I love my cat so dearly.
But last night he knocked my most expensive meds off my desk and right into his water dish.

I kind of wish I had that problem Ivan.
My latest meds, which was for helping reduce inflamation in my legs, caused me to have a minor TIA type stroke earlier this week.
Now I got a 24-7 head ache and can't see very well out of one eye.
I am Not taking any more of that med, let me tell you.

Yeah, be careful! Have a friend who spent approximately 5 of the last 7 days going in and out of the ER, had a cancer scare, and then was eventually diagnosed with toxicity coming from a medicine he's been on for a couple of years now. He's finally home, but a lot of the damage is seemingly irreversible.

I am reminded of how I have to take somewhat large amounts of ibuprofen to treat a brain swelling condition I have that can lead to migraines and seizures. Scary, but in my case fairly easily treated.

Downside is I am on so much painkillers a side effect is I rarely notice minor injuries until they wear off.

I guess I can't complain too much?

I work in frozen/dairy, mostly frozen, for a grocery chain.

Recently while I was off they not only repaired all the lights in the storage freezer they almost tripled the number in there, going from dim from only a couple working lights (seriously I sometimes needed a flashlight in the back to read boxes) to being one of the best lit places in the store. This also entailed clearing all the residual ice on the ceiling and floor and they fixed some aging stuff while they were at it. It's great...

But dairy needed a small renovation more. Half the doors we use to stock from behind some of the shelves don't even open and one doesn't close and falls off if you open it the rest of the way wrong.

Plus four freezers on the sales floor have had failing seals since spring and weren't fixed.

:(

The storage freezer's really nice to work in though I guess.

Seen that happening here at our local Publix. Customer side nice, new and Shiney - other side, what other side. The customers can't see it, so it's not important. - Corperate Mind is something of a Mystery. Mostly in where they Keep their Minds.

Password retrieval? Yeah, right.

Look here, jerks trying to jack my username on another site...

You know it isn't yours. It's never been yours. It's been mine for almost two decades now. Stop trying to retrieve your "forgotten" password for an account you never had. That's like calling the locksmith to get into a house that isn't yours, jerks.

I swear, at least once every 6 months I get a password retrieval email that I didn't trigger. At least.

Your money isn't worth my life

So, at work tonight one of my team members was sent home with suspected COVID-19 symptoms (cough, sore throat, fever).  Because we get screened every day, he basically lied to the screeners about how he felt, and must have not quite been feverish enough to pop on the temperature scanners. He claimed to us that he had felt only a little "meh", but had come to work anyway in order to make money. While he was sent promptly home once he told his symptoms to our supervisor (and Medical), the rest of us were furious. Primarily because this person has, when we have had slow work and people could choose to go home without penalty, taken every single opportunity offered, which has been probably 7+ times over the last several weeks.  So any of those other times he could have chosen to stay and probably could have done little all night but a bit of cleaning, and gotten paid for his time.  And instead went home to goof off, then found himself short of cash, and chose to put the rest of us at risk in order to get money that he had basically wasted by not choosing to just stay and get paid for doing very little.

None of us have any sympathy for him, because his actions meant we had to scrub down our entire line with bleach mix and then pray we hadn't missed anything that will make us ill. I have no idea if we're going to have to quarantine our entire team because of his selfishness. We have people in our team who are older, who have kids, who have contact with older adults who are in the worst age brackets, who have other vulnerable or high-risk people at home whom they live with. And now we all get to stress out for days until we know if this idiot's actions have put all of those lives at risk.

Sorry to hear it.  Had a similar thing happen to us, worker with a history of coming to work sick came in, insisted "it's not Covid" and now we have had to scrub the place out and are awaiting our own test results.  And have the joy of being shorthanded on top of it.

Hope it works out better for you, and the idiot has it written up in his file as 'endangering the health and welfare of the staff'.

I really don't understand why people like the FFG Star Wars system?  I swear C-3PO from episode 1 could lay waste to a starting character from that game.  I understand playing weaker than a 1st grader characters in some systems but Star Wars is supposed to be an epic adventure not an "OMG a mynoch, RUN!!!!" type of game.

Just have a house rule that gives PC's some survival edge.  That would kind of be in the feel of the movies, in which at every moment the PC's are hopelessly facing ridiculous odds and pull it off anyway.

"Fifty blaster turrets shoot at you... they all miss."

Of course knowing you're going to pull it off anyway means you're not facing ridiculous odds...

hmm...

Really hard to capture that feel in a game.

It's not great, but don't make it worse...

Well, after nine months of my husband being furloughed from his job and bouncing from using unemployment to being paid through his work due to grants they had gotten, they finally officially let him go because there was simply no reason to think they were ever going to need him (or most of their employees) again. What's going to be tough is that Hubby now not only has to switch from being idle as he has been for the last 9-plus months, but also finding an entirely different sort of job (as he's not going to find a job exactly like his old one).  It's going to be hard on him, even if he did agree without prompting that we can't go down to a one-income household (my job continues on strong, thank goodness).

So... that's a nice new worry to deal with.

I don't even know if this is vent-worthy. But here I am.
Christmas is hard every year. Was never a celebrant, grew up with a lot of self-loathing, and the loneliness baked into such a celebration just... yeah.
But today it's worse. I published my third novel this year, and even if I didn't give a percentage to my partner-in-writing, I'd still be several hundred dollars in the red for this one. And then a person I consider a good friend hit absolute gold with his new novel. He's getting interviews and podcasts and incredible reviews and sales and... it's a great book. and I love the guy dearly, but all I can feel is this bitter jealousy for his good fortune, and an overwhelming sense of failure for my own work. It almost makes me want to just... stop.

From the point of view of this unrepentant capitalist, doing what your audience/customers want and getting money for it isn't selling out, it's giving people what they want.  It's what makes the system truly beautiful- when you can align what the people want to buy with what you want to sell, celestial harmony and profit are achieved.

And so it comes, as expected. All of the people who, at Christmas, excluded me but added the promise "New Years!" have suddenly become too busy or the like to include me at New Years, either.
I know it's petty. I know it is. But loneliness is extra sharp this year, and ...
*sigh*
I know that after the new year, likely late January, these same people are going to reach out to me out of a feeling of guilt or obligation, and I'll be reminded once again: I'm good enough to connect with. But not during the holidays. Those are for better people.

CrazyIvan777, you've had THREE novels published?  HOLY CRAP!  That's amazing!  There are plenty of writers who haven't even had one published.  That is so amazing to me!  Rmail me the titles, and I will find them and read them.
