7.1 The White Tower
Alecho broke off from Hadara Sedai long enough to speak to  to each of the Warders-in-training.  He had no qualms about Bren talking more than necessary nor would he even suggest this to him. "Report  back to Jaacum. Say nothing of this trip more than necessary. Only that you were commanded by Aes Sedai to take it and now have returned."

Bren How about you and I going down to get a drink at the Lion's Head.

Nerissa and Thayna were given different instructions. "You two report to the Mistress of Novices after you are properly dressed in you whites.  I will leave a message with her that you two are to be given a room together.  Less chance of tales leaking out.  I want no leaks not one hint of what went on, Do you understand? Your studies will be continued as if you never left.  However you will be summoned to give a complete accounting of what happened from the time you left to when I found you..  You half truths will not serve you. You didn't think I believed what you told me was the whole truth, did you?"

Her orders given, Hadara whirls and makes her way to find the Mother. Her report was the the Mother's ears alone and it was so much more than the simple task she had been sent to discover.

Re: 7.1 The White Tower
Jennor merely listened to Alecho's instructions in a passive manner and simply nodded his head as he said stoically, "As you, or more to the point as Hadara Sedai, command... so shall it be done."

Jennor watched briefly as Alecho and Bren headed off to the The Rose and Thistle but he didn't say anything aloud.  The fact was that Jennor was unsure what he was going to do next.  Oh he would do as ordered (for now) and report back to Jaacum and keep his mouth shut for the time being.  But he was unsure if he still wanted to be a Warder.  Bren had been one, or was still one, but the experience had hardly been beneficial to the man... the Bren today was not the Bren Jennor had know before and the change had not seemed to be for the better.

As for himself, Jennor felt his stride had a certain added swagger to it.  He knew that somewhere along the road, perhaps during that last battle where he'd faced down and survived a confrontation of one-against-many, he had elevated his swordsmanship to a new level.  He could sense the added grace and precision when practicing his sword forms.  For the first time in his life, Jennor felt he might truly deserve the heron mark upon his family's ancestral blade... that he was worthy of living up to the expectation of that heron mark.  Unlike before, Jennor did not feel self-conscious now about openly displaying the heron mark though he was careful not to be too brazen about it.  While he felt more confident in his swordsmanship, he knew he had only begun to walk the true path of the blade... there was still more to learn.

With a resigned sigh, Jennor saw to the proper stabling of his horse and then carried his meager belongings with him to the dormitory where the warders-in-training were housed.  He would drop his gear off at his assigned bed and then seek out Jaacum as instructed to make his brief report and await further instructions.

At least I seem to be getting off lighter than the girls... I don't envy Nerissa or Thayna... it seems Hadara Sedai has "plans" for them and I doubt that can mean anything "good" for them.

Nerissa listened to this with trepidation. Thayna and she were to give a complete accounting of what happened from the time they had left Tar Valon.

Well, Tar Valon to the battlefield near Maradon wasn't a problem, nor was it a problem from where Hadara Sedai had met them near to Emond's Field back to Tar Valon. But in between!

Well, they couldn't do anything until they were dressed in their whites, which both Thayna and she still had, and so Nerissa said, "Let's get cleaned up, dressed as she said, and then report to the Mistress of Novices.

We inform her that we have received instructions from Hadara Sedai to say nothing to anyone until the Amyrlin Seat should summon us.

However, we should be given a room together and our studies should continue as they had before we originally left for Maradon.

Agreed?"

Thayna nods in agreement..  "There are many parts we can tell but we need to leave the particulars out about that male channeler and the Aiel women.  They were posing as travelers headed in the same directions and thus our travels together.  we can mention the attack of the Trollocs on that village, I daresay though we might not be believed,  that might serve us well that they do not. I will keep my promise about the Traveling weave.  that cannot get out.  Could you imagine what might be the consequences of that.  It might serve us also to describe in detail mundane things as well.  The wedding, the trip down the river, Emonds Field. Oh and the stories the villagers told of being attacked by Trollocs last Beltine. Then of course Lady Hadara found us and we have been with her since that time."

"What do you think, Nerissa, will we be able to get away with that?"

Bren and Alecho post now in the Tar Valon Thread. You are at the main gate othat separates the white Tower from the city itself.  The party and the Captain of the Watch are standing just outside the grounds of the White Tower.  You have stopped to talk to or at least have Bren talk to the Captain of the Day Watch.

Talis remains quiet for now. Up till now, he has been serving lord Dragonholt. He is unsure of what to do now as his orders were to serve Hedara Sedei till she no longer needs him and dismisses him. Then follow what orders she gave him in his dismissal. He is confused right now as the trip is over and he has no where else to go but home. If he still had a home. Being an orphan is no picnic.

