Re: C7 : Officers

Bartaine stands to address everyone in the boardroom.

"Thank you for coming everyone - but this is a matter that interests all of us. For we have specifically told Tolkeen that we do not need their help in this war. We havent made any threats to the Coalition - and have not built any defensive structures - we are hoping the skull-faces will simply pass us by.

Are you serious when you say nobody can leave - and they face detainment or deadly force???"

Re: C7 : Officers

"Let me enlighten you mayor," Dyvalis chimes in hautily, "You are in the war zone, and the Coalition is on a campaign of expansion. There is no sitting on the fence, they will destroy you unless you are loyal to them -- and with a population consisting of vastly non-humans I think it's a pretty safe bet that you are not the kind of sympathizers they're looking for, so I suggest you let us do our job and get this place ready for the inevitable fight that is coming to your doorstep."

Re: C7 : Officers

Portia looks annoyed at being bothered again during the meeting. She pauses biting her bottom lip in an attempt to quell the rage building up inside her. After a deep breath she smiles at everyone and makes her brief reply. "By all means any of you in 2nd platoon who wish to kill one another do so with my complete support. Just make sure you do it outside of town so no innocent Tolkeenites get injured or killed. If they do I will kill you all myself." Turning her radio off she smiles again. "Please continue Mayor. I believe you were at the part where your pleas were falling upon deaf ears."

Re: C7 : Officers

Zor looks at Bartaine after his two subordinates have spoken. “As my officers have stated the Coalition will make their way here and kill anyone who they believe is not as they put it ‘a pure breed human’ , and those who are considered ‘a pure breed human’ will be killed simply for living near those who are not.”

Now for the other part, Zor thought “As for not allowing people to leave, myself and my people do not know who is a spy and who is not."

"You ever hear of Hillcrest? I know you have.”

“The Coalition had spies in that town up the very minute they assaulted it, and we didn’t even know. Because we allowed people t come and go the Coalition knew about the town’s defenses and was able to defeat them.”

"And I’m sure you know Hillcrest is no more, in fact the man who claims to have masterminded the of Hillcrest took this.” tapping the bandage over his empty left eye socket as he says this last part.

Re: C7 : Officers

Portia had since turned off her radio but the calls of her subordinates are easily heard over the other radios. She smiles a tight lipped smile so bitter that the sight of it might make ones mouth pucker up. "To quote my illustrious Grackle Tooth mercenary. "With all due respect sir..." Hre comment is obviosuly aimed towards the Major. "I do hope that this meeting has some purpose other than to assuage the fears of the towns leadership. I have never been very subtle and that is why I am a military woman and not a politician. I have read all the reports regarding Pluto Company and the only thing that seems to keep the majority of them from being executed is their astounding success in the field. While I anticipate the same success from my men I will not tolerate the sort of lax discipline and foolishness that precedes this outfit. If this meeting is to have some manner of logistical importance can we please cut through the pleasantries to the business at at hand. If it does not then I request to be excused so I can go and attend to my charges."

Re: C7 : Officers

Ignoring Portia Bartaine replies to Karno and Dyvalis.

"This is what Tolkeen has been telling me... I still don't believe the Coalition are on a path of genocide, but I cannot have that blood on my hands if they truly are. on such a campaign. I will allow you to set up a fortification - I have also assured Tolkeen that we have some able fighters should we be attacked. The group is a small, but strong 19 members. But you cannot permit people from leaving.... that is their freedom. But you can instate, a rule, that I will help enforce - that they cannot return, should they choose to leave the city borders.

Re: C7 : Officers

Zor stroked his beard, an uncommon trait among Atlaneans, and thought about Mayor’s Bartaine’s compromise. He ignores Lt Lynn for a moment, well at least verbally. He does however raise his finger in her directions, indicating for her to wait.

“You are suggesting we allow people to leave but not return. Does this mean we will not allow any new arrivals to enter MadTown?”

“If that is the case then that is acceptable. I would also prefer that any non-combatants be evacuated. I know this is their homes but what good is a home if your dead? A home or even an entire town can be rebuilt, but once a life is lost it will never return.”
Granted there were magical ways to return one to life, but it was extremely rare.

Xion nods in agreement, "Excuse me for a moment sir. But, do they not deserve the chance to fight for their homes? I know that I for one, would defend my home to the death. I think we should offer them a choice, sir."

Re: C7 : Officers

Zor responds to Xion, the Elf had a good point, thus he explained why he wanted the non-combatants to be evacuated.

“Lieutenant, I said non-combatants should be evacuated, those who are able to fight are more then welcome to defend their homes. The reason they should be evacuated is that the less non-combatants we have here when the CS attacks the less manpower we will have to devote to the defense of non-combatants.”

Re: C7 : Officers

Dyvalis nods. "I agree. This is a military town now, and unless they are malitia or their specific function is necessary to the war effort then they should not be here until the conflict is over. With the help of your 19 able fighters our sergeants can get recruitment and training underway. We can devide the training into about 3 basic levels: standard combattants, magic combattants, and psionic combattants, with the possibility of specialized sub-groups of supernatural, robot or tank pilots, etc. The sooner we get the town cleared out and begin training the better off we'll be."

"If they want to stay and not fight... then they can fucking stay and die in their homes when the Coaltion come. Allow us to move past this annoying detail and discuss how the Coalition will attack, where will they attack from? Where is their Recon? we need defenses, patrols, and a system to uncover spies and special forces - I don't feel like getting assassinated..."

"If they get recon from an outside source, like for instance astral travellers, I believe the diabolist in our platoon should be able to safeguard against that. As for inside informants, I say we need to thoroughly screen our militia applicants, either by use of magic or drugs, to make sure we can trust the fighters we have -- and yes, I recommend a certain level of racial profiling, with humans and psi-stalkers being considered the most likely spies."

OOC -- In terms of order of people talking, I don't want to wait for that anymore. In character I might've waited for Bartaine to speak, but OOC I'm just trying to get things rolling. (AKA, don't detract XP bitch!)

"2nd platoon can handle all interviews and interrogations sir." Portia says more to the Major than anyone else. She is no longer checking her watch and seems much more relaxed as though she just mind up her mind to calm down and then did it.

Bartaine:

Zor sighs and reply to the Mayor, thinking to himself: This man must be a weak leader if he cannot order his non-combatants to evacuate. Then saying out loud.

“Mayor my manpower resources are limited, therefore my people, and the militia will not assist in evacuating those citizen who choose to evacuate at the last minute as the Coalition begins their attack. Your sheriff and his group of what twenty men? Can handle that, this makes the issue of evacuating those who chose not to leave no longer my problem once the battle begins, it will you and your sheriffs problem Mayor.”

“So I highly suggest you order all non-combatants to evacuate before the Coalition comes.”

Portia Lynn:
"2nd platoon can handle all interviews and interrogations sir."

“Lieutenant only prisoners and suspected spies are to be interrogated. Spies will be executed, and fed to the demons or those creatures who like to eat flesh.”

“As Dyvalis has mentioned utilize magic during your interviews, and yes racial profiling is acceptable.”
