Tyirrak stepped in, moving like he was almost sliding, or gliding across the floor, noting completely passively that he and the sheriff were the two visibly obvious non-humans, with 2nd Lt. Dyvalis's elfness a near enough approximation of everyone elses special preference.

He took position in the corner of the room, standing stock-still with his muscular tail coiled seemingly lazily around his ankles. He remained silent during the proceedings.

Lieutenant Drake walks casually in to the boardroom and takes a seat along with the others at the table. He leans forward putting both elbows on the table - not becoming of a usual officer - but then Tolkeen doesn't have "usual" officers. Except maybe for Major Cyclops.

Drake says nothing as he enters - he just takes his seat and waits for this meeting to get underway - diplomacy was never his strong point.

(NPC'd - Drake has about a week before I turn him into an NPC permanently along with his other characters - Ahnaka Kale, and Jeran - he has not logged into Rpol since the 12th of May)

Captain Shira walks in - seemingly talking to himself but it eventualy becomes apparent he is likely talking to the oversized tarantula on his shoulder.

Which is more insane...? talking to himself or a spider...?

"I agree my friend - no matter what happens you will not perish here. I suggest you let me do the talking now - this shouldn't take long."

Sorkhan takes a seat next to the Major, and the large spider disappears into the shifters' shirt - the bulge can be seen moving down his chest and under his arm to somwhere n his back.

Lieutenant Lynn walks into the room with a graceful stride not unlike that of a predatory animal. The road dust is gone from her garments and she is fresh and clean obviously having taken advantage of the cleanse spell. Her comely face is mostly hidden by the voluminous hood of her silk robe. As she approaches she gives the Major a formal salute and stands near a seat at the end of the table directly across from him. She will remain standing unless someone pulls the chair out for her or the Major tells her to have a seat.

“Lieutenant, may I ask why you are having gallows constructed? I don’t believe such a device is necessary, if I wanted somebody executed I'd let the Brodkil have their way with them."

Before he would have never made such a statement, but being held in CS captivity and losing ones eye had made him somewhat cynical, besides the Brodkil would have to be kept happy from time to time....

I have a few internal matters within second platoon that need to be worked out if we are to function at maximum efficiency that is all. I will be sure to adhere to the complete revised code of military justice recently approved by King Creed and the Circle of Twelve. I will also include any such actions in my weekly reports to you. But I have wasted enough of everyones time this meeting is not about 2nd platoon. I can handle my charges." She finishes up looking directly across the table at Dyvalis. Though the gaze would likely not bother someone of his stature lesser men would whither under its intensity.

Just make sure you do it outside of town so no innocent Tolkeenites get injured or killed. If they do I will kill you all myself." Turning her radio off she smiles again. "Please continue Mayor. Now for the other part, Zor thought “As for not allowing people to leave, myself and my people do not know who is a spy and who is not."

"You ever hear of Hillcrest? I know you have.”

“The Coalition had spies in that town up the very minute they assaulted it, and we didn’t even know. Because we allowed people t come and go the Coalition knew about the town’s defenses and was able to defeat them.”

"And I’m sure you know Hillcrest is no more, in fact the man who claims to have masterminded the of Hillcrest took this.” tapping the bandage over his empty left eye socket as he says this last part.

Hre comment is obviosuly aimed towards the Major. "I do hope that this meeting has some purpose other than to assuage the fears of the towns leadership. I have never been very subtle and that is why I am a military woman and not a politician. I have read all the reports regarding Pluto Company and the only thing that seems to keep the majority of them from being executed is their astounding success in the field. While I anticipate the same success from my men I will not tolerate the sort of lax discipline and foolishness that precedes this outfit. I will allow you to set up a fortification - I have also assured Tolkeen that we have some able fighters should we be attacked. The group is a small, but strong 19 members. But you cannot permit people from leaving.... that is their freedom. But you can instate, a rule, that I will help enforce - that they cannot return, should they choose to leave the city borders.

Zor stroked his beard, an uncommon trait among Atlaneans, and thought about Mayor’s Bartaine’s compromise. He ignores Lt Lynn for a moment, well at least verbally. He does however raise his finger in her directions, indicating for her to wait.

