Re: Tolkeen : Chapter 12 -- Squad One

"Glad to have you aboard, Jake.  I can't claim to be a so knowledgeable in spell magic, but I have devoted my life to the study of magic.  I channel the mystic energy through symbols and circles, which brings me to a question.  I have already spoken with the rest of the platoon about this.  The majority of circle and ward magic is unfocused and can cause harm to a wide field instead of targeting a single foe.  This means that there is a risk of hurting my comrades, unless the wards and circles are affixed with either the true names or a symbol drawn in the blood of those who should not be harmed.
I would be willing to try teaching you some of my magic in exchange for your true name as it is much easier than trying to work with vials of blood all the time."

Turning to Heinrich, Nuitari responds in a familiar western tongue. "Of course I am familiar with the great Western Empire.  There is also an elven policeman working in Tolkeen whom I have come to call friend.  He too hails from the same realm you and I would call home.  I have met no others from Palladia since I arrived here.  The first thing you must learn, which came as a shock to me, is that the people here have a science which rivals magic in power and depth.  They once used swords and arrows in their past but learned to create machines and weapons more powerful than you can imagine.  When we return to Tolkeen, perhaps I'll introduce you to my wife who curates the city's library.  She helped to teach me much about this world.
Do not worry about diverting your mental abilities to construction.  The demons I have summoned will take car of this.  I must ask, what is your opinion on summoners? I know of the reputation we have among common-folk..."

Nuitari, Jake, Heinrich and the Mar demon are now standing next to the ruined towers of the outpost, fifty feet or so from the Alu demons.  Although speaking casually to his comrades, the summoner keeps a watchful eye on the creatures digging the foxhole.

Re: Tolkeen : Chapter 12 -- Squad One

"I would be honored to meet her. Science you say... I will be very interested to learn of this place." he pauses at the question, "Summoners must take great care in their craft, that I know. There are good and bad, as with any group of people in life. You are obviously one of the good ones. So I have no quarrel with you. If that's what you were asking." He again looked around briefly, "It does put me at ease knowing someone from home is here."

OOC I wonder if Heinrich would have heard of your adventures, you would be quite the celebrity I'm sure. lol

Boris uses his jets and flies back to Nuitari and the others carrying some netting and a few large tarps. "There is another handfull of this stuff, and some crates we could break down, but that is about it."

"Thanks Boris, we can probably salvage the old guard towers for materials as well, if need be."  Nuitari looks over at the demons working on the foxhole and they appear to be starting the second one already.  At this rate, they will have a defensive position set up long before the others return from their patrols.  Nuitari wonders if he might have time to add some magic to the defenses...

"My true name and in exchange for learning some new spells, I would be up for it. For obvious reasons, we would talk in private about this. You have proven your loyalty to Tolkeen but we are surrounded by a couple of mercenaries and demons..."

Jake certainly didn't want the demons to go spread his true name across hell and end up in a compromising position one day.

Re: Tolkeen : Chapter 12 -- Squad One

"What I would teach doesn't exactly qualify as a spell.  I am a user of rituals and it is this knowledge which I offer." Nuitari responds to the line walker.  "I have considered attempting to learn spell magic, but there is yet much to master in my own crafts.  Perhaps later however, we have a more basic task at hand."

Once Boris returns and all of the supplies are requisitioned, Nuitari grabs a ratchet, a handful of the bolts and starts assembling the posts to form tent-like structures above the foxholes that the alu have already dug.  With camo-netting stretched over top, they don't look like much up close.  They are supposed to reduce visibility from air assaults and Nuitari has faith in the science behind them.  He makes sure to set the structures up so that retreat from the foxholes would be unimpeded and that they provide as much cover as possible.

"Boris, do you think you can ask about explosives?  If we can lay traps beyond our defensive position, even after the guard towers are replaced, it could go a long way towards slowing an assault.  Are you knowledgeable in their use?"

In reply to Boris (msg #14):

Riding up on his hovercycle, a stoic soldier dismounted and approached Nuitari. Offering a salute, he identifies himself simply. "Corporal Max Zander, demolitions expert, reporting as ordered by Major Karno."

The tone of the bald man indicated he held little emotion outside of soldiering. He was armed with no less than 7 pistols, all obvious and in easily accessed locations. To compliment the plethora of weaponry he had two bandoleer - both filled with various types of explosives.

Re: Tolkeen : Chapter 12 -- Squad One

"Lieutenant Solinari." he responds, returning the introduction without a salute. "Are you able to set up a line of explosives beyond our foxholes there? I want to catch an approaching ground force before they are in range of the outpost and give our men in the foxholes time to fall back if necessary.  Do you have the equipment?  Afterwards, we may have need of demolitions disposal in a nearby village which may be mined. Do you know this village?"

In reply to Nuitari (msg #16):

"Which village? I'm familiar with the all surrounding areas, I just don't know which one needs my attention. The amount of explosives you are asking for will need a requisition request. I could start at that town and salvage what I can while waiting for the request to be processed." The response came across with no hesitation, and expressed no emotion, just down and dirty business.

In reply to Boris (msg #19):

Its an obvious idea. Max thought to himself. He had long since stopped showing much emotion at all, so the thought didn't even change his expression as he gave a minimal nod of acknowledgement to the 'borg. Looking from his Nuitari to the Boris and back, he asked the obvious question (to him at least). (Assuming Boris heard Max's introduction) He extended his hand to Boris, "You going to be giving me a hand out there, are am I solo on this?" As he finished the question, Max looked back to Nuitari for a response as well.

In reply to Boris (msg #22):

At the message, Max narrowed his eyes slightly and drowned out the ambient noise as he delved into his predatory nature. Again, no emotion crept on his face, but this was literally what he lived for. This felinoid attacked. That is all Max cared to hear. He is well within his rights to feast on this one's energy. He didn't plan on killing the individual. Not unless directed. But food is food.

"Sir. I'll find the feline. He will regret attacking the scouts. I won't kill him unless you give the order, but I doubt he'll be able to go invisible again after I'm through."

Max activates the Eyes of the Wolf spell on his goggles, giving him the ability to see the invisible. He begins scanning the area.

(OOC - Given level and abilities, Max will sense someone using PPE(or magic devices) or ISP used for a 1000ft radius. If supernatural, it is 1400ft)

"That sounds like our friend from yesterday... if that's him he chopped off Lotus's leg, nearly killed Nuitari, and was handling himself hand to hand with Silvermasque, while the rest of us were shooting him... then he misted and retreated... This won't be easy."

Re: Tolkeen : Chapter 12 -- Squad One

Boris liked the way this man thinks, he could respect his dedication and confidence. It felt good to serve with proud soldiers. Then again juicers often boasted such confidence, and bit off more than they could chew.

Looks like they might find out who's who in the next little while.

Boris just stares back coldly and emotionlessly at Max, unable to show any expression at all.

After making a brief radio broadcast, Nuitari looks at his comrades. "The 'feline' is known as a raksasha demon, a greater denizen of a dimension of pure evil.  They are master spell casters, mindmelters, and metamorphs.  They can take the shape of people you know and love.  I have magic that can detect a specific species of demon regardless of their current form but only within a short range: sixty feet or so.  Until this creature is destroyed, everyone must be vigilant."
