sudden determination to leave at that very moment.  Jennor glanced over at Thayna, as she requested that their departure to seek out the Whitecloaks wait at least until lunch was over.  Perhaps Bren could get by without eating or resting, maybe that was a benefit of the Warder's Bond, but neither Jennor not Ahlandra were bonded.

Jennor looked over at Hadara Sedai and asked, "Did you mean for us to head out right now?  Or may we have lunch first?"

Jennor looked from the Brown Warder to Bren to Ahlandra before he added, "In any case, perhaps it might be wise not to go off all as one group?  Granted we can back each other up that way, but we may also draw more attention to ourselves as a group of four rather than splitting up.  But I'll defer to others on this point."

Re: 4.2 White Tower
Thayna threw Nerissa and quick look realizing what she was trying to do for her.   However Hadara's Sedai's look after sending the others on made her feel like a child who was going to be punished later.  What surprised Thayna ws the sense of rebellion in that arose.  So much of that attitude had been quelled in her during her Novice years and here time as Accepted. Her eyes flashed with anger at Hadara's words though she schooled her face to impassivity. Thayna lifted her eyes and gazed back directly into Hadara's eyes.  "As you say Hadara Sedai." Not all the fire was not out of Thayna's eyes though and Thayna did not care if it was noticed, right now.

Jennor sighed inwardly but kept a neutral expression on his face as he simply bowed his head and said, "Very well, as your wish."  Jennor rose from the table, only sparing a moment to catch the eyes of both Thayna and Nerissa, trying to express his silent gratitude for their intercession on his behalf before Jennor moved away from the table.

And I suppose it won't be regarded as "suspicious" if three recently arrived travelers suddenly head back out of the Inn to "look around"?  One has to admit that Bren, Ahlandra and I make for an odd trio... though at least with Ahlandra around, we may not be immediately taken for Warders.

As Jennor moved to follow Bren, he paused momentarily to see if Ahlandra was coming as well.

Jennor pursed his lips in thought as he raised an eyebrow and glanced hesitantly over at Ahlandra before he said in a soft wary tone, "As a matter of fact, I was already considering that possible approach or ruse... however I had intended to be a bit more discrete in making the suggestion privately to Ahlandra to see if she was agreeable to the idea before pursuing that course of action and adopting that particular role."

Jennor looked back to Ahlandra and said in a cautious tone, "Seeing as Bren has already raised the issue in the open, would you be agreeable to such a plan Ahlandra?

I'll understand if you feel uncomfortable with the idea and want to adopt some alternative approach."

Jennor took a step between Bren and Ahlandra as he cleared his throat and said in a calming tone, "Ok... I think you mentioned something about heading off on your own to "gamble & socialize", right Bren?  Well perhaps that's what you ought to do while Ahlandra and I head off in the opposite direction.

As for "respect", at this point everyone in our little group deserves their fair share.  What's more, none of us require others to inform us as to what our duties are.  We all know quite well what's at stake and what is required of us."

Jennor looked Bren in the eye and added in a polite tone, "We'll see you soon, good luck with your drunken dicers."

Jennor lightly slipped his arm around Ahlandra and gently urged her in the opposite direction away from Bren as he said softly, "Best to just drop it for now... with some people, it is often futile to argue.  I don't know what his problem is, but that's not the Bren I knew many years ago... something is eating him from the inside and its best to leave him be to "stew" in private.

But please do understand Ahlandra that I know of your efforts, above & beyond, and I appreciate and respect your efforts on our behalf."

"Do you really want to know about Bren and his Aes Sedai>" Hadara's voice comes as she turns her attention back to the Accepted.  He is a Warder, or rather was a Warder. His Aes Sedai died in his arms as he tried to run miles carrying her to get her help. It was fortunate that he found a Yellow sister.  Not that she could heal death that already had claimed Felicia Sedai. but she was in time to save him from going mad.  He has been brought back from the brink, but not all the way back.  He is not that man he was. Whether he will ever bee remains to e seen.  The yellows said that it was time for him to get out to see just how far he has come and if any improvement in his state could or would happen." Hadara fineshed up

Hadara regarded each of the Accepted.  "On another note, I know there are things you are not telling me.  It is as clear as it can be.  THE why of It I don't know.  Perhaps to your relief anI am not going to ask you what that is. That it is important to you, at least, that you keep that secret. That is clearly apparent. And so some reason you seem to not be able to trust me."

Hadara holds up her hand, "No don't deny it." I am old and have been around for a long time.  You think it is important to keep this secret.  However, at some point you will need to trust someone with this.  It would be unfortunate to have important information lost.  Too much of history and important information has been lost already some many holes  and lost knowledge.  Is there anyone you would trust with your information?"

"However, at some point you will need to trust someone with this...  Is there anyone you would trust with your information?"

Nerissa listens to what Hadara Sedai says and wonders, Can she read our minds? It is not our secret, but Murane Sedai's! Would Murane Sedai release us to reveal any of our information? But what if that would reveal Murane Sedai's secret, and Hadara Sedai is Black Ajah?

At the end of Hadara's speech, Nerissa decides that sooner or later all of the group is going to have to decide whether to trust Hadara Sedai... or not.

She has been observing Hadara Sedai for some time now. If Thayna and I are worthy of becoming Aes Sedai, we are going to have to be able to take responsibility, not only for ourselves, but for our friends and neighbors... even, ultimately, for the fate of the world!

She concentrates and then tries to make a decision... Nerissa din Nelyn rolled 20 using 1d20+13. Sense Motive: Hadara's trustworthiness.

Thayna listened to Hadara. The first part surprised her==about Bren.  A warder who had lost his Aes Sedai usually died in the  attempt to avenger her, but his had died in his arms==How sad.   The second part of what she had to say had Thayna wondering. Was she just an astute observer wise in the ways of others or was she trying to trick them into telling her what they had not.

The problem was which was she? Perhaps she was both both and even something more perhaps, like BLACK AJAH. Thayna could not help herself.  She looked at Nerissa.  What did he friend think about what Hadara had said. the question on her face were clear.

"Will you excuse us for the moment Hadara Sedai?  Nerissa and I have something to discuss." Thayna stood and walked away in the assumption that Hadara Sedai would let them leave the table.  It was a bold move on her part but she would not reveal a thing without consulting Nerissa first.

Then he is out by the door heading into the night.

Outside Bren take the long walk of the street getting the feel of Whitebridge. It has been ten or so years since last he was here and even then it was in passing.

Once he feels secure enough in what he knows of the streets he will begin his rounds of visiting the different inns playing dice and causally marking any rumors he would pick up.

Bren while Bren renews his acquaintance with Whitebridge waling around checking out the taverns and inns and see which one cater to caravans and their guards, or those who cater to local people or richer folk that travel this way from the north or south. Several he remembers and they have not changed their patronage.  Now that he has a good idea then she can choose one to start with.

There are a few Whitecloaks about usually in twos and threes, never alone.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ahlandra and Jennor.

