Your money isn't worth my life
So, at work tonight one of my team members was sent home with suspected COVID-19 symptoms (cough, sore throat, fever). Because we get screened every day, he basically lied to the screeners about how he felt, and must have not quite been feverish enough to pop on the temperature scanners. He claimed to us that he had felt only a little "meh", but had come to work anyway in order to make money. While he was sent promptly home once he told his symptoms to our supervisor (and Medical), the rest of us were furious. Primarily because this person has, when we have had slow work and people could choose to go home without penalty, taken every single opportunity offered, which has been probably 7+ times over the last several weeks. So any of those other times he could have chosen to stay and probably could have done little all night but a bit of cleaning, and gotten paid for his time. And instead went home to goof off, then found himself short of cash, and chose to put the rest of us at risk in order to get money that he had basically wasted by not choosing to just stay and get paid for doing very little.
None of us have any sympathy for him, because his actions meant we had to scrub down our entire line with bleach mix and then pray we hadn't missed anything that will make us ill. I have no idea if we're going to have to quarantine our entire team because of his selfishness. We have people in our team who are older, who have kids, who have contact with older adults who are in the worst age brackets, who have other vulnerable or high-risk people at home whom they live with. And now we all get to stress out for days until we know if this idiot's actions have put all of those lives at risk.
