Re: By popular demand... another OOC thread.

We just started playing Table Top again recently, and it has been a real shock to the system.

I'm starting up a game soon, myself.  Should be scary.

Re: By popular demand... another OOC thread.

The sheer amount of dice rolling with this group surprised me - One DM seems to have random tables for everything and a few dice rolls later you have roll-played -   but not really role played ....

The other gets bogged down in the combat systems so it almost becomes a skirmish level war game ....

Re: By popular demand... another OOC thread.

Good lord.  O_o  Hardcore rules D&D, is that it?  Would be a shock to get that after the sort of heavy RP one tends to get in play-by-post!

I hope you're having fun, at least!

Re: By popular demand... another OOC thread.

Pathfinder - it does seem to handle many things better than the  other 3e variants - although they have just started adding in all the  rules that let people play an Alien-meerkat-cowboy(*) in a fantasy setting  :(

Without that they actually had an impressively well balanced game world and scenarios.  (when compared to most D&D settings I have seen)

(*) OK - that might be a slight exaggeration.

Pathfinder DOES look good.  They cranked up the power level of all the classes, but the classes actually seem to be more balanced now.  I rather liked what I saw of the game.  :)  Good choice.

But they've added in all kinds of other stuff?  O_O  Doesn't sound like it's entirely to your taste.  :(

Re: By popular demand... another OOC thread.

The advanced players book has lots of new prestige classes, blood lines, extra abilities etc etc ....  It moves things into the mega high fantasy anything goes league -  which doesn't suit me well at all  :)

Re: By popular demand... another OOC thread.

There are times when I want a gritty, lower-powered campaign, I admit.   A lot of the time.

.....

My tabletop is an Anima game.  There'll be lots of politics, shades of grey, dirty dealings, and nastiness, but gritty/lower-powered it isn't. :)

Re: By popular demand... another OOC thread.

Oh I like a 'heroic' game. I was introduced to Norse Myth as a child and then progressed through various other mythologies. In  the late 70s I found a D&D book and thought  WOW!  I read the PHB and DMG through cover to cover in a one night sitting  :)

I don't mind a bit of politics and intrigue or a few puzzles -  but they have to be fairly quick -  I am not good at piecing together clues spread over 12 weeks of adventure  :)  But basically, I like my fantasy worlds to be straightforward  and consistent  :)

Actually - the same is true of most other games - one of the reasons I like Traveller  as a setting  :)

Very late 70's, then!  :)  Yes, I get that - similar things happened to me. ^_^

*grin* I spend much more time playing around with world design elements now, than I do playing.  *shrug*  Funny how one's interests change over time.

Re: By popular demand... another OOC thread.

I understand that.  :)

For myself, I used to ref.

Nobody else in my group wanted to GM.  About...80% of the time, it was me.

:(

So now when I'm on Rpol and SC, I almost exclusively play.  After decades of reffing, it's welcome.

Thank you, Ron!

Indeed - thank you Ron.

TBH - I hardly ref at all now -  However, I still do world design  :)

Re: By popular demand... another OOC thread.

Aww... it's nothing.  I prefer GMing to playing, to be honest.  Currently I have seven games on my Sticky List that I own, and only three games that I play in (and only one of those three could be accurately described as "active").  And I like it just fine that way.

From me, you will have to settle for a limerick (that I found on line)

Santa said "Look! In the Snow
A Travelling Bordello show.
I counted three hookers,
nice little lookers,
which leads me to say Ho Ho Ho"

I hope you all have a great Christmas, Yule and New Year ....

Yes - and I hope you and everyone else here has a great new year.  We are seeing this year out in West Wales  and we are currently sitting in a service station on the M4, after exploring the Roman baths, amphitheatre and museum at Caerleon all morning  :)

I am sure that we will spend at least part of tomorrow up a mountain somewhere looking at pretty views  before we head home again :)

Sounds fabulous, Tylen!  :)

Okay, I'm now 'fully' back, and getting caught up in all my games.  :(  This could take some time.
