I can't believe they said that!

Okay, here's a neat idea I'm ripping off emulating from another game.

Think one of the other characters has said something memorable?  Then post it in here, be it witty, funny, heart-warming, sad, or filled with a rage that chilled your very soul when you read it.

One rule: No quoting something your own character said, unless you're posting a section of a conversation, where the other character's smart-assedness is the main focus of the quote.

For the moment we'll restrict it to IC stuff, though I may expand it later.
Have fun.  :)

Re: I can't believe they said that!

I'll start with funny and witty, because that's the easiest to peg, months after reading it for the first time.

Jack, obviously, is the Prince of odd comments, but every now and then a circumstance comes up where he and Aaron have a little row.  Aaron, despite trying times (or should that be 'tying'?), tends to come up with some good sallies himself....

“I just think it’s so cute, the way she hog ties a prince, robbing him of the tattered remains of his dignity.”

- Jack, regarding Kalika and Aaron

“Now you gone and put me in a bind, you being all trussed up like a Christmas goose. I’m gonna have to drag your ungrateful carcass around like bloody Samsonite until she tells me I can untie you, and you don’t have any wheels.”

- Jack, to Aaron

“Ouch, that had to hurt!”
“Yes, yes it did. And I must say, Jack, you're better at hauling the dead than singing. I can judge for both."

- Jack and Aaron, again

"Kalika, I assure you, I'm not about to kill anyone at all, nor do I intend to in the near or far future.  Barring any unexpected circumstances.  I know you don't care what I'd appreciate, but I would appreciate being untied before Jack reaches those stairs."

- Aaron, still being dragged by Jack

Yes, I am a chronicler of sorts, though the information I gather is for song. And wherever the princes go, excitement follow.

Cyan nods, impressed. "Well said." She grins at the other girl. "And where the Princes of Amber go, so too does Chaos follow...."

"Your friend need not worry, he is too lean for Hunter's tastes"

Kalika to Cyan

"So what have you done, to make enemies of this land?" she asks directly, never one to conceal what's on her mind.

A simple misunderstanding regarding the ownership of some relics and artifacts, that's all. That and a few drops of spilled blood during my last visit here, or rather, during my somewhat-hasty departure. Oh, and the mysterious way that the three daughters of the family I was staying with at that time all found themselves..... er..... shall we say in a delicate condition?"
"Naturally I was blamed for that, and their father had connections at court. So, you see, it was all just misunderstandings, coincidences and circumstance."

Talk about Bold

"Hush, Berd.  Nor will I, your Highness," she states quietly.  To cover her surprise and a certain discomfort, Cyan sips at her tea.  Then she continues.  "I have no qualms of sharing this duty with others...no qualms save one.  Times past we have had difficulty with those in our group, with the lack of sharing of information.  Now, I do not wish to go back to any bargain or forcing people to tell all.  But we do need to know in whose hands we place our lives - it will be difficult enough to have such a group agree on a course of action, without knowing a little of each other.  I am not adverse to telling all of my background, all of my strengths, but I would at least know something of those with whom we travel.  Preferably from them - better that they choose what they wish to say"

Not humorous in the least....

This one holds quite a bit of pathos, and all in such a simple statement for a simple situation...

As all good regret should be.  Regret over the little losses that put the big losses into perspective.

Re: Not Actually Funny, But

And yes, Part 46 is where I get totally owned to the point where Devlin's nifty healing powers can't even begin to compete against the awesome damage done to my poor, poor nose.

The Nose is plotting a conspiracy with the Archons to cause the downfall of all reality, only the Archons don't know that the Nose is actually a double-agent. They figure it out eventually (Chapter 46) and, well, there you have it.

Although technically, if we go by Hitchhiker terms, Chapter 42 should've given us all the answers already, but... whatever. Life, the Universe and Everything seems so, so small in comparison with the damage-absorbing powers of my nose. THAT'S where all my Endurance points go.

The One Who Cares

"You are free." the man says to the small bird. "Find a world where you can be safe. He studies the small creature a bit more and transfers to it the ability to alter itself. "Be what you choose" and then he watches as the bird flies off.

--Devlin, to one of his Blood Creations.

This didn't make me laugh, not in the slightest.  Instead, I almost cried.  It's very poignant, and very telling as to Devlin's inner character.

Pain

"I'm about done, here..." he said quietly. He didn't even think about how he was hurt... just that his head was seriously bothering him, and that he was having trouble breathing... and how Arianne just wouldn't talk to him anymore... had he been mean to her again? What did he say this time... he couldn't remember... "...sick of rants..."

Aaron.  Stormbringer, Page 8.

He holds the sketchbook out to her, his face pale, ashen, drained, hopeless.
