I don't know if I ever gamed with Peonygirl, but that's sad news to hear.

I don't believe I played with him. It is very sad he has passed on. I wish his family well and my condolences to his friends, family, and the people he gamed with.

Re: R.I.P. Peonygirl

My condolences to the family and friends. I had seen his name pop up a few times here on-site but I never had the pleasure of gaming with him. Always sad to lose one of the RPOL family.

Re: R.I.P. Peonygirl

I've seen Peonygirl around but I don't think that I've ever been in the same game.

Sad to hear that we've lost a member of the RPol family. My condolences to his family and friends.

I, much like Grizzly, have seen him around, but never spoke to him.

It's sad when a friend passes. My sincerest condolences to his friends and family.

Re: R.I.P. Peonygirl

This isn't mine...but fitting. It's taken from Kenzer Co, the publisher of Knights of the Dinner Table.

The Empty Chair
Eulogy for a Gamer

There is an empty chair,
at the table this day.
A hallowed place where,
a friend once played.
The roll of his dice,
my ears long to hear.
Or perhaps it would suffice,
if he should suddenly appear.
With character sheet in hand,
and a bag of Cheeze-doodles to share.
All his friends would stand,
as he sat in the empty chair.
I hear his voice a-callin’,
and it ties my heart in a knot.
For he cries, “Though a comrade has fallen,
You must play for those who cannot.”
We conquered worlds on the run,
he and I in the name of fun.
And as others may come and go,
I make both both friend and foe.
But what I long for most,
is our past now long a ghost.

My condolences.   The loss of any member of our family here on rpol, or anywhere, is a sad thing.
They will be missed.

Re: R.I.P. Peonygirl

I am very, very sorry for the family's loss, and the loss we all share.  Peony was an excellent player - one that I would gladly accept in any game.  Thank you for sharing the information of his passing.

Re: R.I.P. Peonygirl

I had no idea he was in such a state. As game master for a game I have been in with him for years, he has always been knowledgeable, upstanding, and a great friend and comerade. I too wish him the best, and condolences to his friends and family as well, should they ever find this thread. The world is that much dimmer for his absence.

Between Peony and dfry dying (I've played with both).  I'm really having trouble just logging into RPol now.

Re: R.I.P. Peonygirl

Mouse, if it's any consolation, Jim is the first of all our old local circle of gamers to pass. He was only 44, and a couple of the guys close to his age are also in poor health for one reason or another. It's really shook them up.

Re: R.I.P. Peonygirl

I used to play MMOs with dfry in addition to RPol and it's just impossible to get motivated to play anything.  I can't even fire up minecraft in solo mode.

Playing with jim in another game didn't even know him at all except as sam, the halfling samurai.   He'll be missed in more ways than one.

I've played with Peony and had him in a couple of games.  He was a solid and reliable player.

I also played in a couple with a dfry13.  Is this the dfry you mentioned?

Re: R.I.P. Peonygirl

I never knew Peonygirl, but I have lost members of my family/gaming circle before and the empty chair at the table quote that was given earlier touches me to the quick, for it is true, there will always be that hollow place in your heart where you wish they could be there with their broadsword fighting back to back against 1000 orcs knowing that the odds were grim but hoping against hope that the king's skylancers would get there in time. We all have people we miss, but few as much as our gaming friends.

Re: R.I.P. Peonygirl

Wow, this is saddening news. I hadn't heard. I had played with, and Gm'd for both Peonygirl and Dfry13 for a long time, well over five years. This is rough news.

I am just finding this out, and it's tough. I've known both for a long time.

Just, wow.

Re: R.I.P. Peonygirl

Odd that this post should be back at his time for me.

Couple weeks ago, we were given word that Jim's headstone had been placed. Yesterday, my mother and I drove to his grave. We gave him a simple family service. Mother read a couple of poems, and we sang the first verse of "Amazing Grace," the song we have played at all of our family funeral services.

Re: R.I.P. Peonygirl

Yes, I didn't mean to return the thread to active, but I just wanted to mention my condolences, and that I fondly recalled gaming with Jim for a long time. I hadn't realized his health issues, and then I found in the same thread that Dfry had passed too.

A rough morning. Both of them were the first 2 players in my first ever RPOL game years, upon years ago, and I had the pleasure of playing with, and GMing for both of them. They will be missed. Many great times in the various games with both of them.

I'd also like to add my condolences. I played with Peonygirl here and he was a great person to have in the game, and will be missed by all involved.