Not being as familiar with the town of WHitebridge, They must search for places where they might gather information.  They see Whitecloaks about again in twos and threes and never alone.  The Whitecloaks seem somewhat attentive to what is going on about them but not overly. The pass some taverns that seem to cater to local folks and rich inn with a large  stable yard. A fancy  coach is parked off to the side in the courtyard and a man is cleaning it up.

Whitebridge is part of Andor.

Nerissa sighs and shakes her head with worry. "Also, I am convinced that woman back in Maradon, Adana, used Compulsion against Jennor and myself. Was she the channeler who had Ahlandra fighting the others in the tent? Or was all of that my imagination?

If the Black Ajah has extended its tendrils into Maradon, then is it not likely that it is in the White Tower as well? Murane Sedai could be dead already!

If we truly are Aes Sedai material, we will have to face up to the tough decisions. If we do not warn Hadara Sedai about the Black Ajah, we could be endangering her life, as well as her Warder's and Bren's.

And, if time really is of the essence, we can share the Gateway weave with her. We can be in the White Tower in no time!

So, do we tell her or not?

If she is Black Ajah, we could have a fight here and now. Or she could keep it a secret to take us unawares at her leisure later."

Nerissa shakes her head again. "I would rather warn her so that she could be prepared, or risk a fight with her now. The alternative is that we say nothing, we risk being taken unawares when we get back to the White Tower anyway, whether we warn her or not and whether she is Black Ajah or not!

I say we have it out with her now, before the men return! Her Warder and Bren are older and likely more skilled than Jennor and Ahlandra.

I say we confront her without the One Power. Can you fight hand-to-hand? It would be we two against her.

We tell her what we think, try our best to judge her reaction, and, if she betrays herself, we fight her and kill her."

Bren heads toward the seedier part of Whitebridge, trying to gleam some information from the low life and those living in the fringes of society. Once, his family hired thief catcher told him that this was the best way to know what goes on a city or town and Whitebridge seem big enough to have such thriving underground community.

He will play dice, spend his copper and some silver, so he will not be mistaken for a rich prey, lose more then win and sniff the mood and rumors. His goal to discover how many Whitecloaks are here and about and any other rumors of interest.

The wandering couple continues to move about the town, seeming absorbed more with themselves than their surroundings but that was not true.  Both kept their ears open and eyes alert for chanced to gain information.  Pretty soon they realized that being  always on the move was not keeping them in one place long enough to listen fully to what was being said.  It made it to obvious is they suddenly slowed down to listen to someone talking if they thought it was interesting. They made the decision to go somewhere where people were and then sit down and do some listening.

Whitecloaks are in the city more than they should be, Whitecloaks have been see to the south and to the east along the road to Camelyn as well.

There are people who are for the presence  saying they are helping to keep the peace and people who  are against it saying they stir up trouble.

The Queen needs to take care of the Whitecloaks and the problems  The Queen needs to  allow the Whitecloaks to help her.

Hopes that winter will not last too long this year. Fears that it will and the food situation will get worse.

There hasn't been much two river tabac available this past year.  Hopes are they will have a good crop this coming year.

Crops have been bad.  Food is in short supply. Food costs too much when it can be found.

In fact even if she tells him to go to rest he will search for Jennor and Ahlandra and suggest they keep tabs on the hallway of the rooms of the sister and two Accepted.

Once Ahlandra was ready to return, Jennor "escorted" his "date" back to the Inn to report to Hadara Sedai.  He reported back on what they had heard, giving Ahlandra a chance to speak as well.  He noted Bren's suggestions and asked if Bren intended to maintain a formal watch schedule since it was ill advised for all three of them to remain awake the whole night.

At the inn Hadara had gathered in the Accepted for lessons. "No time to slack off.  You have been long form your studies.  You must practice the test sequence until you can do it perfectly. Each of you do it one at a time the other and I will try to distract you from completing it."  Hadara had them practicing all afternoon up in her room giving them only a short time to clean up before dinner.

"That depends on the command of Hadara Sedai." Bren answer in a serious voice yet a glint of the old Bren is in his eyes.

"If she command us to rest, then there will be no official formal watch, however, it is cold and some of us may not feel up for resting and take for walking about. One at a time I am sure so we won't make too much noise and disturb the sister sleep."

He looks at the Jennor and Ahlandra "The most important thing in being a Warder is knowing how to aid a strong willed woman whom although most of the time know more then you seem to have an uncanny knack of ignoring danger to herself..." his voice is tinged with sorrow and pain.

Nerissa was bored with some of the "lessons", but wanted to be an Aes Sedai so badly that she was willing to perform the practice. Besides, she knew that the tests for becoming an Aes Sesai involved a certain amount of distraction by other Aes Sedai, so felt that the practice would hold her in good stead.

Jennor shrugged as he said, "Sounds like a lot of smoke and mirrors to get around an order to sleep.  Perhaps it might be necessary to "justify" a watch rotation when Hadara Sedai is around and listening, but this is just us three here.  Between you, Ahlandra and I, we don't really need to beat about the bush do we?  So which shift do you want?

Also have you coordinated with Hadara Sedai's Warder?  Because I'm sure he's going to be "on guard" in one way or another, especially with Whitecloaks in town."

If it makes it any easier for you... I think I can guess what it is.  I have noticed that for a Warder... nowadays you seem to walk alone."

It has to be... otherwise Hadara Sedai wouldn't put up with his sullen moodiness.  He keeps talking about what it takes to be a Warder and then he keeps getting moody about it, talking about failures and the like.

If he's bonded, then where is his Aes Sedai right now?

But then again... from the dark tales I've heard about such cases... maybe I really don't want to know?

Then Bren compose himself gripping the younger man shoulder in a strong grip "Something are better left unsaid young Elan." he smiles faintly "Some wounds are harder to heal then others even with the one power and some burdens can never be lifted. For what is worth I thank you for your ..."

The older warder shakes his head "I am trying to protect you as much as I can Jennor, ready you if you choose this path. I hope you understand this even if I seem to you harsh and what was the word... sullen at times."

He smiles weakly the moment of kinship gone "Well, you have a long night as do I, hop to it young Elan we shan't keep our charges waiting for us for dinner."

Then he strides back towards the common room and dinner.

Jennor shrugged his shoulders as he nodded his head and said, "Fair enough Bren, I just wanted you to know that should you choose to speak of what bothers you... well... I'm willing to listen.  I imagine that there might be things that would be easier to discuss with one who is perhaps neither an Aes Sedai nor a bonded Warder, who would no doubt feel duty bound to report back to his bonded Aes Sedai.

I appreciate your attempt to prepare me for what to expect, but I also imagine that there are some things that even the best training cannot prepare one for.

But you're right, we shouldn't keep the ladies waiting... I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate such delays."

Jennor glanced back at Ahlandra and motioned for her to join Bren and him before moving on to the dining room.

