A journey made once, and with no two steps retread.
That feeling when it's discovered you have Surprise!BrainCancer and you suddenly find yourself away from home and your fur-babies for over two months with only a brief week-long visit with them between the major brain surgery and the radiation/chemo, and what you really wanted/needed was your favourite game (which has always been therapeutic even when life was good) but the GM puts it on hold with the possibility of deleting it. And you can't get angry with the GM at all because you know that they, like everyone, have their own strudel to deal with and you respect that, but you're still desperate to play that character and you don't really have the energy to try to find a whole new game, go through all the joining discussion, hope you mesh with the other players, etc. And then when you try to vent about this elsewhere, nobody really seems to get it or understand how important it is to you and so you can't even get any genuine sympathy because "it's just a game."

Got a vent and a not-vent, so I'll get the negative out of the way first (you can go to the appropriate thread and see what I'm not-venting about there...)

Missed out on two makeup jobs over the weekend, because while I was on my way to the first one, my car blew its timing the middle of the freeway at 80-something MPH.  Busiest weekend I've had in months, coming at me...less than three months after I'd had the clutch rebuilt...days before I was going to replace the water pump (and the timing belt, since that particular model runs the timing belt off the water pump...)

Now I'm back in the market for a car.  Got through the weekend thanks to the generosity of friends, but after spending nearly $1000 on my car already this year, having to turn around and buy another car is NOT a welcome challenge.

PM frustration
Really frustrating when you're trying to run a game and the PM system goes down in that game and all you can do is play the waiting game while trying to keep your frustrated players from complaining that they can't do things in the pm system....ugh I would really just like things to be normal now.....

PM frustration
I feel anxious and sad. I had a falling out with a friend almost precisely a year ago. In that year I haven't been able to shake the desire to hang-out and play a card game (something we both loved and no one else seemed to) with him.

He seems to give me the cold shoulder, and after a year I'm pretty sure he has no interest in ever hanging-out of playing cards with me. Yet he won't give a definitive reply. He's at the same hang out locations (the game shops) and it has been awkward to ignore him or interact with him only for him to ignore me.

My mother, who's not the best role-model, nonetheless said some words of wisdom. "You don't want to be with someone who doesn't want to be with you." and I understand that to be true.

I just wish there was some closure. If I knew where he stood, I could follow suit. I guess I just have to make the choice that I don't want to stay in between this state of do cordiality and and friendship. I can't be his friend if he doesn't want me to be, and it's damaging to my morale and self esteem to keep hanging on to that hope he'll turn around.

I hate losing friends. It happens so much more frequently in person than online. Yet the face to face connection, or at least hearing someone voice, is what I enjoy most.

Anyway, I don't want to dwell on it. I have some people on RPOL who've offered to be a sounding board and chat when I have the desire. I should focus on that.

I just...look at these cards, these dozens of decks I made to play with him, and it makes me wish he could see past my PTSD. But if he can't, he's not as good a friend as I'd hoped. It just makes me sad.

I see him tomorrow, as a mutual friend is taking me the shop and this guy has said he'll be there. That makes me anxious.

Oh well...

I wish people would leave me alone about getting a girlfriend. I know I would be happier. I just do not want to repeat history. What is wrong with breaking a cycle of being cheated on and lied to? People who say not all women are like that, make me want to swing a fist. Not all women are like that, but it seems like all women I end up being attracted to.

Are taken, or are like that.

So I gladly stay single, because even when I try to aim for a new goal. History repeats itself.

Could have done better myself!
Minor Gripe: I've just had a pretty crappy blood drive experience. Usually, it's not much trouble. My blood pressure is usually a little low, but my veins are not hard to find at all. Plump and full of O Negative goodness ready to be tapped. So I hopped in the chair and held out my good arm, as instructed, but the tech just frowned at my arm and just stared at my best spot.

Blood Drive Tech: Does it always look like that? I mean, do you ever have trouble with your veins rolling?
Eggy: No, Miss.