“You are suggesting we allow people to leave but not return. Does this mean we will not allow any new arrivals to enter MadTown?”

“If that is the case then that is acceptable. I would also prefer that any non-combatants be evacuated. I know this is their homes but what good is a home if your dead? A home or even an entire town can be rebuilt, but once a life is lost it will never return.”
Granted there were magical ways to return one to life, but it was extremely rare.

“Lieutenant, I said non-combatants should be evacuated, those who are able to fight are more then welcome to defend their homes. The reason they should be evacuated is that the less non-combatants we have here when the CS attacks the less manpower we will have to devote to the defense of non-combatants.”

With the help of your 19 able fighters our sergeants can get recruitment and training underway. We can devide the training into about 3 basic levels: standard combattants, magic combattants, and psionic combattants, with the possibility of specialized sub-groups of supernatural, robot or tank pilots, etc. The sooner we get the town cleared out and begin training the better off we'll be."

Zor sighs and reply to the Mayor, thinking to himself: This man must be a weak leader if he cannot order his non-combatants to evacuate. Then saying out loud.

“Mayor my manpower resources are limited, therefore my people, and the militia will not assist in evacuating those citizen who choose to evacuate at the last minute as the Coalition begins their attack. Your sheriff and his group of what twenty men? Can handle that, this makes the issue of evacuating those who chose not to leave no longer my problem once the battle begins, it will you and your sheriffs problem Mayor.”

“So I highly suggest you order all non-combatants to evacuate before the Coalition comes.”

Shira receives his scroll and looks it over in amazement as he stares at a real metropolos scroll. Fires of power burn in his eyes.

"Sir, to be clear as I am not experienced in fighting against the Coalition as you are. If we were attacked now, the platoons, Madtown Militia, demons and Salvation Army hold their positions while the CS throws whatever they have at us. Which will probably start with missiles and artillery, during which we all hide. After that they will probably use airstrikes, during which we hide. If anyone is still alive when they send in ground troops to take the town we fight, assuming if they wanted the town destroyed we would all be dead already. Everybody holds their ground, until ordered to fallback by HQ. And we continue fighting and dying and falling back as the Coalition pushes on. And in the end if the Coalition pulls off their attack, and we still have anybody left, then we have won. For a few days until they send reinforcements..."

Unsuccessful she laughs aloud,  a deep belly laugh that has a disturbing otherworldy quality to it like more than one person laughing at the same time. Grasping the scroll in her fist she gives Karno a respectful nod rather than a salute. "Thank you Major I will see to it." She is already turning and walking towards the door when Ra sends his transmission. She is quick to reply using Second Platoons frequency spouting orders into the small radio before she is even out of the building.

"Understood Ra. Fall back to our lines. I repeat... fall back to our lines. Sekhmet and Thoth fall back as well. Attention Second Platoon everyone to your places. "

He is, in fact still looking to Jelme throughout the wait for questions to answer his question about the briefing, since the other mercenary was presumably around for it... Once he gets some sort of answer of course, there might be a question to ask.

Like 'shouldn't there be a briefing, or maybe a plan?' - Sadly however, the big tiger is neither prescient nor psychic, and can't know just yet precisely how shambolic things are shaping up to be.

"Say rather concerned at lack of things." he admits, rephrasing some of the conversation between himself and Jelme into a more... diplomatic format. "There are being some issues with unit coordination, fire support, fallback order, logistics and communications that have not been addressed. I have tried to raise them with Headquarters several times but." - his spreads his upper two arms in an eloquent shrug, "They have been busy I am assuming, nichevo."

"I do not think we are needing eloquent war-of-maneuver plans even if we could be forming them, but just knowing who will fall back, when, and by what route could save lives and increase confidence if is known in advance - will make militiamen and soldiers feel like they are working to plan, not just being hammered on like paper anvil."

"My biggest single concern though is supply - I have laid in ammunition for fire support, but if fighting gets heavy I can expect each soldier in line to burn through two clips every minute they survive. Each man has own loads - one unit of fire per man - and I have had no response from HQ to my efforts to arrange more, but even assuming zero casualties and one hundred percent hits, most of Fourth will be combat ineffective in five to ten minutes after first engagement depending on density of targets."