Just before Alecho left with Bren, he calls out to Jennor. "Jennor, make sure Talis is introduced to The Warder Trainers when you report back. I want him tested. You will be most likely tested again as will. Progress will be expected. Make a good showing.

"Talis, From what I have seen of you bladework, you have had good training, and a sound groundwork. You should do well. However, one friendly piece of advice; a lot of younglings come in with an attitude, many are rich mens or sons or of a noble house and have trained for years Some  are serious and some less so, thinking they know it all. That is quickly weeded out of them if they plan on becoming a Warder or a blade master.

Thayna Dabei:
"What do you think, Nerissa, will we be able to get away with that?"

Nerissa was depressed, "To be honest with you, Thayna...no.

As confident as I feel I have become in these weeks we have been on our own, as much as we have learned about the One Power, as many new Weaves that we now know more than the average Accepted, as much as we have learned about the true state of affairs in the world and gained from our experience in it... no.

We told Hadara Sedai most of what we had seen and had done... and she did not believe us.

But, if we tell The Amyrlin more, or less, we are still not going to be believed. If I heard our story, I myself wouldn't believe it!

If we tell of some of the things that we did, and we leave out the people that we traveled with who did those things with us, our stories are not going to make sense.

If we begin editing what we did, when will be able to stop? But, what I fear most, is that we will never be able to keep our individual stories straight, yours and mine. And, the Amyrlin will question Jennor, and Ahlandra, and their story will be different than ours.

The four of us will never get a chance to get together to iron out our stories, and so the Amyrlin will hear those that are at least three different!. And, once there are differences, you and I will come under very heavy pressure, and then there will be four!

No, I think we should consider telling the same story that we told Hadara Sedai, so that we are consistent. They will not believe us, but there will be so much more that they will want to learn from us that they will not kill us or "still" us outright. You and I are already more powerful than many of the Full Aes Sedai, and they will want to try to control us rather than get rid of us. So,

1) We can take and pass the test to become Aes Sedai, they will make us a part of their problem, and send us out to find the others.

2) They will try to kill or still us, but we still can escape and live.

Not good, but better if they break us and learn that we have been lying to them all along. Then, they will surely still us."

Nerissa was very depressed, and looked to Thayna as if to confirm that all of her reasoning was right, or wrong...

"Okay the same tale, and we wo;; try to include the truth a swe each saw it.  that sould help us if our stories are slightly different form point of view. You know that we have to tell the Amylin how Berlain disappeared from the center of General Bashere's camp with Masrim Taim--just mention that it was into thin air--which it was. We don't have to tell he we traveled the dame way."

Thayna wanted to keep her promise to Melina and or course the one about Darek as well.

I will not be responsible for setting the Red Ajah on Melina's husband, Darek.  I could not live with myself if I did.  You must promise to keep that secret.  It would be poor repayment to them.  We are alive because of them.

"Will you agree to that at least." Thayna beseeches hr friend.  They ahd been to so much together.  Even she felt confident about being tested for Aes Sedai.  "You know once we are tested they cannot force us to answer."

Talis's head turns this way and that as he gazes upon the Tower and the grounds around it. All the women and young women moving here and there as they attend to their duties. He is like a kid in a candy store as he has never in his life seen such marvels as he is seeing now. The white tower itself looms over the entire grounds like an ivery guardian with him nothing more than a simple ant to be squashed.

Re: 7.1 The White Tower

Bren knew of the Captain of the Watch by sight and reputation and a few words with him.  He was not sue though about starting a conversation with him while he was on duty and with visitors.  Still Alecho had asked him to do this as a favor and he had not reason not too.

Turning his horse in the Captain's direction her rode forward towards the small party at the gate. Fortunately, before he could think or something to day by way of and opening the Captain turned to him. Warder, Alecho, Warder Bren.  it has been of while since I have seen you two around.  Not that I want to need to know why he said with quick smile, Just an observation. Have a good Day."

The Captain turns back to the party before him.  "Now the Lion's head is right back down this main street at the first crossroad you come to. "Big place, good food, You should be well served there." The Captain finishes.

Bren notices Alecho scanning the group especially the tall Armswoman, Her also noticed with a trained eye that she she stood poised and ready to act. Deep red hair tailed back in a long tail, simple woodsman clothes, no armor that he could see but plenty of weapons.

Jennor nodded his head in acknowledgment as he said simply, "I will do as you instruct Alecho Gaidin.  As for my being tested... I shall not be found wanting, you may rely upon that."

Jennor glanced over at Bren and nodded towards the man as he said in a friendly tone, "If you wish to talk later Bren, you know where to find me."