At least she did not try her own pet theory on how to rescue a warder, he had been subjected to several such treatments in the last four years. None seem to accept the fact that like a beheaded fade he was already dead but still to stubborn to admit it.

Instead he focus his attention on the Aes Sedai waiting for her command.

Jennor grinned slightly as he silently rolled his eyes at the "youngster" remark.  If the man could make jokes or at least show a bit of lightheartedness, then he wasn't completely lost from the land of the living.

Jennor escorted Ahlandra to the table and held her chair for her before he took his own seat.

Jennor noticed out of the corner of his eye the interplay between Thayna and Bren.  He wondered if the others had come to the same conclusion he had regarding Bren's condition.  He also vaguely recalled some of the tales of proposed "home remedies" for "curing" a Warder who had lost his bonded Aes Sedai... some of the more "lively" treatments would have made even a Saldaean sa'sara dancer blush.

Jennor nodded his head in agreement as he said, "Yeah there are mixed feelings about the presence of certain individuals in town, but that just raises the overall atmosphere of tension.  I did get the impression our visitors are here with some kind of purpose, as if they are looking specifically for someone... rather than the usual "general persecution" as it were.  But maybe I'm reading too much into local gossip and rumor?"

Re: 4.2 White Tower
Jennor glanced at Bren as he was volunteered for the coach search and he merely nodded his head silently in agreement.

Jennor wasn't sure how much longer he would need to put with being called "young".  Clearly Bren was unfamiliar with Ebou Dari customs where generally a boy was considered a man by they time he: 1) turned 16, 2) fought his 10th duel, or 3) killed his 3rd man... often the three conditions occurred around the same time.  As for Jennor, he had surpassed each of those milestones (and then some) for quite awhile ago.

But now was not the time to make an issue of it.  However, once Jennor had rightfully earned the honor to openly wear his Heron-marked sword as a true Blademaster, then it might be time to revisit this issue of "age".

Instead, Jennor turned towards Hadara and said, "Mistress Hadara, you mentioned our being clothed as "guardsmen" to aid in the general public impression you wish to convey.  Do you possess those uniforms at present?  I ask because I think it might be wise if Bren and I were "properly attired" before heading out to secure the use of a coach."

But the home we stopped off at on our journey to the Two Rivers would be a fairly long distance from this town.  Does Lord Draconholt have multiple homes spread so far apart?

As for this other home, we didn't so much visit it as seek shelter.  We came under attack by a massive flock of hostile raven, no doubt unnaturally motivated to violence by the Dark One's will.  We sought shelter in the home as well as to provide protection to those living there by repelling the ravens, whittling down their number.  While Ladies Nerissa and Thayna handled significant numbers together with their combined efforts, I remember facing multiple opponents in the kitchen as they attempted to enter through the chimney.

But that was awhile ago... well before we met up with you Mistress Hadara."

Thayna wonder if Nerissa felt the same way. She then give Nerissa a slight smile instead of the frown.  They would do what they had to until they were made Aes Sedai hopefully that would be soon.

They had learned so much on this mission.  They were stronger, knew many new weaves that Melina had taught them and how to use them in creative ways. Ways that the Aes Sedai had never taught them about. they had use the One Power as a weapon as a soldier uses his sword or spear.  She knew the Oath that they would have to swear on the Oath rod when they became Aes Sedai but we was had the beginning of doubt about that oath it limited an Aes Sedai in many ways. As an Accepted she had done things with the one Power that they would not be able to do once they sword the Oaths.

Nerissa saw the frown on Thayna's face and wondered at its cause. Nothing had happened, yet, from Hadara Sedai's seeming inquiries and threats. It was a time for reflection and contemplation, quite the opposite of the time so recently in which they were fighting trollocs and worse.

She saw a smile replace the frown and knew that Thayna was thinking about their recent adventures as well. There was much that they needed to talk about. Both before they were offered, or denied, the opportunity to take the tests to become Aes Sedai, and afterwards... assuming that both were successful!

Nerissa was feeling a little guilty as well. Melina and Azara had shared knowledge of certain Weaves with Thayna and herself. But Nerissa had learned and developed some Weaves herself that she never had had the opportunity to teach the others. Some were pretty commonplace... but others might be powerful, with the person wielding them.

There were some Whitecloaks out an about in pairs or threes. Eyes noticed them, two well built me armored with swords and daggers, some just noticing them, others moving back into shadows deciding they were not for the taking still others avoiding them by stepping away from where they moved not wanting any problems imagined or not. Thayna goes upstairs but just sits on the bed waiting for hopefully for Nerissa. She needed to talk to someone that she trusted and Nerissa was that person. While she sat her hands idly adjusted the folds of the gown that she had gotten from Azara. It was the nicest dress she had has since going to the White Tower.  It was not so much the dress but things she had learned and done since then that had changed who she was and perhaps even what she had wanted. But did it really.  She just didn't know how fundamentally she had changed.  Perhaps it was just the things that they had done that seemed different. Had ti truly changed her from wanting to be Aes Sedai and all that meant.  Her biggest problem that she saw was that restriction of fighting for anything more than defense or Shadowspawn.  She had realized that she felt good about fighting the Darkfriends and shadowspawn with a eagerness that would be frowned on in the White Tower. What could she do? What could she do?  IF she could do anything would she?

" I had looked forward to taking the Oaths but now......."

Nerissa sighed. She had wanted to become an Aes Sedai for years now, almost as soon as she had heard of their existence! It had seemed to her to be the only way for her to become trained in the use of her gift, to learn more from trained teachers rather than have to learn by herself, by trial-and-error.

In addition, becoming an Aes Sedai had offered her the chance to become a part of something, to a society to which she could feel that she was a part of. She did not feel a part of the Atha'an Miere culture, and had not since the death of her parents almost fifteen years before. She had felt, and continued to feel, rejected by the Atha'an Miere and an outcast from her own family.

Nerissa was tired of feeling lonely at odd hours and times. She wanted to be a part of something.

She wished that she had learned to cast Circle of Silence so that Hadara Sedai could not overhear. So she cast a counterspell for Eavesdrop to cover herself and Thayna.

"I too have had second thoughts and know how you feel." In a soft voice she related to Thayna the shipboard accident aboard the ship Gray Grouper in which both of her parents had been killed, her seasickness, the rejection that she had felt since that time from her own clan, Asfaring, and the lonely years that she had spent with only the elderly widow, Agatha din Falklyn Clear Gaze, and the Amayar, Gersafalla, who had taught her secrets of porcelain jewelry.

"Becoming an Aes Sedai had seemed to offer me a place, something that I had lost almost fifteen years ago, to which I could thereafter become a part. It offered a family as well as a society.

In addition, we can continue to learn new Weaves from others, as well as become teachers ourselves of new girls who come to the White Tower in the future.

The Oaths seem to be a part of the price to pay, seem limiting on the one hand, but then Aes Sedai are also known for using precise language to define the limits of the meaning of those words. It wouldn't surprise me that Aes Sedai have learned to walk the edges of those Oaths, and that we can learn how as well.