So we are being left to assume direct attack, whether bombardment or ground or both." the large Mercenary replies simply with a smile, relegating the world of 'boom' to a back-burner as nothing he can affect.

There's a low growl from the oversized 'borg when the matter of communications comes up however, but rather than enter into an exchange of insults he simply states the facts without resorting to unprofessional put-downs. "I have tried to contact headquarters on average twice a day since arrival, on log, both to make reports and to raise other issues. Have received no response at any point from direct request or radio message - if you are looking for those needing to have hands held, I am respectfully suggesting that you begin closer to home. In absence of higher authority I have prepared positions, obtained supplies, assigned patrols and done what drills we can manage, but cannot make up for neglect by command in big issues."

He shrugs, again dismissing the matter, "Is water under bridge however - perhaps I should have walked up to front door and demanded to be heard rather than trying to work through official channels, but I was making assumption that decisions were being made and we would be informed when time was needed." - again, another shrug, "Is not so much can be done now however - I have copy of fallback plans for Fourth Platoon and fire support calls for anyone in range of my command post if neighbours are wanting to see them. Need for interview with boss can wait longer I think, and posting Lotus to other team will have to wait until tomorrow if she is being alive, but am needing to question ammunition resupply to trenches."

He grimaces, visibly, "Main question, our intentions and responses in case of most likely Coalition attack patterns based on prexisting experience I already know answer to, more is pity... I am only wishing someone had thought to hold conference like this day, two days ago."

"Minefields, field booby traps and instant foxhole charges, one per man." 'Masque replies almost absently as he reaches into a BDU pocket for the two progress chips, one to a day that he completed for handing in to an almost entirely absent command structure, before his head jerks up suddenly at something Dyvalis suggested.

"Have bought all ammunition can afford, was operating under assumption that... ah... foraging in friendly territory was short way to dancing hemp fandango." - by way of expression the large 'borg lifts one hand to flex fingers about his massive neck, adding "But I am thinking you would maybe be needing to use tow chain."

"If is being okay with you however, is being damn' good idea, youbet. Maybe we can be getting additional heavy weapons to round out rifle squads with." - as he speaks, he's slotting first one, then the second chip into his computer and spinning it on one stock-still lower hand to extend it towards Dyvalis.

 ---

As far as I can tell everything 'Masque was originally intending to build is built. As a bonus there's dozens of 'tank trap' pits out in the woods in front of 4th Platoon, about ten feet below ground level - anything more than a couple of tonnes is going *down*, fast.

'Masques fireplans for the fight involve three *very* simple fast-and-loose scenarios with the note that 'in the case of a bombardment followed by an armoured thrust with infantry support and lots of air-mobile RPA, put head between legs and kiss ass goodbye' tagged 'not for general release'. They run as follows:

 Case Alpha
Bombardment followed by infantry ground attack with armoured support.

Hold the line, shoot your guns dry, fall back by squads whenever flanked or enemy approach to within a hundred yards of the line, using shoot-and-scoot tactics, hold at second line until further orders.

 Case Beta
Bombardment followed by massive air-mobile landing of Coalition troops behind lines.

Hold bunkers, uncover firing ports on all sides, fight as best you can whilst select regular military units (the Mercs) try to winkle 'em out.

 Case Gamma
Bombardment (sense a pattern here?) followed by armoured thrust to break defensive line.

Hold bunkers on flank of thrust and pour in enfildaing fire, retreat by squads only if flanked on both sides, fall back under coverign fire if thrust is coming right for you, hold at second line.

And are obviously intended more to make sure that the various disparate forces in his charge are all playing from the same book than much anything else.

A well trained and equipped army. Their main targets are D-Bee bandits and inhuman marauders. They have killed thousands of outlaws, but also innocents that question their judgement or aliens who could not communicate.

Entire towns have been massacred by the Cavalry under the leadership of General Kenneth Sprite, or "The Crying Death" as the natives call him because he is rumored to weep after delivering his justice.

Typically travel in squads of 10-12 men.

Rumored to be a Coalition sympathiser, although they have never fought together, they are not enemies.

We will head south east to a Coalition outpost. As usual Squad Three, and with the help of two, will head inside the outpost and activate a biological weapon. Squad two and three will then retreat towards a safe point where squad four will cover their escape.

