Re: Tolkeen : Chapter 12 -- Squad One
"Glad to have you aboard, Jake. I can't claim to be a so knowledgeable in spell magic, but I have devoted my life to the study of magic. I channel the mystic energy through symbols and circles, which brings me to a question. I have already spoken with the rest of the platoon about this. The majority of circle and ward magic is unfocused and can cause harm to a wide field instead of targeting a single foe. This means that there is a risk of hurting my comrades, unless the wards and circles are affixed with either the true names or a symbol drawn in the blood of those who should not be harmed.
I would be willing to try teaching you some of my magic in exchange for your true name as it is much easier than trying to work with vials of blood all the time."
Turning to Heinrich, Nuitari responds in a familiar western tongue. "Of course I am familiar with the great Western Empire. There is also an elven policeman working in Tolkeen whom I have come to call friend. He too hails from the same realm you and I would call home. I have met no others from Palladia since I arrived here. The first thing you must learn, which came as a shock to me, is that the people here have a science which rivals magic in power and depth. They once used swords and arrows in their past but learned to create machines and weapons more powerful than you can imagine. When we return to Tolkeen, perhaps I'll introduce you to my wife who curates the city's library. She helped to teach me much about this world.
Do not worry about diverting your mental abilities to construction. The demons I have summoned will take car of this. I must ask, what is your opinion on summoners? I know of the reputation we have among common-folk..."
Nuitari, Jake, Heinrich and the Mar demon are now standing next to the ruined towers of the outpost, fifty feet or so from the Alu demons. Although speaking casually to his comrades, the summoner keeps a watchful eye on the creatures digging the foxhole.
