Re: Tolkeen : Chapter 12 -- Squad Two

Silvermasque (highly mobile 'borg)
Comartin (Glitterboy pilot)
Signal (Psi-ghost)
Thasha (Greot infantry)
NaWa (Psi-stalker on a dinosaur)
Jack (he's a freakin' dragon)
Local #1 (?)

 ---

Once 'Masque has the small group drawn back a way - not for privacy but just so that they can converse more easily - he settles down on a fallen hunk of structural support that groans under his mass and addresses the small squad "We will be doing patrol work to begin, is fair enough. But if is being trouble we will be needing to move fast and I am not being sure what our vehicle strength is. When we are knowing we can work out marching order."

"We are having, between Comartin and myself good sensors and Na-Wa can sense magic, demons and suchlike so I am not expecting we shall miss much, but do not be thinking sensors can do all work. Is nothing beats eyeball with good brain behind it, youbet, particularly since we may need to spread out. I will be making sure everyone is having map and is knowing how to get back if is split up." he goes on to add, not having been provided with a lot of the necessary information himself yet but wanting to shape things out for the nascent patrol so that any ideas they might have can be voiced when it's still soon enough for them to do some good.

Re: Tolkeen : Chapter 12 -- Squad Two

She walked stiffly over to Silvermasque, he couldn't be missed, even in the crowd of strange beings such as Pluto Company. Spotting right away that he is a mercenary, her stance shifts to a more relaxed 'I don't have to do shit for you asshole' sort of stance.

"I've been assigned to your command, as I know the area here. Name is Sergeant Matty Settle. I am primarily infantry. I do not know magic or psionic powers, but I have my own natural abilities I was born with. Still, I am infantry. I own a hovercycle if required. I also volunteer for point... makes sense, since I'm supposed to give you the grand tour anyway..."

Matty looked at the others as the squad gathered. They aren't as bad as she was expecting... and she gives a slight nod of approval as she scans the group.

Almost on queue with the radio transmission, The Major's aide jogs over and hesitates for a moment while he decides if he is supposed to salute Silvermasque or not... in the end of the very short moment, he decides to salute, as it can't hurt.

"Silvermasque sir, I have a map of the area for you. It can be downloaded to a PC, or maybe one of your cybernetics...? It includes all known CS routes, as well as any rivers, valleys, ruins, abandoned posts etc. The Major sends his regards. With your permission sir, I have to drop this off for Sergeant Pierce as well."

Re: Tolkeen : Chapter 12 -- Squad Two

Jack, of course, was a mercenary so he looked as relaxed as Settle but in a different way. Just because he didn't salute didn't mean he didn't follow orders or couldn't respect others. He grinned at the effiminete-looking man with natural powers. He really wanted to say something using the last name as a joke but refrained since Settle had just arrived.

He looked at Silvermasque. "Don't have a ride, but then I don't really need one. I think Na-Wa's baby is too skittish for me to ride on likely, even if he allowed me to. But it you want aerial recon, I can do that, though I'll have to be invisible so as to not be a devastatingly gorgeous and large target." He chuckled a bit at the mock-vanity.

Re: Tolkeen : Chapter 12 -- Squad Two

Signal follows the group, and while they are talking over logistics he chimes in with, "I'm better than fair with surveillance equipment, but since that is covered I will make a good pair of extra eyes. I have no transport. I... uh... tend to wreck them, so I will need a ride." Signal looks down as he says the last part with a bit of a smirk on his face. He remembers learning to drive as a kid, and getting scared more than a couple of times and dropping right out of the vehicle and watching it crash and then he remembers how viable of a tactic that has been for him when the time for stealth was over.

After reliving a few of his fond memories, he realizes that if he spent more time learning how to drive and keeping a vehicle he would probably me much more useful right now. While the others continue to talk he zones out a bit as he thinks to himself, 'I know signing up was the right thing to do but can I really contribute? So many wounded and I can't heal, under ranged attack and I can't defend another or strike back at that range, even routine patrols I am dependent on someone else. Even the others who have mental or magical powers are able to contribute but mine are so selfishly focused, which has kept me alive so far, but this is what I wanted, out of my element and helping any way I can. I will learn more in a week here than a year doing the same old stuff. Keep your head down and sooner or latter you will be useful.' He shakes his head a bit, to cast the thoughts of self doubt out and looks back up to listen more intently.

Thasha waddles over with the group with a huge grin on his face, and all his new weapons bouncing as he walks. "I hoped they would put me with you Silvermasque. You're probably my favorite."

Re: Tolkeen : Chapter 12 -- Squad Two

A certain amount of challenge from a newly assigned subordinate with plenty of experience from their own is entirely to be expected, and 'Masque no more acknowledges it than he does the fact that not everyone is in uniform, instead taking a deep draw on his cigar as he nods back to Settle, "Point will likely be switching out fair bit, but hovercycle could be good. Will add to team's mobility, and I am liking that." he rumbles, accepting the data transfer from Leckie to his little palmtop PC with one hand while he returns the salute gravely with another, "Khorosho. Granted."

Jack now, Jack's lack of a salute doesn't bother 'Masque one whit since out here in the field that sort of thing can get a man shot at, and if the repeated offer for the dragon to go airborne results in a tip of the heat that would suggest eye-rolling on someone who had eyes, it's at least answered with a warm "You are just not wanting to get boots dirty like rest of us. But like I was saying, best keep low unless we are needing eye in sky. Invisibility is not lasting long, or so I was being told..." - which reply 'Masque pauses as he's about to add to before looking at Signal and inquiring curiously, "If you were having sensor box, could you be picking up signals, sweeping for radar, all that? Am thinking we are having good way to put you into air if Jack is willing and you would not mind riding on back of Dragon..?"
, the big 'merc looking between the two soldiers curiously, breaking off only to beam as Thasha rolls over, slapping the hulking Greot lightly on the shoulder and admonishing to "Shush, you will be making my head swell. But is good to be have your firepower, I am hoping is good way to be moving you around quickly carrying it too."

Signal turns to the dragon, "Well that is entirely up to you, fine creature. But do know, if you start getting shot at I am liable to dive off."

Na-Wa didn't much understand a lot of the talk going on. The Big White Cat would probably want Na-Wa to look for magic people and things.

Until the group left Na-Wa kept himself and Silonar away from the group, just in case Silonar was hungry.

"How many dragons are in the company? I thought you guys would be a bunch of walking coffins. Pleasure to meet you Jack." Her attitude completely changed at the surprise of working with a dragon. Although it would probably be back very soon, and much worse...
