Re: OOC III

Somewhere, I think it's in the Tolkeen campaign books, there's also a few lines about how ley-lines and a lack of satellites have made long-range communication very difficult. So while you can have super-robot AIs and powerful targeting computers... there is no analog for the internet, because the infrastructure is impossible to set up.

Re: OOC III

I meant to use the IPod/ITouch thing more as an indicator of what kind of storage was capable in a small device moreso than what kind of connectivity it had to the web.  With that kind of storage, you almost don't need the web.

Imagine an ITouch with 6.4 Tb's (100 x 64 Gb's) available.  That is a lot of information.  And that is conservative!

In reply to McCloud (msg #978):

Probably not. I'm looking at things like the Coalition War Campaign p37 that talks about the regular army corps and p42 that talks about their doctrine and training.

Hell, even the early Tolkeen books after a bloated recruitment campaign from the 'burbs talks about the equipment, training and logistical support provided to those 'burb trash' personnel - it's only experience that they lack.

Re: OOC III

Like Sarai said Mutt, not only is an I.Q. of 8 not necessarily that stupid, you actually have training. I mean proper, indoctrination-level training that includes a lot of firearms proficiencies for which lesson one, and I mean if you don't learn lesson one, lesson two is as a man-sized target, is basic safety.

But there's nothing 'wrong' with the call you made, only that it's not exactly going to make Nate want to keep Mutt as a machine gunner. ^_^

In reply to Nathanial William Jericho (msg #984):

As for CS force size near the end some 300,000 show up to kill Tolkeen from the north and they we 400,000 when they were cut off and driven into the bug lands.

That was close to 1/2.  That is a huge army.

Side note anyone excited about the new Vampire lands updated book?

Also the Canadan book seems full of new D Bees.  is it worth the price?

In reply to Nathanial William Jericho (msg #986):

Um... There is definitely something wrong with firing an automatic weapon on a military base for no reason. Wasting military resource. Endangering the lives of follow troops. Destroying CS property. Especially when you're in a position where being disobedient/a problem means you get euthanized like an unruly dog...

Re: OOC III

Sloth: Unless it involves intimidating people, rough-housing, sports,
a challenge, beating up people, fighting, hunting or killing, the Kill
Hound isn't interested. This means work and assignments involving the
mundane are either ignored entirely or done quickly and sloppily. Some
Kill Hounds are so lazy about "details," as they call them, that they forget
to pack sufficient food rations, water, a key piece of equipment, or
extra ammunition before they go on a mission. Likewise, Kill Hounds
often "forget" details of an assignment. This is not deliberate, their genetic
make-up, intelligence and instincts are such that they forget details
and complex instructions, instead remembering the "essence" of what
needs to be done, especially the fighting part. Consequently, it is wise
for an officer to check their gear before they leave and keep Kill Hound
assignments simple, linear (A-B-C-the end) and uncluttered with "details

You know how many steps there are to do a 240B functions check?

there are 8 steps, Now imagine a weapon with a battery pack? how many steps do you think it would take? I would go with quiet a few more.

You told him to make sure the weapons work whats the easiest way to tell if a weapon works? YOU load it and fire it

Im just playing the character by the description in the book. Pluss it makes the game more intresting.

Now if you explain it to him im sure this would only happen once and once you let Mutt know your standard he will follow it, but if you dont he will do it to his standard.

Re: OOC III

That's why I said it's not unfair. It's 'stupid' for a given value of in character stupid, but it is in character. On the other hand it's also not unexpected for an officer more used to Dog Boys than Kill Hounds to expect a response other than discharging a railgun burst into the armoury bunker.

I'm not complaining OOCly, just making dead sure you knew that it was the sort of thing that like Serai says, would contribute (in due course, and not without a lot more incidents) to a nice padded room and being asked if you can see the bunnies. ^_^

Re: OOC III

There's a difference between forgetting small bits of equipment and endangering the lives of fellow soldiers.

I understand you're trying to play in character. So are we. No one's mad.

Frankly, after I read the kill hound description in the lone star book (a few days ago) I thought it was pretty ridiculous. What military would want such a loose cannon? I don't care how powerful it is. If it endangers a mission, for any reason, then it's a liability, not an asset.

Re: OOC III

lol, no this is a traing lesson to people not use to working with Killhounds. they literally need a step by step instruction on what do do, that and the IQ is really low he should have a handler like most of them do. Read the feral section on these animals. Im just going by the book on how this character is played, I will act how they want me too thats not the point in the begining im playing a lvl 1 Killhound taken out of his very structured enviroment and dumped here, a couple of more of these and he will get the hang of it.

Re: OOC III

Americans are more trigger happy in general than citizens of virtually all, if not every, nation.

That being said, it is also not unheard of to do test fires with live ammunition.  There are usually set areas to do it, but we did test fires of our weapons every time we left the wire in Iraq.  There was a nice big pile of dirt right outside the Forward Operating Base that we put a dozen rounds into every time we rolled out.

Re: OOC III

yup, I knew full well OOC wise that this would land mutt into trouble I did this as  character development, He is just a pup and would make dumb mistakes, better to assign him somebody on his team as a Battle buddy to watch out for him and he will learn from them quickly. Once i figure he gets about a half of a level more exp he would stop being childish. I develope my characters in-game. I think a big full of  testosterone Male killhound who has the mentality of a child still would make dumb mistakes. He has a good heart and I will play him as a true blue I love humanity and the CS soldiers are my best friend too but I haven't gotten a chance to yet.

He clearly did't put anybodies life in danger by ppointing the weapon at the BASE of the wall where nobody was by and fired into the ground and the lower part of the wall, he was just eager to please his new "Booss".  I knew full well that this post would cause a shit storm it adds more to the story I think than your cookie cutter outfit.

Re: OOC III

The Kill Hound in my game does similar stuff - though he has learned to do self penance which ends up being hillarious. He also has a different issue - he's prone to fits of rage, not sloth. He is also a bit more fun loving than Mutt. Of course it's also a matter of experiences. Mutt has had the worst possible thing happen to him, the loss of his pack. That's a big hurdle for a dogboy, especially a killhound.

But then again, killhounds are trouble, no matter what. :) That's what makes them such interesting characters.

So a question for the GM - where do we need to post our equipment?

Re: OOC III

Post your gear in your character sheet - that will be your standard stuff.

Any newly acquired vehicles and weapons assigned to you can be added there as well.

I will likely post something so everyone has a better picture of what everyone else os using for transportation.

Eventually I imagine you guys getting 'decorated' and appreciated enough to have your own private wing quarters in the base. Your own hangar bay and your own mechanics. Which will have room to stare all your fun toys, extra PAs, vehicles not being used and the like.

Re: OOC III

Well it seems there were 3 votes to have 2 or 3 OOC threads and 2 votes to keep it as 1 thread.

I tend to agree with Lotus - that it will soon level out and wont be so many posts in OOC.

I also agree with Van that most strategy type posts should be done IC.

So far I am leaning to just keeping the one thread.

Ok I will close this one and open 2 new ones. Everyone will have access to both - but you don't have to read the other factions OOC thread if you don;t want to.

Feel free to post and read both if you want to as well.