I agree that the freedom to be a Wilder is seductive, to be accountable only to oneself and to a small number of close friends. However, there is no support network at all, if times get tough. If you recall, Melina wanted to become a Wise One of the Aiel. So she wanted to become a part of a larger Society herself. Perhaps Azara will end up following that path herself.

Darek, being male, doesn't have these options. Male Channelers have had sad prospects since saidin became tainted. We, being female, are lucky that we do have options.

On balance, I believe becoming an Aes Sedai is best for me. In particular, there is the Great Library that I can go to and use for my porcelain research ... and a couple of other things that we can speak about in good time.

I agree that some of the Aes Sedai seem to be overbearing bitches and might be a good deal worse when we get to know them better. But, unless we get stuck in an administrative position in the bureaucracy, we can go about our business- if we can give a good rationale. At least that is how it has seemed to me.

And, believe me, that has been a major concern of mine, so I have been examining it closely!

So, how can I help you to calm your fears or to make your decision?"

Finishing his meal Bren give Hadara Sedai a quick bow and leave following Jennor.

They walk quickly at a brisk pace rying to locate the carriage.

If Bren took notice of the footpads who quickly darted out of his way he made no mention of it to his younger companion.

At the courtyard Bren nods with satisfaction at the carriage.

He move to door of the establishment and enter looking inside for men with the the emblem of the coat of arms on the carriage.

Re: 4.2 White Tower
The inn is fairly busy with travelers. Bren's eyes swept the room for the likely owner of the finely equipped coach out in the courtyard of the inn.  It was a a well appointed inn and the quality of hits patrons were well above average, rich merchants, well to do locals, and travelers with plenty of coin. There are several groups of  patrons that might possibly be the owners of the coach. There are a few obvious games of chance going on, at least a table of cards and one of dice. off towards the corners of the room.

The Innkeep arrives quickly, "Welcome, Welcome to the Gilded Stag, sirs. How may I help you?"

You don't know if he is  truly welcoming you or wondering if you have the coin to pay for the prices of his establishment.  Perhaps is is also worried about the swrods that you both carry openly. It is hard to say by his manners at this moment.

The are several possibilities to Bren way of thinking. A well dressed couple over in an alcove, a man of middle years with deep golden hair in well cut coat of deep green with trimming of embroidery. Only Lightly ornamented but well tailored nothing to really reveal his station in like. The man sat near the hearth his boot legs stretched out before him. Bren's attention was caught by a flash of metal on his boots. More than anything else he wore  was a indication of custom made they had silver heels protectors and silver tips. The man himself was not old nor young. Of middle years he was a well-built man with a look of one who was more active than inactive. He sat with a tankards in his hand deep in thought a contemplative look on his face.

Nerissa had been thinking about these ideas ever since she had heard of the White Tower and had thought about becoming an Aes Sedai. "The last isn't difficult. If there were no strictures for the Sisters on their wielding saidar then I would think that they would quickly acquire a self-importance and arrogance quite beyond their abilities of self-control. They all would know best and would be fighting among themselves for dominance. The White Tower would fall from within. The collateral damage among the general populace would be fearful.

The Oaths require that the Aes Sedai focus their intent and think of their outcomes beforehand. That is why Aes Sedai are known for their use of language and its meaning.

The Oaths do not necessarily limit one's ability, but rather limit one's intent. If the Aes Sedai has the ability, she can becomes as powerful as she is able to focus these intentions within the strictures of the Oaths."

Trying not to be overheard, Nerissa replies, "If Murane Sedai is, or was, able to confirm the existence of our mission, then all will be well. There may be some cautionary bluff about our consorting with Wilders; but, if we agree to some platitudes on how we behave in the future, most all will blow over.

If Murane Sedai is still in good favor in the White Tower, even if she can not, or can no longer, confirm our mission, then all may still not be lost. We may have to tell our tale again, possibly while under Compulsion, or the like . We should simply tell the truth... but no more than that. We should answer like the Aes Sedai that we hope to become, by using the words and language in the way that they would!

If Murane Sedai is out of favor, we are in trouble. We still may prevail, but it will be out of our control. If we are needed, we will be ok in the end... after a lot of grief.  If we are not needed, then we may be on our own... or worse. We may have to escape; and, if we survive, become Wilders like our former associates.

Does that make sense? If we have to escape, do you want to join up with me... if we can?"

Jennor rises, washes and dons a fresh set of clothing before arming himself and heading out to knock on the doors of the Accepteds' rooms, "Good morning ladies, time to rise & shine.  Alecho mentioned that breakfast is waiting for us downstairs."

I doubt I'm going to have time for my usual early morning sword form practice before we have to get going.  Still, I think I am finally becoming one with several of the more complex forms.  I feel in my bones that it will not be long now before I have truly earned the right to the heron mark displayed on my Elan family sword.

Meanwhile as the others prepare for their day, Talis stands waiting patiently for them downstairs. His bow is strapped to his quiver on his back, his arms crossed, he waits. His sapphire blue eyes scan the common area, mainly out of habit as a wolf would scan his territory for prey. His long light brown hair falls loosely upon his shoulders and caressing his face as he waits.

Bren wakes early washes and eat something light. He wonder how causal those actions seem right now with only half a year ago he had to force himself to do either.

He stands at the center of the room forming the flame in the void feeding all of his emotions and pains into the flame. This was the only place he felt safe from his own demons.

Things have changed for him, now with the two Accepted under his protection. They were so young, innocent that it awoke things in him he thought are long dead.

He dressed in the uniform of Lord Draconholt, folding his regular cloths to his pack where his warder cloak rested folded and tucked away.

Then he head out to the main dinning hall waiting for the others to come.

Ahlandra night had not passed easily She came down early as well and goes to Jennor. I will see you all to Caemlyn but then I have things to do. Personal matters that cannot be put off any longer.  I will Tell Hadara Sedai of my decisions.  once I have seen you safely on board.  My duty is down. My journey goes nowhere near Tar Valon otherwise I would have gone there with you.  I will tell Nerissa and Thayna myself also."  She then goes to the two Accepted and tells them the same story and finally to Hadara Sedai.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
While waiting for the two Accepted to respond and exit so he could accompany them downstairs, Jennor was somewhat shocked and saddened to hear Ahlandra's plans to depart from the group in the not too distant future.  With a small sigh, Jennor sadly nodded his head in understanding and said with regret, "While I am sorry to hear that you will not be remaining with us all the way to Tar Valon, I do understand that one has to follow one's own course in this life.  It has been an honor and a pleasure to travel with you and fight beside you.  May the Light continue to shine upon your path, wherever it may lead Ahlandra."

While they had not known each other long, Jennor had come to regard Ahlandra as a trusted friend & comrade.  Often with all the other channelers (men as well as women) about to say nothing of wolfmen, wolves, Ogier and Aiel, often times Ahlandra was one of the few "normal people" in their company whom Jennor could relate to.  Still if matters demanded her attention elsewhere, then that was that.  Jennor had suspected that the Borderlander might soon feel the need to return home or at least to her General to report, especially once Hadara Sedai took charge of the group and began to head back to Tar Valon.

