And then repeat the process for all of the two dozen threads the years-old snip of dialogue I'm looking for might have been in?  Yes, that technically works.

Usually you can skip the whole "Notepad" stage.  Most browsers have a function that lets you search a page for specific text.

So open up the whole thread, and search for the text in your browser.

Of course, you have to remember the exact word/phrase your looking for... but that's true, even with those fancy "grown up" websites.  :)

Vents with allowed responses - 3
Display all and then ctrl-f... If you can remember about which thread it happened in, that helps.

I get frustrated as both a player and DM when people can't bother to scroll back at least to their last post and refamiliarize themselves just a bit to avoid awkward posting which slows the flow when we all have to sort it out. I'll admit to doing it myself from time to time however, so I'm not throwing any stones. Just words. Some players and GMs are notoriously bad though. Can make for some hilarious scenes though when players spend consecutive rounds trying to flank an enemy as they orbit each other without reading prior posts!

So what you are saying is that RPoL pulled a total dad move and is delegating to its children like a total boss? That is indeed grown up and added value in not wasting resources to provide a function that is already built into your browser.

Searching multiple threads is not built into my browser.  Or yours, or anyone's.

It's not just the sorting through multiple threads for information that easily could be a year old.  There's also the issue of the time it takes to read through it.   On longer threads, that could be an hour or more.

The same can be said if you don't remember what it is you are actually looking for. If I type a phrase in a full thread it takes me right to every instance of that phrase, or even if I only remember part of it, it takes me right to it.

A couple extra button clicks, for each additional thread you want to search.  It gets annoying after ten threads, and too frustrating to bother with before you hit twenty, though obviously other peoples' tolerance for that sort of thing may vary.

No argument from me on that.  I've spent... wasted... the time.  I can't compare speed listening to speed reading, so I can't say with any certainty if I can listen faster, when listening for something specific, than you can look for it.

I'd expect listening takes longer since your eyes can skip ahead as you read, but your ears can't.

I worked with a 100% blind colleague when developing an in-house software application, and when he used JAWS at his normal speed he was crazy fast in navigating Windows and the multitude of in-house apps we used.

I used to type (back before Carpel TunneL) around a hundred words a minute.   Which meant that I tended to type faster than I could talk...and found having to use voice chat annoying.

In reply to Brianna (msg # 2095):

Well, this is where things get tricky. The average play for most audio devices is around 150-165 words per minute.     I can go up to three-hundred words per minute, and if its a text I've listened to prior and am searching for something specific can go up to 370 per minute.

The thing is some people can skim and scroll faster than that, since they can automatically skip over the image tags, and the links and their associated numbers and the like.    So, *does the see-saw motion with open palms*. It depends.   I've been known to sometimes speed listen for info while on hold, as its one of the easier times in which to do it in.

Re: Vents with allowed responses - 3
The following is a public service rant.

If you are part of an organization that sends out regular E-Mail messages, you might want to think twice before you do an image background. Depending on the system it might make that text you put in as part of the image, in which case all your blind employees/ customers will get absolutely nothing. Oh, some of your sighted folks might have trouble too, depending on contrast, or lack  there of.

I was a customer, I sent it to three friends, all of whom also had trouble.   So I printed the sucker  out, scanned it in via OCR, and finally got the information.

Thank you, end of public service rant.

Things tend to be done for "typical people", which involved certain assumptions much like those you're referring to.   This tends to end up leaving non-typical (usually people with mental and/or physical challenges) out of the loop.

Even though it's certainly a less annoying example: because of my autism, song lyrics often don't make sense.   Which means I have to look for them, also time consuming because music publishers don't like "free" distribution of proprietary material.

Or...updates on social media.   Not everyone uses social media.

Dear Amazon: The middle of the driveway, directly behind my car where I can't even SEE them, is *NOT* where you leave my packages. I don't care how big the box is, there's a sidewalk AND a porch AND a whole section of the driveway that's at least visible from the house that you could have used instead. This is twice. TWICE. /shakes fist

That is right up there with my last delivery from them. Sign by my front door says place packages on Bench NOT Ground, so where did they put it, under the bench, where I could not see it, on the ground.
I am physically disabled, a visiting nurse found it there by pure chance, marveling over it cause the sign is SO Obvious.

I can top that, unfortunately.  I was supposed to be getting a replacement monitor yesterday; and just fyi, my apartment door opens to the sidewalk.   Driver pulls up, idles for like 15 seconds, then drives off.

Windows unneeded updates and changes to programs I have used for Years with no problem. Update leaves them useless now. Weather App being a big one there, today. Log in and my animated weather radar is replaced by a brown and green still map with No satellite coverage and the option page is just Gone.

Re: Vents with allowed responses - 3
I was really worried some had hacked my PC. I'm in a motel, to ready to transition from homelessness, and people have access to my room; whether I like it or not. My rig is the opposite of a laptop. Granted, it fits in a motel room; so not even in the same zipcode as major PC rigs; but that's why I don't just unplug hardware. I have it password protected, and I have all my normal precautions up by an order of magnitude; and I was getting this driver indication for a new device; and I have no new devices...So until seeing this my thought was rubber duck/hack-drive. I'm not glad it's stupid windoze crap; but I'm relieved it's not near and personal malice.