The dragons and squad one will be attacking a specific airship also at this location.

There is one very important detail men. This outpost is built in a civilian community. Although these people are technically Tolkeen citizens, they are Coalition supporters. This weapon should kill everyone inside the town, and is designed to eventually plague their hospitals.

They are very small in size, like a crystal ball. You can easily conceal them, and pass them off as magic devices of some other sort.

They will bond to your minds, and then you will be able to activate them remotely with a single thought. Just make sure all of our men are nowhere near the outpost when they go off. The effects will be devastating.

The device will 'infect' a kilometer radius from each device almost instantly. Squad Four will remain at this distance, and you will have to retreat this far before you activate the weapons.

Each of Drano and Portia are to select 2 back up personnel to take over this task should they be lost in the field. Inform your troops that these devices must be carried on to the destination target, and to report to Major Karno if they take on the role weapon-bearer. He will inform them of their new duties and of the scope of the mission at hand.

-----------------------

The renegade Tolkeen group has approximately 50 members. They are lead by Captain Theodore Kitt, and his second in command Lieutenant Dragana Kovacevic. They are both shifter-mages and none of them have any trouble killing Tolkeen soldiers. They firmly believe we are the enemy, and will stop at nothing to ensure the Coalition victory.

Their troops consist of :

7-8 other mages (line walkers, warlocks, necromancer etc)
3-4 full conversion cyborgs
Drake - a seasoned mind melter
2 Dragon Fly Juggernauts
6-7 Battle Mages
Renszath - A former politician - Raksasha Demon
10 various rifle men
5 master psychics (bursters, zappers etc)
6 summoned gargoyles
2 Mystic Knights
1 High Magus, and his Colossus Automaton from Dweomer (this giant war machine will help give us their position).

Even though a couple characters are MIA

Some will be returning...

These are the current squad listings... feel free to re-arrange

I am trying to keep 6 PCs on each squad, and also keep Players who have two PCs on opposite squads.

Also to keep the GBs together (they were designed to stay together)

And finally to try to keep some of the 'good ol' boys' together (Silvermasque, Van, Mephisto, Lotus).

That'll work when Dyvalis returns. Daemonis is also en route to the rendez-vous point. He can cast Fly like an Eagle on himself as well and be there when Tam & Thasha arrive.

How many minutes until this CS/Ishpeming battle from the time the Dropship was captured? I'm thinking of bringing back Dyvalis on the basis that he sees Mephisto hand Amy his frog and knows him to be a shifter and thus have a familiar on board. That work?

Portia arrived at the rally point in 2 minutes - it has been maybe 10 minutes since then

The dropship was captured 10 minutes ago and is still traveling.

Ya that works - Dyvalis can assume the frog is good enough, and return.

I thought Daemonis was teleporting...

Re: Officers

Here are my suggestions for character reorganization into two platoons:

I was trying to consider the following:

1. Ensure players with two characters are split between each platoon
2. Each platoon has a lieutenant and a sergeant from the TDF
3. Each platoon has some supernatural creatures
4. Each platoon has a couple dedicated mages (I don't count mystic knights)
5. Ensure the balance of psychotic-evil characters was mitigated with the presence of some genuine heros.

#1 must always be decided based on OOC information, but #2 - #5 could actually be decided based on in-character knowledge.

Also, I realize that all the mech is in 2nd Platoon (Glitter Boys, Silvermasque, Dragonfly) and it occurred to me that it might be more effective tactically to do this, although depending on the details of our missions, this part can change.  Note also that 1st Platoon has both of the summoners (Nuitari and Mephisto).

Creating two cookie-cutter platoons is more boring :)

Works for me, well except for being under Dyvalis' command, which on current record is sooner or later going to cause Problems.

Mixing good guys and bad guys is fine and all, but we've endlessly and repeatedly fucked up almost every job we've been sent on lately because we've a couple of people playing heroes and a couple of people playing psychopaths and we end up squabbling amongst ourselves instead of Doing The Job.

I can't help but wonder if it wouldn't be easier just to give the nutjobs a ball to bounce or something and send them off 'over there' to get on with it. ^_^

Yeah I thought about that too actually.  Nuitari is already in the process of warning the cyberknights of the problems this group has had and he's going to have a little pow-wow with Dyvalis and warn him that if he continues using 4D transformation, Silvermasque will be given command.