She was a younger lady, but she still pulled out a pair of glasses and fiddled over my arm. Then she called over another tech to "take a look." Second Tech told her that I was great. But the first tech just huffed and rubbed my arm "to warm it up" for a good two minutes. Then, she asked me to squeeze a ball for another couple of minutes. After all that, she missed twice. The third try felt like she was skimming along, scraping my vein and digging. By the time she got it in, it was placed so awkwardly, that I could feel the weight of the collection tipping the needle upwards. I could not wait to get out of that chair. When it was over, she disconnected wrong and got blood on the leg of my pants.

Then she told me to make sure that I drink water before coming to the next blood drive.

BDT: Staying hydrated makes the process much easier.

My forearm looks like an eggplant.

Dear Dyslexic Driver...

...When you put on your right blinker and expect me to let you into the left lane as you drive 40 mph in a 65 mph zone, and then you flash your brights at me when I pass you by...

There's this thing called "Driver's Education". Look into it. That'd be awesome.

Why is it so hard to find players who are able to sustain interest in a pbp? I am looking at my games and the games I play in and things move so slowly. Is it just in my head?

Freaking Really?
Why is it people get so pissy? I mean for crying out loud, if you're acting all snotty to someone, then you don't have a leg to stand on when they call you on it. You're not any kind of victim, you're the instigator. And, when your consist snottiness finally gets them to give you a verbal smack down about you being a jerk, it's STILL not you being the victim. If you had started off being a decent individual, then it wouldn't have happened. It's on you, not them, that you got put in your place. Grow up and get over it.

I don't really care that much about the celebrity deaths.  I mean, sort of, but it's just...

It's not why I hate 2016.

Very literally the worst year of my life.

Except 2017 isn't looking to be any better.

Freaking Really?
I'm not sure if we're actually a couple of weeks behind schedule, or if I was just never properly informed of what the schedule is...but up to my eyeballs in a project at work that, normally, I would have nothing to do with.  Not complaining about's given me the opportunity to showcase some skills that I know I have, but nobody else at work ever seems to acknowledge (and might be some fuel for asking for a pay raise, since I've done about six or seven things on this project that are NOT anywhere in my job description, even if you overlook the fact that the project is not even for my department...)

But I don't like being behind schedule on stuff.  I don't like the fact at it looks like I'm still going to be wading through garbage for this project when the stuff I'm SUPPOSED to be doing as a normal part of my job starts to become a priority.  I really don't like the fact that I've had to set aside one particular item on my list for this project for two weeks now because I had to wait for the contractors to finish part of THEIR list first (I was under the assumption that this whole project was supposed to be done two weeks ago...the contractors are still building stuff, we have to move a bunch of decorative stuff in, and then they have to set all the lighting and, yeah, conservatively, I'd say we're at least two weeks out, maybe even three...)

None of this would bug me anywhere near as much if anyone was bothering to keep me up-to-date on anything beyond which jobs within the project keep getting shuffled over to me (and even that is being generous...I was supposed to be emailed an updated list the end of last week.  I'm still knocking stuff off my old list, not knowing how many new things have been added yet.)  And, yeah...technically, there's no reason I need to know any of this other stuff.  But having once been in a position where I was getting updated weekly, if not more often, on EVERYTHING that was happening in the department, adjusting to different management style has been a trial...especially when they start talking about how much trouble they're having with some item or other, and I'm like, "I had time three weeks ago to take care of that...shoulda told me then...", or I end up helping someone else in my department with their project at the last minute because nobody said anything about it being a problem earlier (again, usually, when I had time earlier, as well...)

Can I complain about RPOL?
Am I allowed to complain about games falling apart in this thread? I didn't want to start a new one, I just wanted to complain about people starting things then disappearing. :-(

I've only been here a few months and literally I've had like a dozen games start and die in that time. That's absurd!!!

Are all PBP forums like this?

It would be nice if there was some kind of point system that you lost if you disappear without some reasonable explanation or something. :-\ But I guess people could/would just create new accounts or something.

ARGH! So frustrating!!!