I thank you for the kind' words and you blessings.  I would rather stay and remains with people I ...enjoy companionship with. That includes all the good times and the difficult and dangerous times as well.  We learn to know ourselves and others well in such a variety of situations.  However their are others that I have a tie to me as well that I need to attend to.  I left because I thought it was best but sometimes things just have to be faced head on regardless of how hard it will be. That much I have learned with you all on this trip.  So now I go to do what I must do.

"Good morning ladies, time to rise & shine.  Alecho mentioned that breakfast is waiting for us downstairs."

Nerissa wasn't interested in getting up or eating breakfast. She answered the door and tried not to growl or snap, merely nodded. Thayna seemed to groan and not otherwise say anything. Nerissa lay down... just for a moment.

Ahlandra came to the door and said she would be leaving the group at Caemlyn. That was too bad. Though they had had their differences, Nerissa had liked her.

Nerissa shook Thayna, "They want us to get up." Nerissa lay back down again.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Yes, they do.  Sorry Nerissa no more laying in a find comfortable bed for all hours of the days and beings one's own mistress. Thayna laughed ruefully.  However I don't think I will miss it. since I can hardly remember what a comfortable bed is like. My back side is flattened by the hard ground we slept on and my bottom pounded by constant riding.  Ah well, the things we have to give up.

Thayna rolled to the edge of the bed and sat up regretting leaving the warmth of her nest of blankets took her pillow and hit Nerissa with it.  She gather her pillow and then hit the mound that was Nerissa still snuggled under the covers.  If I have to get up you have to get up to.

Gathering up her clothes, Thayna move to the fire place that had been stirred to like by a maid and then quickly stripped and changed into their traveling garments--hat she had set out in all that time ago from General Bashere's camp.

"At least we won't have to wear white until we are back in or near Tar Valon."

Brushing her hair and knotting it up deftly she left the room with her backpack and headed downstairs.

Sown stairs she saw familiar faces in storage colored tabards and one unfamiliar face in the same colored tabard.  At first she though it might be the driver of the coach but on closer examination she decided he was most definitely not.  Drives did not carry swords.  To her knowledge those persons carries knives, crossbow, a whip or perhaps a cudgel. and then there was the way he moved.  Upon quick comparison with the others she concluded her was most certainly one of there own-a guard, a high quality guard and certainly with the making to those just and Jennor or Bren.

Thayna moves across to the group, in the typical gliding stride of a Domani woman anywhere of any stations.  IT was bread into their bones.  That was accompanied by a warm smile of greeting for her trusted and true companion.  With easy grace and camaraderie She greeted them all.  "Good Morning to you all. she turns to the new man introducing herself.  "I am Thayna Dabei. Do I have it right that you are one of Lord Dracoholt's men?"

I serve Lord Dracoholt unwaveringly." He studies the young Domani woman closely out of curiosity, habbit formed from his training, and that she is very pleasing upon the eyes. He then motions for the table, "Breakfast is ready. Please, take your seat as we wait for the others." He gives Bren a respectfull nod as he turns his attention back to the stairs to wait for the others to arrive. His senses sharp as he maintains vigilance in case of trouble. With the descent of the three ladies down the stairs, Jennor soon follows after them and joins the others already gathered for breakfast.  Upon spotting the new face in a tabard now also worn by others in his party, Jennor nodded towards the man as he approached, holding out his hand (showing well developed calluses from extensive sword practice) saying in a friendly tone, "Good morning, you must be the one bringing us the tabards denoting service to His Lordship.  Since we'll be traveling together and have not met previously, might we learn your name?

Jennor took a seat with a slightly perplexed expression on his face.  He looked around at the table and everyone from the Aes Sedai party seemed to be present already.  With a shrug of his shoulders, Jennor said, "As you wish Master Lee but if I may inquire, whom else are we expecting?  Is His Lordship coming to breakfast with us perhaps?  Or some other member of His Lordship's retinue?"

OOC: I think everyone is now at the table right (ie: Ahlandra, Bren, Nerissa, Thayna, Hadara & Alecho), or did I miss someone?  Of course those are the people Jennor knows of, Talis may be referring to someone else.

OOC: Hadara has not yet made an appearance.

Hadara comes in from the kitchen area with several kitchen maids behind her they are carrying in platter of food for breakfast and pitchers of ale, milk and cider. Putting them down on the table Hadara indicates, they hurry back to the kitchen and return with two well laden baskets. and pitches of ale, milk, and cider. She looks over the assembled members of the party stopping a Talis. "You are Lord Draconholt's man." This was not so much question but rather a simple statement of fact.

"I am Hadara Rennkin. It will suffice, and best you all remember that name. I am taking these two girls back to their families after they had been visiting with Lord Draconholt's daughter. I am here to escort you back since I want to see my kin in Caemlyn, where you two will be reunited with your family shortly later. I hope that is understood. Both of you I hope can come up with plausible stories for yourself.  But then share them with me so that I know. The only one good things is that you are both not yet sworn on the Oath Rod.

"When you are all done we will leave. I give you twenty minutes not more. Now eat up We are not stopping for lunch so eat up."

Nerissa was feeling better. It could have been something that she ate yesterday. Or perhaps the threat of what might happen to Thayna and herself upon reaching the White Tower was eating away at her confidence.

In any case, Hadara Sedai's challenge to come up with a good story would give her an excuse to seem preoccupied. Now, what would her family in Caemlyn be like?

Having seen that the 2 Accepted and Hadara Sedai (now "Hadara Rennkin") were safely secure aboard the coach, Jennor readied his mount for the trip.  As the group rides/rolls out onto the road once more, Jennor eyes the skies noting that foul weather may lie before the travel party before long.  He takes a moment to check that his tabard is clearly displaying Lord Draconholt's coat-of-arms in a manner similar to the "real guards" before resuming his alert watch of the surroundings they pass, ready to spring into action should he sense danger.

Talis takes point as he scans the area for trouble. Bandits like nothing more than to hold up carriages of important people. And in these times of trouble, the danger is greater as people become more and more desparate. Even the shadow spawn are becoming more bold. He looks to the 'guards', "I will scout up ahead. One of you take the rear and insure we are not being followed or trailed." He then spurs his horse into a gallop without waiting for replies.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Nerissa was coming up with a story that would hold up under the strictest scrutiny. She didn't need to lie. She would just tell part of the truth, that no-one could say nay to.

She was a jewelry craftswoman. The Din Nelyn family were Atha'an Miere merchants. They didn't normally come up any of the rivers but stayed on the seas. She, on the other hand, was trying to expand her product clientele inland. Caemlyn, the capital of Andor, made a good base of operations. There was the queen and her court. There were rich merchants that might want to have some distinctive jewelry to show off to their friends, and to their rivals. She had thought that some of the other towns, like Whitebridge, might be good places to try as well.

