Re: The OOC Strikes Back
March, 2017.

We almost made 15 years.  :D

An honor and a privilege, to say the least.  And yes, gaming with everyone.  Without any one of the others, I would not have had the tale I received.

And special thanks to you, for being the creator, the facilitator, the inspiration...for everything.

I have loved this story.  I still do.

Re: The OOC Strikes Back
Hello Dworkin, Hello Cyan,

The story is over, but the game is open, so I thought I might pop in to congratulate you on your achievement and express something of my gratitude to you both.

This game is still the benchmark of role-playing for me; the consistent excellence of your writing and story-telling gave me great pleasure over many years.

I'm both deeply honoured that you kept James around to the end and very sorry that I wasn't on hand to see it.  I still think I made the right decision in pulling out but I have often thought of you and fondly remembered some highlights from the game.  With Dworkin, some of James' grand scenes: the healing of the unicorn and the charge of Kolvir; and creating a world almost from scratch.  With Cyan, the heart of James' story: the private thread introducing Cyan to James' mind space and, of course, the dance in the forest.

I've tried a couple of times to read the Amber archives but I've always got bogged down part way through.  I doubt I'll make a third attempt but I'm glad it'll be there.  I may yet read back for the time I missed, to close out the story for James, but I'm not sure.  At best it would be with aching heart and the ending now is Cyan's as it was always meant to be.

I will pop back in a couple of days in case you either of you see this and want to reply, but for now I wish you all the best.  May your own stories be full of joy.

To the best Renegade Lord of Chaos and my Lady of Rainbows,

James

Re: The OOC Strikes Back
Hello my friend, it's good to hear from you again.  You are missed.

Yes, the story is finished, but I do intend to archive the entire game as I get time.  I've been downloading threads, but the uploading is the part I've had issues with.  It generally goes like this...
  1. Open thread.
  2. Start tidying it up.
  3. Read a well-remembered post.
  4. Get distracted by reading the whole thread.
  5. Also read the next thread.
  6. Realise that I don't have time to finish uploading that day.
  7. Rinse and repeat...
  :)

Lot of memories in this game.

I hope all is going well with you and yours.

Re: The OOC Strikes Back
Hello, James!  :D

It's with great pleasure that I read your post (and big surprise!).  Thanks for dropping in!  I think this game has been the best I've seen, and like Dworkin I find it really easy to get distracted and end up reading it again, and again...then jumping to another area I remember, and read that...

I would agree that the hymn Cyan witnessed in James' mind (and the discussion therein)and the dance beneath the trees are two of my favourite scenes in the entire game.  They're standouts.  Just lovely, with a lot of emotion.  ^_^  And James helping to fix the world with the Archons, his offer to them and their acceptance...brilliant.

Plus the discussion on the riverboat, his occasional chat with Berd...

The ending of the story really isn't mine.  It might look that way, but...this story is founded on so many player's writing (and our illustrious Dworkin, to boot, without which we wouldn't have this awesome story!).  And that's what made it special.  I was just fortunate enough to be in it from the start.

I still laugh at when the 'two groups' came together, and James is thinking 'At this rate, I'm going to head into battle with my armor on backwards...'

:)

You two...I'm honoured to have had the chance to post with you both, and know you both.

Rest well, weary soldier, no longer travelling alone.

Re: The OOC Strikes Back
I agree with Cyan.  The ending was not entirely hers, it belongs to everybody who contributed.  A sword is fairly useless without an arm to wield it, an eye to aim it, a mind to plan what to do with it... and assorted squishy parts to bleed all over it.

Hmmm... not sure that last item works so well.  :p

So think of Cyan as a sword.

"Cyan, be the sword."

I had a grand old time with James as well.  Many a conversation passed where he stymied me with his honest forthrightness.

Hi Tahirah.  You'd stab me, wouldn't you?  I did let you have that nice knife.

Re: The OOC Strikes Back
Oh, in a heartbeat! Stab, shoot, poison, you name it.  Maybe all three.

..Come to think of it, you have kind of a Rasputin-y vibe about you.  It'd probably be best to throw in hanging, drowning, and then beheading, just to be sure.  Then I think I'd burn it all, and distribute the ashes amongst members of a dark sect of cultists placed in prominent positions of leadership around the world, and make `keeping these urns apart' one of their most important precepts to pass down for all time.

It sounds like a fun weekend, actually.  I'm a little busy right now with the kids starting school, but we should totally get together sometime!

Thank you!  More seriously, I still really have no idea what happened to me with this game.  Tahirah was really neat, the game was great, the writing was just... amazing.  But somehow I seriously spent... three years, it looks like, totally meaning to get back to it, and then all of the sudden.. it was too late.

The actual ending, though, literally made me tear up.  I mean, not the fact that it ended; that was sad, but awesome.  But the ending itself was beautiful, from both of you.

...I wouldn't use an adequate stabbing.  Really?  Adequate?  I wouldn't dare at all, it would need to be special.

^_^

I'm so sorry you never came back.  Time stretches out, then it kind of becomes a thing, then...  :(  I wish you had.  And that's a huge compliment you just gave, thank you!  :D

Re: The OOC Strikes Back
What's interesting is that Dworkin has set up stuff in the story he could use to make ANOTHER Amber game, easily.

Like Constance, for example.  *shudders*

...I am now picturing Dworkin staring at this post and screaming 'No!  Never again!'  ^_^
