Nice Bio, Dorian!  :)

Good morning, all!  *sits down with popcorn to watch Aaron and James duke it out*

Hey, I wear a black hat, now.  I can enjoy a spectacle.

Re: Rumour Control

i'm finally geting my way at work. Here is the companies first site created in pure CSS. All the layout if the site is my work. http://rideformissingchildren.com/

I will one day be the Director of Web Development where I work. I understand both the front end technology (HTML & CSS) and the backend technology (PHP & MySQL)

I cna work between and with both the designers and the programmers.

Right now I can get away with just about anything right now.

The designers do not mind letting go of what I do and the programmers do not mind me telling them better ways to do what they need to do.

Yes, I'm making waves at work, or I will be when a certain individual gets back from vacation becasue he is afraid of giving up part of his strangle hold on things. I always did like to make waves, especially when I see people doing things the hard way and not using their brain.

But I'll just keep working from the shadows, never telling them what to do butinstead making quiet suggestions, slowly pushing them over to my way of thinking untill I'm running the joint.

Re: Rumour Control

Good stuff, Devlin.

I was lucky enough to convince my boss to let me build an intranet site for our department, recently. It's almost done, but I learned a lot from the experience.

Sadly, in school, I haven't had the chance to learn anything but HTML and CSS, so I had to feel my way through ASP and SQL. I can say it works, but I can't say it is done well. Already, I'm seeing a few things that could have been smoother, overall. Still, it's been a wonderful and very rare experience for me, and I've loved every second of it.

The best part is I found I really love this work. I can go for hours without a break, but I find I get a little caught up in the details, like making something perfect even though it already works. (Making it good in the first place would have been better.)

Re: Rumour Control

I understand, I can work for hours and never really need a break. The only part I dislike is adding content after the real work is done. But until they realize that they are wasting their money by paying me to copy and paste text into web pages...

Re: Rumour Control

Fantastic news, Devlin.  I know you're a sneaky little devil, and with the level of competence and understanding you have for your work, it was only a matter of time.

That is AWESOME.  If person X has a problem when they get back from vacation, well...the proof is in the pudding.  It sounds like your bosses can see when something works.

Re: Rumour Control

Actually, right now I am going through a crash course on PHP and MySQL at work because one of the programmers is leaving. I understand the basics and I have a good idea of what it can do, but it would likely take me many times longer to do anything.

Just one more thing to do. On the other hand I get paid quite a bit for reading and learning :P

Re: Rumour Control

Just a quick note to those in the 'Betrayals' thread... Meredith isn't with the group. She left early in the morning and isn't with you right. Luke your comment sounded like you may have believed she was still with the group so I wanted to clarify just in case. If you already knew this then please disregard :)

"The air is cool, and salt water lashes against the outcroppings below.  The island itself is some thirty or forty feet in diameter, and of broken, crumbling rock."

My apologies, Meredith.  I assumed you were in listening distance.  I was not aware you had left the island proper.

Yikes! Ok my fault! I'm sorry, Meredith is still on the island proper then. I guess that's what I get for speed reading the boss's post. *slaps wrist* bad player!

I'll get a  post in order shortly...

I'm glad I said something so you could clarify my oversight for me Luke, thank you sir!

No, no.  No thanks necessary.  *Poses*  I am simply that good.

Truly, after you said that I thought that you had left the island.  My posting of the dimensions was simply to explain why I assumed you were in listening distance, had you remained.

Berd used to appear mostly harmless.  There are at least twelve archons who would beg to differ if they could.

Meredith appears mostly harmless.  She scares the heck out of me.  :)

Chance appears mostly harmless.  I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Needless to say, it's the things that appear mostly harmless that worry me the most.

I wouldn't bother waiting.  James isn't feeling very communicative.  Which is probably just as well, since I'm going to be at a conference on the weekend.  I'll check tomorrow morning if I can, otherwise I'll be out of contact for 3 days.

Ah, summer... when RPoL is as slow as molasses.

Which, of course, is followed by fall when everyone goes back to school and RPoL is slow as molasses... and then the holidays, when RPoL is slow as molasses....

Online games are always slow as molasses...except when they're not.

I'm going away for a bit in a couple of weeks.  I expect that every game I'm in will suddenly sprout about a hundred and fifty posts.  :(

Somehow, lately they've seemed especially slow for me.