Her family had said that they would come to Caemlyn to pick her up, if it were at all possible. Who could say if storms or contrary winds and currents might delay their arrival?

There wasn't a lie in her tale. She was confident that everything would turn out allright in the end...

Moving ahead, Talis studies the road ahead of them and then the sides of the road. He notes any and all possible ambush sites and studies them carefully. His senses full alert. In the process, he kinda thinks back to what he said and chuckles and says softly to himself, "I don't think I chose my words correctly." He shrugs and continues on. Appears he spends a great deal of time in the wilderness and not enough time in learning some people skills.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
There is traffic on the road even this early.  Formers coming in with produce from their farms are some of the earliest.  Merchant trains setting out with you but the coach and four horse team make you much quicker vehicle.  about and hour or two out you are among some of the first travelers from White bridge making it this far though, a few have joined in from some of the small villages but most travel only a short way and then go off road on their own pursuits--local traffic that picks up and drops off the whole time.  Things go smoothly enough except for the died ruts from winter rains the cause and sickening sort of roll and sway in the coac, until latw morning almost near noon.

Everyone make a spot check, if you are inside the coach it is at -6

By mutual consensus, it was decided to split up the rear guard duty between the three of them (Jennor, Bren and Alecho).  As luck would have it, Jennor had taken the first rotation and had just finished his watch.  He was riding back to catch up with the other two.  Bren and Alecho had mentioned deciding on the road as to which of them would take the 2nd watch.  Thus far everything had seemed fairly calm and tame, though for how much longer it would remain so was uncertain.

Thayna had a lot to think about, she gave up worrying and what might happening it make her feel  worse and accomplished nothing for all the efforts.  SHe did not forgets those worries just put them on the back burner. Her story would be simple truth.  She was a member of a rich Domani trading family, traveling often with various members of her family learning the business. She had be invited By the Lady Azara whom she had meet while traveling and her family--her current family, these friends around her though that she would not mention--had encouraged her to visit the lord's daughter for a vacation at their hunting lodge. After all what trouble could three young women get into in a off season hunting lodge.

Thayna share her story with the others. It was fortunate, she thought that neither Nerissa or she had achieved that ageless look because they were still young. Hadara of course had.

The very firs to spot the distant riders was Talis being in the lead with less dust from the horses and carriage being kicked up. All the "guards" had soon learned to ride slightly to the side of the carriage or enough behind so that they did not inhale or eat any of the dust kicked up from the slightly dried road.  (Hwe rolled a nat 2010 to spot.  He caught and glimpse of white, white cloaks to be precise-- clearly indicating who and what the riders were,

However he is not sure of the number from this angle they were coming in towards them. straight on. but by their grouping she could the riders it could be 4-10 he didn't think more that that.

Jennor's superior eyesight had spotted the approaching Whitecloaks and he took a moment to judge the distances as well as the two groups' respective paces before he rode up to the window of the carriage.  Leaning over slightly to look into the carriage, Jennor said in a concerned tone, "It looks like a group of about 4-10 Whitecloaks riding up ahead.  If they continue at there current pace, I estimate the riders will converge with our group in as little as 12 minutes or as much as 30 minutes.  But... if they pick up the pace by spurring their mounts into a trot, the meeting could be in as little as 7 minutes but certainly no more than 23 minutes.

If you're going to use back stories, I suggest you get them prepared & ready to use very soon.

However, she wasn't clear as to what Talis was referring to, "We can take off our rings. What else in our appearance suggests that we are other than merchants?

Talis looks to her and speaks softly again, "You and the others are young enough that your beauty matches quite closely with your ages and should not have an issue, but Hadara has the young look of a channeler. She has maintained her beauty quite well. But, what ever we do, lets try to be cautiouse without looking like we are trying to be cautiouse." He looks back towards the whitecloaks and sighs as they are soon to approach. "decide on who will do the talking and fast as they are approaching quickly. I must confess that I really don't like whitecloaks too well so best that I keep quiet for the most part." He goes quiet again to wait for replies and to keep watch for trouble.

Jennor clears his throat slightly as he says softly, "Well Master Lee is correct about one thing at least, we need to decide whom among us is going to do the talking and that decision needs to be made quite soon.

In fact I would say that 2 people need to be selected.  The first person to address them should be one of the "guards" representing those "in service".  But no doubt the Whitecloaks will want to speak with the person "in charge" or at least the one claiming the highest social rank.  Needless to say, that naturally means one of you who is riding within the coach.  The lead "guard" and then indicate to the Whitecloaks the lady "employer" who will speak for the party as a whole.

While we may not wish to actually ask them to escort us, it might not be a bad idea to inquire of them as to any potential dangers we should be aware of along the road ahead.  Appeal to them as "protectors" and "upholders of the law & the Light" to provide forewarning of any threats along this path."

Jennor cast a quick glance back in the direction of the approaching Whitecloaks as he waited for the decision to be made within.

Also both Bren and Alecho, as fully trained & experienced Warders, are more apt to be potentially spotted for what they truly are should they take the lead to speak with the Whitecloaks.

Whereas I am not yet Bonded or fully trained, and thus I should not be at risk of "giving myself away" as I am not in truth a Warder.  Do you agree Mistress Hadara?

Also on that note, I know you are Mistress Hadara Rennkin... but by what names should identify Thayna and Nerissa?  What are the stories you three have settled upon and do I explain that the rest of us are in Lord Draconholt's service assigned to guard the coach?"

Thayna thought carefully. Hadara, she was sure was testing then yet again.  She had noticed the trend of her questions.  so she thought as the others responded.  then finally they the had finished she spoke up.  of the guards, Alecho stays with you, Bren is senior and knows about lord Draconholt and as leader he would assign am underling to make first contact. So the one to be sent is Talis or Jennor. Of Nerissa and I I would say that I do most likely have the more experience. Thayna finished her summation and resisted stare at Hadara Sedai as if wondering if she had said enough or too much. .

Jennor looked a bit embarrassed as he said in a respectful tone, "My apologies Sir, I should have been clearer earlier... regretfully His Lordship is not traveling with us at the moment.  He has sent this carriage on with a portion of his servants to act as escort.  However His Lordship himself has remained behind in town to oversee some business, in particular I believe he was finalizing some issues regarding provisioning shipments from town to his estate... though I could be mistaken about the exact nature of His Lordship's business in town.

Though certainly Sir, I would be only too happy to pass on your name and your stated desire to speak with His Lordship when next I see him.

As for Her Majesty's decision regarding the restrictions on the ability of the Children of the Light to patrol the roads... well Sir, I do not know what to say or think.  Indeed it is not my place to do either for such high circles of power are way above the station of a humble servant.  I can only say that I share your concern about those who do not walk in the Light and I am grateful for any protection from those who serve the Dark One.

Speaking of such dangers, have you seen or heard of any such dangerous people threatening honest travelers upon this road?  Though no doubt should such evil catch sight of you and your fellow Children of the Light, they would certainly flee in fear."

