Re: The blood of Amber

That'd be me.  Now that (I think) I have an entirely stable system, I'm trying to catch up on all my games.  Busy day today though... job interview.

Heading over there now.

I have a question. . .

And I’m sorry Aaron, I can’t resist. There is a lot happening right now behind the scenes.

If Jack is Shadow, and Aaron is substance.

When Jack was forced to beat Aaron was that Substance Abuse?

Re: The blood of Amber

Jack...that's horrid!

:)

Btw, Aaron, I really like how you're handling the 'ambush'.  Even Corwin was very leery about taking on one person with a crossbow, and you don't know how many bows there are.  Not to mention you being on open ground, rather than on a stairway where they can come at you one at a time...and you have someone to protect.  Kudos for not going the 'Enemies! Chopchopchopchop!' route I see far too often! :)

These guys don't look like they're super-robber types - ragged clothing, etc.  Maybe they'll take what they can without a fight (you can hope, right?).  ^_^

Re: The blood of Amber

Well they could always use the buggy and horse for cover.  The tough part is the kid.

However... perhaps Aaron should have asked his granddaughter if she had any tricks up her own sleeve?

I mean she is related by blood to Aaron... look at how powerful Kia was compared to her daddy?

HMM... there's an interesting match up... the battle of the offspring!

Chrissie vs. Kia.... (Aaron vs. Jack part-2 the next generation?)

My bet is on Chrissy. Her father was a cop and she is teenager still.

Hmm... yeah but Kia was "rasied by wolves"... or close enough to it! lol ;)

Also it might depend on who Chrissie's mother was.

Kia is a direct decendant of Jack and Kalika who were both powerful in their own right.

Chrissie is at best the great grand-daughter of Aaron and Ishmael was only a grandson.  The blood might get a bit diluted there.

But... there's no telling how she might have developed her abilities.  ;)

Re: The blood of Amber

Awww com’on get it right. . . Considering they are both Teenagers, they would probably become fast friends. Sitting around IM’ing each other over the cell Trump, spend great amounts of time whispering to each other while glancing at Jonnee and giggling.  And Yelling “Dad / Grandad you are such an embarrassment!  You have ruined my life!”

Now if a cat fight did ever break out over Jonnee, (I seriously doubt it would.) my bet would have to be on Kia. Those Chunchee women are dangerous and if she got that dirty fighting gene from Jack. . . Well.

Teenage petulance only wins out in bad anime shows.

Re: The blood of Amber

Well to quote Algenon from "The Importance of Being Ernest":

Jack: "I'll bet anything you want that within 10 minutes of their (Cecily and Gwendyln) meeting they'll be calling each other sister!"

Alge: "Women only do that after they've called each other an awful lot of OTHER things first."

Of course what happens if Chrissie ends up having a crush on Jack?

Then again... who's to say what "orientation" Kia and Chrissie have?
Maybe they could become MUCH more than just friends?

lol ;)

Good Question and good morning Cyan.

So if you all ban together and attack him at once you may be able to take Benedict. Go get him guys!

Re: The blood of Amber

In case you hadn't noticed, there are probably enough of us to prevent Benny from Mopping up.  The only question of is how many of us would be standing at the end, and how many of those people would be whole.

:)

Probably none, but hey, the survivors get to say they took down Benedict.

Then find out it was his shadow, and that applause comes from the real one.

Big D: Would that be the ‘CL-‘ or the ‘-AP’, or it could be the old beatnik thing of snapping fingers.

How many of you people know what L7 is? Of course if you don’t know then you probably are L7.

My questions are, who would be the first into the fray? It’s all very good that a group could beat him, but the first in is probably dead. It doesn’t do a lot of good to stand around looking menacing at him and saying we could beat you old man.

Second question would be does Benedict travel to worlds where he does not know the rules? I mean while everyone is drawing their fancy weapons he would probably pull a gun and shoot one of them.

It would be had as heck to catch him where everyone could rush him, no that’s Corwin that is so stubborn that he  keeps fighting until he is caught.

Re: The blood of Amber

Obviously, Jack.  :)  Benedict will 'cheat' (like there is cheating when your life is on the line) like mad, and probably try to keep himself OUT of such a situation.  However, recall that Corwin talks about him holding the Pass against the Moonriders out of Ghenesh (don't recall the exact spelling).  There may come times when Benedict finds he HAS to fight.

If anyone was stupid enough to say 'we could beat you, old man' likely he'd just stab that person right then and there, before anything started, to take the wind out of everyone's sails.  :)

This is a hypothetical situation, where Benedict HAS to fight, and the group of people is being halfways intelligent about engaging him (like not charging in a jumbled group).  For Warfare comparison purposes.  I was simply considering 'What version of Warfare (and thus, Benedict) do we have?'  The 'unbeatable GOD' version of warfare, or the 'better than anyone (singular) else, period'?

And, like I said, a good number of them would be dead, the rest would be maimed, injured, or at least hurt, and likely find out that they've just killed one of Benedict's shadows, and that the real one is waiting his turn.  With the remaining maimed, injured, and hurt characters, and a boatload of guards at his back.

:)

It was a Warfare question, pure and simple.  Not a 'could we take Benedict' question. :)

Sorry I haven't posted. FINALLY got the ol' laptop fixed. No more bugs, popup, or totally annoying garbage littering my computer. :D

Let's get back to the game!

Oh, on the Kia vs. Chrssie thing? I'd have to vote for family, of course. ;)
Although Aaron would be too busy selling tickets to actually bet. :P

Re: The blood of Amber

Keep in mind in the benedict debate, If he is smart enough to collapse the pass to only 1 or two people wide, he could defending it for hours or days fighting only 1-3 people at a time and defeat an army. Especially if he can deflect arrows somehow (Towershield anyone?)

Re: The blood of Amber

Well as for arrows... wouldn't it depend on whether he had the right Artifact for the job?

I mean if he knew he was going to face multitudes of archers and even sword wielding soldiers... well wouldn't he prepare by getting the right gear?

A "Resistance to Firearms" Armor (or better yet a Transferal item) should do him pretty well.  It isn't even the most powerful level of Resistance and yet it should be more than enough to protect him.

Of course this requires that his enemies have not been armed with Double Damage or Deadly Damage weapons... but then a smart general like Benedict should know how to get ahold of that intelligence.

Still... the thing about books vs. games is that if an Author WANTS someone to stay alive or wants someone to die... nothing will stop it.  Just looking for instance at the d20 stats for Rand from Wheel of Time or for Luke Skywalker from Star Wars... they should never have been able to do what they do in the books and movies based on the stats they are given by the RPG rules. ;)

I mean how much fun would the Amber books be if Corwin could NEVER defeat Benedict no matter what?  ;)
