Well, you could "sell out" and write things outside of your comfort zone.

From the point of view of this unrepentant capitalist, doing what your audience/customers want and getting money for it isn't selling out, it's giving people what they want.  It's what makes the system truly beautiful- when you can align what the people want to buy with what you want to sell, celestial harmony and profit are achieved.

Write a story where the jealous thoughts of the 'hero/heroine' come true, seeming because of those thoughts.

Re: It's not great, but don't make it worse...

And so it comes, as expected. All of the people who, at Christmas, excluded me but added the promise "New Years!" have suddenly become too busy or the like to include me at New Years, either.
I know it's petty. I know it is. But loneliness is extra sharp this year, and ...
*sigh*
I know that after the new year, likely late January, these same people are going to reach out to me out of a feeling of guilt or obligation, and I'll be reminded once again: I'm good enough to connect with. But not during the holidays. Those are for better people.

CrazyIvan777, you've had THREE novels published?  HOLY CRAP!  That's amazing!  There are plenty of writers who haven't even had one published.  That is so amazing to me!  Rmail me the titles, and I will find them and read them.

Rmail me the titles. Apparently naming them here violates some rules.

CrazyIvan777:
But today it's worse. I published my third novel this year, and even if I didn't give a percentage to my partner-in-writing, I'd still be several hundred dollars in the red for this one.

I know how that feels. I had to get a second job to cover the editing and cover art for my two novels.

Reminds me of the mime showing the guy in the wheelchair looking at the guy on the bicycle looking at the guy in the car. All were wishing they had what the other had.

Sometimes it is a good idea to appreciate what you do have.
Even the guy in the wheelchair could be bed-ridden.

Not at all, do it. As often and for as long as you need. Tell the people in your games though that you're going away and for how long (and I don't know is a fine answer to that second one)

TAking a mental break is not bad at all.  As it has been said please just let your GMs know what you are doing.  If you know how long fine if not then tell them you do not know and they have different ways each GM will handle that.  But you must take care of yourself first hun.

A good GM would understand and not be unkind. Don't stress about it. What others have said makes sense. You need to look after yourself first.

Mika, if a GM is unkind to you then you don't need that game to worry about.  Almost every GM will understand, they as a GM most likely have needed a rest for their 'Muse'.  As I said, you don't worry about them you worry about you and take all the time that you need.  We ALL, including me, have had to do it sometimes.  A person's mental health and stress level has to come first.  Take your time and only return to gaming when you feel you want to and can do it.  I know I had drather have happy gamers in my games than ones that are struggling and pushing themselves. Quit a game asking if you feel more fit to play it that you might re-apply to it. But if a GM were unkind and not understanding to me.  I would just say 'I quit', but I would say it so they knew to remove me and that I just didn't disappear which is just rude. xx

I can attest to the fact that LadySharlyne is a kind GM and patient. Even with the ones that just disappear occasionally (eyes LadySharlyne apologetically).

Mika? it will depend on the  age and how mature the people in the game are?

My game has folks who have had all manner of   troubles, deadly helath Issues ( a few have passed)...work.. weather.. have a felow   on the elft coast who had to worry about  fires, and a  Lady in england  fighting Covid, while  being a doctor.....

many folks have taken a break. For your part, you sai " I can't be here for  ...whatever time.."

if the GM and players  can't acpet that? you are in the wrong  game, with the wrong type of people.

GMs  can come up with logical reasons  atr the dorp of a hat, to why 'someone  is on the back burner'...again? if they can't, they shouldn't be runnign a game.

anyone  can  run/play a game when things  are going fgreat... the real test comes, when things go badly.

It can be pretty traumatic sometimes. Early on I would take a falling out pretty harshly, and I actually took a few years off. I am learning to take things less personally, and I will walk away from a game pretty quickly if I feel things are not a good fit. Hope you feel better soon...