Jennor nodded his head and replied, "By all means Sir, I am sure the travel party will be glad to meet their protector who has kept the roads free of danger.  The three passengers are merchants I believe, acquaintances of His Lordship whom he extended the offer of transport and escort.  I believe at least one of them, Lady Dabei, is Domani.  You know doubt have heard the tales that a Domani woman's talent for seduction is matched only by her skill in negotiating trade deals... such I believe it is for Lady Dabei.  Or at least she seems the more dominant personality, the more open and socially outgoing of the three.  Her fellow merchant companion Mistress din Nelyn appears the more quiet and shy of the two.

I believe poor Mistress Rennkin has taken somewhat ill, though whether it is just the general malaise of rough travel by coach or perhaps something not agreeing with her from the meal she at before departure is unclear.  I believe she has been trying to quiet her discomfort with extended rest.

For the lady's sake, I would ask that, if she is sleeping, perhaps we might not disturb her?  In any case I understand from His Lordship that Lady Dabei is nominally the "leader" if you will among the travel party... not surprising I suppose given her status and the reputed skill of the Domani women for business."

Jennor smiled appreciatively and said in a thoughtful tone, "Well that is a most gracious offer Sir.  Certainly one hears many places about the valiant fight the Children of the Light make against the Darkfriend minions of the Dark One.  It is noble work.  Though I must admit that His Lordship has been a most kind and generous lord.  Still one must look to the future and I shall keep your offer in my mind."

Jennor continued to ride alongside the Lieutenant and, as they approached the side of the coach, Jennor softly announced, "Lady Dabei, Mistress din Nelyn?  Is Mistress Rennkin still resting quietly?  The honorable officer leading the contingent of noble Children of the Light has requested an meeting with you ladies but I have explained about Mistress Rennkin's delicate stomach and "indisposition".

We do not wish to disturb her slumber if she is resting.  Nevertheless, if I may say so, I believe it would be nice if Your Ladyship could quietly converse with the fine officer as his fellow Children of the Light have promised us safe passage along the road, free of the danger of the Dark One."

With a nod of his head to the officer, Jennor says, "I thank you Sir for taking an interest in our well being and I too would like to offer my encouragement for your continued vigilance that has kept this area free from danger.

May the Light continue to shine & guide both our parties, protecting us from the evils of the Dark One.  I bid you and your fellow Children of the Light a pleasant good day."

Jennor then urges his mount forward to ride slightly ahead of the carriage as he keeps his eyes on the road ahead.

Hmm... they didn't seem like bad chaps despite being Whitecloaks and all.  Maybe not every Child of the Light has to be a violently power-hungry bully or brute?  Of course whether that officer will remain as pure of purpose should he rise in the ranks among the Children is another story.

Talis looks back at Jennor and nods to him, "I am goin to scout ahead." Without another word, he takes off ahead of the group to scout the area. His eyes darting left, right, up, and down in search of any signs of trouble that may lay waiting for them on the road.

After leaving Four Kings the land while still most ly open wand not inhabited this far out.  Jennor know that the closer they got to Caemlyn there would be  farms and villages would be scattered along the road and further a field.  However this stretch did have several areas that had fairly extensive stand of trees along it.  It was a wise idea to check them out. There had always been reports of a few bandit bold enough to try there hand on small group or single travelers.

A Low voiced conversation was taking place low at first and more but as it continued the voluble and volatile it became.  One voice  though cut through the argument with a low  voiced command.

Silence reigned. in the thick undergrowth.

Jennor drew his blade as his suspicions were aroused by the mysterious argument suddenly gone silent.  He motioned for the others to prepare themselves likewise as he pulled back on the reins of his mount in order to fall back sufficiently to speak with the ladies inside the carriage.

Jennor leaned over and said in a soft tone, "I think it might be wise of you ladies to be prepared for some potential danger up ahead.  I know nothing definite as yet, though Mr. Lee is out scouting... however I could hear some sort of increasing volatile argument stemming from the undergrowth ahead... just before a forceful voice of command silenced the dispute.

Maybe it is nothing... but I don't like unexplained occurrences."

Jennor paused in case any of the ladies wished to reply and he readied his mount to move forward again.

Jennor didn't hear anything but his eyesight was just sharp enough to spot the attack upon the man riding ahead.  Jennor drew his blade as he said, "We are under attack!"

Instead of rushing ahead to engage the bandits, thus leaving the carriage behind undefended, Jennor instead maneuvered his mount so as to place himself between the attackers and the passengers within the carriage.

It was not that he did not wish to aid the man under attack, but as a warder-in-training, Jennor knew that the first duty of any warder was to remain close to the side of the Aes Sedai he was protecting... he was both sword and shield for the Aes Sedai.

As he took up his position, he motioned for the others to advance saying, "Half should advance and lend aid, the other half shall remain to protect the carriage.  This attack ahead may only be a diversion to draw away the defenders."

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Aleco moved his horse beside the coach nearest to where Hadara Sedai sat. Guarding his Aes Sedai his Aes Sedai

The coachman a veteran of many engagements with His Lordship  had his own idea of how to help.  He drove his horse forward, charging at the attackers.  Nothing like tons of horse flesh and coach thundering down of the rabble to get them to scatter he thought with Glee.  He figured the Guards could handle the rabble. but  it was better to have them all together than apart where. They boys seemed smart lads and capable too just not seasoned yet. Not the the Aes Sedai's Warder, that man was high quality steel. All the young ones needed needed was some tempering.

THe heavy coach horses charged forwards and the coachman shaved off part of the attackers who either fled for fear of being trampled or were trampled trampled. Talis now had about ten left about him about half had been shifted away or lay screaming on the ground.

Unfortunately, it did leave the coach in the midst of the remain two side of attackers.  That was further complicated by a group that had leaped out of the woods where the coach had been these men were mounted.  Soon the travelers were not in the midst of three groups.

Roll Initiatives.
Jennor you get an opening attack, all other will be next round.

There are about 12-15 riders behind split in two groups and about 15 toughs  left active

Jennor's whirling blade work spread damage throughout the attackers.  Most of them were wounded to varying degrees, Some could still function, a lot of them were severely hampered by their wounds and several were down two unconscious and bleeding profusely badly.

These toughs had expected a battle and some of them knew that one of them might be hurt or even killed.  It was art and parcel of such a job and they knew it.  However this lone guard and decimated them to a degree they had never know. Discretion being greater than valor, life being better than death, and stronger that the threats of t the ranting little man  and they turned a tried to run, limp, or crawl away as fast as they were able. It was a route except for two of the uninjured and the two unconscious raiders that were down. One huge fellow with fist like hams who carried a club

Things seemed to be well in hand when a Arrow takes Jennor in his left arm from behind him. Since he had just turned at the sound of the coach arriving in the midst of all of this, it saved him from it piercing his chest.

Talis leaps from his horse and lands just as her wanted to behind a group of attackers. two are threatening Jennor

Jennor takes action against any still threatening him.

