In Memory, Dave Arneson

In memorium of the anniversary of his passing, I would like to give a shout out to a true pioneer of RolePlaying, Dave Arneson, the often overlooked co-creator of D&D who created and was instrumental in putting the RolePlay elements into the game so many of us love. No one should ever cast disparage on the combat, movement, turn based actions, mechanics of the game that was created by Gygax, but let us not forget that the soul of Role Play was created by Dave.

Re: In Memory, Dave Arneson

I met him on several occasions (in a college group called RPSIG).  He was a real great guy.  I now really wished I played in his all women game he would run every year.

Re: In Memory, Dave Arneson

If Gygax was the Heart of D&D, then Arneson was the Soul.   He made the game more fun for everyone.

Re: In Memory, Dave Arneson

It is said:

quote:
There are three deaths: the first is when the body ceases to function. The second is when the body is consigned to the grave. The third is that moment, sometime in the future, when your name is spoken for the last time.

So by playing their games, and speaking their names, they cannot truly die.