Talis nods to him, "I was orphaned some time ago. Can't remember when to be exact. All I have of my family is this sword that supposedly belonged to my father." He shrugged then bows his head, "I will not fail." He then follows Jennor without another sound.

As Jennor led Talis towards the Warder barracks through the White Tower grounds, he glanced back at Talis and said in a curious tone, "Is it your wish to truly become a Warder, accepting the Bond to an Aes Sedai?  Or do you merely wish to avail yourself of the excellent training provided to the Warders-in-Training?

There is no shame, at least as I see it, if your desire is the latter rather than the former.  Many boys and young men come to the White Tower to train under the Warders who do not become Bonded Warders, but they can benefit from the training all the same.  There is likely no greater concentration of bonafide Blademasters in all the land.

And even the greatest swordsmen may find, within them, that in the final analysis they are not right for or ready for the Bond.  Additionally there are only so many Full Aes Sedai Sisters, and the Red Ajah Sisters do not count for they never Bond Warders though the Green Ajah Sisters sometimes make up for that by Bonding more then one Warder... so there is probably not enough Full Aes Sedai to Bond every man who completes his training here."

Talis nods to Jennor as he replies softly, "I wish to train as a warder and blade master. As for the bonding, time enough for that when the need arises. Still, I have never seen such marvel as the tower itself. I only heard of it in stories. I wish only to aid the Aes Sedai in the defense of our people from the shadow spawn that threatons us." He follows Jennor, speaking only when spoken to as Talis is a young man of few words. Perhaps his time in the wilderness dampened his social skills. Who knows.

Jennor continued onwards towards the Warder barracks as he said, "Well if you want training as a Warder and Blade Master, you came to the right place.  I'll admit the White Tower certainly is a wonder... though I suppose after a few years of living in its shadow, the familiarity has worn away the novelty for me.

So who exactly are "your people"?  Are you Andoran by birth?  Not that it makes any difference here, everyone, no matter where they originally come from, are treated equal at the White Tower... at least at first, then talent & ability take them in different directions.

I am curious though, did Lord Draconholt know that you would be remaining with us in Tar Valon?  How long were you in Lord Draconholt's service?"

Nerissa remembered the others, Darek and Melina, Raiel, Azara and Xander. They had had some disagreements, but had fought together well and to good purpose.

"I do agree that we should keep Darek's secret.

You and I do not know much of the Aiel, and so not know what social arragements that they may make among themselves. Darek seemed to be acting as the Wise Woman Melina's Warder. There seemed to be a close relationship of friendship between the Wise Woman and the Aiel Spearwoman. And, it did seem that there was a bonding between the woman, Azara, and the Woodsman, Xander.

We worked together well. We went our separate ways, when their group went back to the Aiel Wastes. At least, that's where we think that they went.

How does that seem to you?"

In reply to Jennor Elan (msg #17):

Talis shrugs, "I am from the midlands. That much I can remember. I can't remember when I was first orphaned. Mostly nightmares is all I can muster right now. Lord Draconholt found me nearly starved to death gripping this sword and bow. He took me in, had me nursed back to health and I started training as a woodsman and hunter under the tutalidge of his master hunter. Again, I can't recall just how long I was serving him. But, Lord Draconholt informed me that I am to serve Lady Hadara as long as I am needed. If she wishes to dismiss me, then follow her last orders. Which, I am assuming, is to report to the warder trainers. So, I don't think he is expecting me to return home any time soon. If at all." He frowns as he shrugs with the last statement as he continues to follow Jennor.

Upon reaching the training grounds where Jaacum watched over the warder Trainees and other students, be they noble, or Tower guardsman. He was in his usually mod, moving around the square as his pupils and ex pupils practiced.. Upon occasion he steps in to "Instruct" a trainee or correct a student's performance.  When he did other watched  especially if they want to learn from a master for a Master Jaacum was.  The current occupants with mostly Tower Guard and Warder Trainees with one of two Warders practicing together off to the side.

Jaacum sharp eyes caught the least change about him thus as soon as Jennor turned the corner his eyes shifted to his errant student and a newcomer. While different these two carried themselves like swordsman.  Jaacum noticed a new self=confidence in Jennor.  It would not  be long now before that young man was ready, Yes he had grown Jaacum thought and Jennor drew closer. Shifting his eyes to the other young, man, Jaccum had a chance to give him a looking over. He liked what he saw but he would have to learn more before he made any other assessment.

"About time you showed up, Jenn.r." Jaacum says to Jennor as he walks up.  "Have you finally decided to return. Why don't you and your companion pick up some practice gear and have at it.  IF you have let yourself get rusty since leaving, you will be less rusty before you leave here today.
