No it’s just that they don’t look in or do and don’t post.  When they decide to go back to posting they don’t bother to see what the storyline is at and just post whatever they wish.

This was just a vent.  I’ve been GMing for over 15 years and it always happens so I vented.  Vent over … deep breaths that’s it deep breaths vent over.

Two days of finals down, one more to go. Today's students -- at least in our district -- aren't as capable as back when I was in school... or even a couple generations after. Instead of two days of three finals each, it's three days with two finals each.

And now some moron has posted a ticktok (misspelling intended; that format is a parasite on society) challenge for school violence in school tomorrow, putting schools across the nation on high alert. The idiocy never stops.

Finish your dumbed-down finals and go on Christmas break already. Don't screw up the rest of your life proving what an utter sheep you are!

Maybe they just don't see how learning to conform, follow directions and basic fundamentals are going to make much difference in their future minimum wage job.
This is especially true if all the jobs are going to be replaced by AI and robots anyway.

My stepdaughter was refusing to go to school friday because some yaboo threatened to shoot the place up.  My wife told her this morning that she's going; they caught him.  I believe expulsion was the course of action, plus charges preseed.

As someone who has been thru a school shooting (Lindhurst High, '92), if there was ANY suspicion that someone had an actual plan to bring a gun to school, my kids STAYED THE FRUIT HOME.

Considering my kids STILL went thru one actual shooting and one lockdown that ended in the kid getting dragged off before he could fire a gun, I do not regret my stance on them missing a day for safety.

Re: Vents with allowed responses - 3
Used to be you would walk through a student parking lot, and pass by a few trucks with rifles and/or shotgun in the back window.  You would think nothing of it because you knew those students went hunting before or after school.

Back then kids had responsibilities not just privileges. You were not reminded at every turn how "bad" you have it compared to "others". So unfair, ought to get even.

I'm glad to hear they caught the instigator of this latest "challenge." I hope the kid and his parents all get some extensive counseling. There's still a chance now the kid can get his life back on track.

Rumor is that one of the schools in the district where I work, the high school my stepdaughter attends, found guns on site.

It's crazy that they feel the need of them. Jamming more and more kids into a single facility to save money, has other costs. I remember going from a school of hundreds to a school of thousands. From personal experience, the outsiders are ganged up on not joining together. More people gives more bullies. More bullies give more people preyed on. At least one will feel the need to fight back or get even. I don't see how, without surveillance and AI, this can be addressed with the staffing and funding at their current levels.

I was one of those outsiders who got bullied by everybody.  Even other outsiders.  But, I never went out to kill my tormentors.  I thought about it.  A lot.  And quite creatively, I might add.
Since I had a chemistry set, Encyclopedia Britannica, and my grandfather's medical encyclpedias....

Has anyone else experienced the phenomena of 'games I am really interested in joining' only being advertised when one does not have the time to committ to them?  I'm sure it's not the case in reality but it feels like my free time and games I love the look of are in two entirely different orbits!

The second part is a vent about myself and maybe some self reflection - as the years go by I am finding myself more and more picky about what I'll apply to - to the point of self exclusion really.  At one time I am sure I would overlook a lot of things that make me pause now.

Yeah I get the second half pretty well.
I have not played a game here in over 2 years - I just come in for the forums these days. Mostly as no game interest me anymore. .. sign I am getting old I think...

it has nothing to do with getting old?  its getting wise..the  games i am in  have been around. some games I joined  were former players who started  a game and asked if i would join to 'get things  moving'

any who have seen my posts  about this know, i have a short list for games i would join, no matter  how much i Like the concept ( Micromanaging  CS, and making players wait months to play..yeah..not happening!   detailed  step-by-step posting rules for colors  ect...nop...the list  is short..byt important to me... you're  going to spend the one thing you can't get back...Time... it should be worth it.)

Do details no longer matter?
In reply to ShadoPrism (msg # 1973):

Age may be part of it for me too.  Don't know whether I am being overly discerning, but as donsr says there is a certain wisdom in knowing what you'll enjoy and what you won't.  I do feel like I am suffering from 'Goldilocks' syndrome though where everything has to be 'just right' and we all know what happened to her!

I guess part of it is that I remember the relatively few things that are a turn off or led to a poor experience and they become bigger than the years of fun, rewarding roleplay experiences.

The "Enjoyment / Time" calculation. Unfortunately, all to often, doing nothing provides enough enjoyment.
I keep eyeing the newer narrative style games as having a better ratio but hard to find people that share that interest. So many different genre and even flavors within a genre to reach a consensus on.
As was said, with all the choices, 'Goldilocks' syndrome is strong.

Truthfully I don't even look anymore - like I said above, I am just here for the forums anymore.

Well, you know how older folks feel about music. Everything was better back when they were younger. The stuff the kids are into these days is just noise! I imagine the same holds true for a lot of our more... fully matured gamers.

I'm sure. Like a Minecraft landscape. The farther way it is, the better it looks.
The human mind has selective memory and those games when things were new are now MYTHIC.
All the fumbling and confusion has been forgotten and just the high points are remembered.
This makes it very difficult for any new game to compete.

Back In The Day, everyone fumbling around trying out the new game was part of the group experience. Now it is just annoying.

I have mentioned a few times through the years...everything comes in waves...

New Vampire  movie or show?..tons  of Vamp games

New  SCI-FI..tons of  space games

New  Marvel show...tons of super heroes

list goes on..... In the  end...and? Again i have said this before,  a GM  should pick i  genre  he wants to play in...run the game how  he wants it run if he was the  player..give  some small input from players  for flavor, and...most of  all keep the game moving.

Younger 'butterfly' folks will always hop from game to game.. one of the vets here  said  'the new shiny"...

Vets will  try a game..and they will leave if it 'doesn't suit them'

all age does?  is make you chose 'more wisely'

::chuckles:: that could be a thread all by itself?  There   are   generes  i have , that i have looked for, but  most of the GMs/DMs  don't  advertise... and some that are advertised, i happened not to pick the right selection to bring up games.

::shurgs:; that's fine though, sooner or later a game will show up that i am interested in, that also  fits  my personal parameters... until then, I cursive along as i am now.