Nerissa and Thayna link. Thayna lets Nerissa lead their circle. Hadara looks at them in surprise.  "What are you doing?" You can not use the One Power to harm or kill. The Three Oaths.m you have been taught those.

Alecho pulls his sword and makes a whirling attack against the lead riders in the mounted partym the leaders cannot move back because of the riders that closed in behind them, though they do try frantically to swing the horses away.

Hadara holds the One Power, but is watching the two Accept, just waiting.

On her next initiative, Nerissa casts Harden Air to offer protection to Alecho on his left flank and anchored against the rear corner of the carriage. The barrier is 10' high, 12.5' wide, total of 125 sq.ft.

So the attackers can only come against him from the right and ahead. The goal is to, on her next cast, to do the same on the right flank and the front corner of the carriage.

When both are completed, only one to three at a time should be able to attack him, and he is protected from arrows/bolts on either side.

The weave uses a level 2 slot: +1 link, +1 Nerissa has Air as an Affinity = level 4.

Jennor had two assailants before him still showing fight and about at least others that were still hesitating whether to flee or fight. With the two sor sure attackers they  might regain their courage and join in the attack  the only others were to badly wounded to fight or were just fleeing as best as they could by whatever means they could

Both the two Warders in train proved their metal and did their instructors proud. Each using Scything the wheat against their lesser opponents to good effect. A maneuver not advised  to use against well trained opponents but good against multiple less trained opponents. The thugs before them dropped like cut wheat and fell where they were dead or dying.  crying out in pain, if they still could.

However if that fight was over the battle was not yet won.  behind them came the whistle of cross bow bolts. Jennor was hit once  glancing along his side instead of his heart and his whirling attack made it difficult for the shooter to hit what he had aimed for.  Talis however got hit hard with two bolts one hitting and deep slice on his thigh and the other through his left thigh

Jennor -9 points
Talis -18 hampered movement.

Talis now has the chance to focus the troop of riders close to the coach.  Strangely to others, but not to Talis and company, they can't seem to move to close in all the way / S few riders turn their horses to go around from the front two crossbowman are mounted one is on the ground aim. You are being targeted by the one on the ground with Jennor and Alecho each being targeted by the other two. Nerissa has created invisible walls to keep the riders at bay.

A voice calls out amongst the riders.  "What is a matter with you? Take that coach. Get those guardsmen. We want Lord Draconholt, not them."

One of the crossbowmen with Talis in his sights fires, another at on Jennor the arrow bounces off nothingness. one arrow skittered along the surface of that same nothingness.

There were varied and  mingled expletives from the attackers.. when the first voice called out again "Whatever trickery is this is he must be taken." Several follow the unseen barrier and began to round its edge.

No wonder they aren't anxious to obey your commands, you remain safely in the background shouting orders while your men lie broken & bloody on the ground around us.

Or perhaps they now realize what we here already know... you're a damn fool and an idiot to boot!  You want Lord Draconholt?  Well then you're only several MILES away from grabbing him!  Just because a coach has a crest on it, only a moron automatically assumes that the lord is riding in that carriage.  You could, but WON'T, take this carriage and everyone with it... and you'd still be totally empty handed as far as Lord Draconholt is concerned!"

The riders at the barrier turn away not sure what is holding them back. Jennor said in a coolly confident tone, "You will find nothing here but your own deaths... and painful deaths at that.  A man may fight for pay... but no amount of coin is ever sufficient payment for throwing your lives away.  And all for nothing, for whatever you seek is not to be found in the carriage.

Didn't like this job all that much, but Lords do strange things and Who an I to ask questions."

Jennor grimaced slightly as he looked at the man and said in a resigned tone, "So your job was to what... capture or kill Lord Draconholt, and kill everyone else in his entourage?  And do you have any idea where you were to take His Lordship after the ambush?

Where were you hired, in which town, how far from here?

Also did this Captain Averi wear any identifiable coat-of-arms?  If so, what was the sigil?"

OOC: Does the name Captain Averi ring any bells?

Hadara Sedai ateps up to the coach and prepares to enter. "Bind them all on the extra horses, They will be given over to the Queen's Justice once we reach Caemlyn, Which without any more interruptions should be later on this day."

Nerissa and Thayna you can see to out wounded  and any others that may not make it as far as  Caemlyn.

Once on the road again, it was a odd procession.  The coach and it guards who mostly guarded the bound prisoners.  Bren finally returned to the group shortly after they started off.  His tale was short and to the point==not a man of many words.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Upon hearing that Hadara Sedai wished all of the wounded attackers to be taken, alive, to Caemlyn, and to be made an example for the Queen's Justice, she nodded at Thayna and the two went about their business.

Those that were lightly wounded were bound and tied to their horses first. Those with greater wounds were healed first, then bound and tied.

Hadara Sedai would not find the two would-be Aes Sedai making any errors on the way to the White Tower.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Jennor gladly welcomed the healing of the Accepted as the arrows were removed from his left arm and side.  It had not been a bad battle from his perspective but he hoped to hone his defensive skills sufficiently to become an even more difficult target for the next time.

Jennor was disappointed that he was unable to get more information out of the bandits but he figured it would be awhile before they were tempted to take on an unknown opponent in the future.

Once his wounds were seen to, Jennor helped to prepare & secure the prisoners for travel.

After that was done, Jennor mounted his horse again and prepared to press onwards in escort of the carriage.  Jennor felt a slight sense of relief when Bren returned to the group, though he was curious where the older Warder had been during the ambush.  But Jennor knew better than to inquire, if Hadara Sedai was satisfied with Bren's brief report then that would have to do for Jennor as well.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
Talis accepted the healings from the ladies. Once healed, he went about his duties to secure the prisoners before returning to his horse as well. He kept quiet for the most part as he took up his usual position. Those men moved quite fast. Too fast to be normal. He had the jump on them and should have had the ability to get clear of them before he was surrounded but they were able to surround him with extreme quickness. Their movements were unnatural. For now, he keeps his tongue and will address it to lady Hadara at a more proper time.

Re: 5.2 White Tower
The party completes their trip to Caemlyn with the small procession of prisoners temporarily adding to their numbers. At the city gates, Hadara had the prisoners turned over to the Queen's guards.

"We will be staying at the Queen's Blessing, if you need any more information,  today at least  and until tomorrow or whenever we catch a ship sailing to Tar Valon. Having given them her name the coach continues to a well set up Inn.

The  Queen's Blessing was a well maintained inn and seemed fairly busy even in this early afternoon hour.

The stablemen responded quickly to the emblazoned coach stopping in the inn's yard.

one boy opened the coach door and let down the steps.  Hadara Sedai lead the way out. "I will bespeak us accommodations here.  I often stay here while I am traveling."

Talis nods to her and goes about seeing to it that the horses and coach is taken care of. Again, he kept his peace for now. Patience is a virtue and he is blessed by the creator with ample suply of it.