That might happen anyway if Moloch demotes Dyvalis...

Regardless, Dyvalis is the reason I put all the cyberknights on this platoon.  Comartin too, actually.

Dyvalis will be getting demoted. Silvermasque will be in command after that.

Also, there aren't too many psychos left. Dyvalis and Comartin I believe is all...

Then there are the middle-range like Lotus and Mephisto. But they haven't caused much grief at all.

Also, Amaya and Loo will not be joining until Amaya's player has internet at home. (Loo is an NPC designed to travel with her).

And the Juggernaut is obviously not in the group just yet...

It may be wise to get the mystic knights opposite of the cyber knights. Niles already said there will be trouble in a PM.

That's a good point.

Sergeant Fanel or Dyvalis it will have to be then. As Sergeant Pierce is the other CS commander.

Oddly enough Van and Dyvalis are the same player.

But Dyvalis got himself labelled a coward/psycho. Silvermasque and McCloud will likely not want to work with him.

Also, you could split up the Glitter Boys, McCloud doesn't like Comartin very much...

We could have McCloud promoted to Sergeant - which would explain why they are being separated. It would be awkward to have McCloud in charge of Pierce though... his former commander...

Maybe swap Drano with Na-Wa, and we can put McCloud in charge of 2nd P.

Re: Officers

Heh, I've previously considered having Lotus go for some kind of leadership role.  Although as I'm playing both her and Nuitari, I'm not sure I want command of two units as well.  What about promoting Sgt. Van?

Regarding the mix of mystic knights and cyberknights, I was thinking about that as well.  However, I felt it important to put the cyberknights in the same group as Dyvalis and Comartin.  With Dyvalis in charge, that would have meant he couldn't be in the same squad as Nuitari and therefor Lotus had to be in the same squad as Dyvalis.

Niles is already separated from the cyberknights.  Personally, I think I can have some fun with Lotus rubbing shoulders with three cyberknights without getting out of hand.  The cyberknights aren't likely to actually start a fight until they witness Lotus commit some crime, so as long as she behaves they should keep their distance.  Lotus might be capable of some nasty things, but she's disciplined and smart enough to play nice in public.

I also felt like separating Niles and Lotus since they are both the exact same OCC except he is also supernatural and so he can pretty much do everything she can, only a bit better.

I see you got a post in just before me there...

Can we have a Sergeant in charge of 2nd platoon without a lieutenant?  If so, then I vote McCloud gets a promotion, if his player is cool with that.  Then we swap Drano and Na-Wa.

I was going to suggest giving Sgt. Van Fanel a field commission as Lieutenant and give him 2nd Platoon, but then I remembered that Van is only 17 years old and would be pushing my suspension of disbelief too far...

But Van hasn't demonstrated any leadership abilities whatsoever...

McCloud would be in an effort in keeping the psyhcos in line. Van would be good for that too... it just doesn't seem right to promote Van into leadership for no real reason.

McCloud hasn't really demonstrated leadership either.

Another OOC option would be for me to issue a new commander for 2nd P as well (NPC) and then have him killed shortly. At which point someone receives a field promotion (Van or McCloud).

I could even PM them both to let them know - in case one isn't interested.

McCloud is very interested in command - so that will be how it ends up.

Perhaps switch COmartin for Keth.

That keeps Comartin and Drano together - Nuitari to keep them in line. It also seperates Comartin and McCloud.

It actually also spaces out the PAs.

My intention is to completely split the threads as well - there will be times when exchanges can be made - but most of the time you will not be interacting unless over the radio.

I'm cool with that. Rest assured though that Dyvalis will only get worse. I'll avoid messing up the missions, but I've been plotting Dyvalis' decent into madness and you have to admit those 4D transformations are a useful tool. It's wise that he's no longer in a leadership role. Van too. Frankly I don't really have the time to invest in leadership. I'm happy with them both being Sergeants, but Dyvalis will be pretty bent out of shape about it.

These squads of course won't take effect until we bust in and grab our people. Poor PCs. Getting kidnapped can be so boring.
