Board etiquette / rules

Hi,

I thought I would ask here before I potentially broke any rules. There is a thread in the looking for GM forum where the OP is looking for CoC solo game. A user has responded that they maybe running a group CoC game sometime in the near future.

I would be interested in the group CoC game. Can I post this in the thread or I am hijacking the thread? Can I rMail the GM or is that considered an unwanted rMail?

Thank in advance :)

You should probably just contact the GM directly via rMail. It is impolite to hijack other people's Wanted-GM threads, especially if it isn't what they wanted.

For example if someone says "I want to play a X game" it is...okay... to drop a line saying "I also am interested" but generally, in my opinion, this is a little rude. Wait until someone expresses interest in running the game and then contact them privately to avoid cluttering up the thread with kind of useless messages.

I've seen a thread where someone says "I want to play in X" and there are a dozen other people commenting "Me too!" which isn't what that space is for. The point is for players to find GMs, not other players :D

You can also be proactive by using that player's user name and searching the games they run and just RTJing directly to the game in question following the RTJ guidelines they set up.

I've done that before when someone mentioned they were running a game I was interested in. Instead of bothering with a thread or rMail I just looked them up, found the game, and applied directly.

And sometimes a show of interest in a game idea can be just the thing to encourage a GM to step forward.

Re: Board etiquette / rules

Maybe. I just know that when I post a W-GM thread I get really excited to see when someone replies to it only for it to be another player, not a GM. Like I said I think it's fine. I don't make the rules so I don't get to decide what is on and off topic :D

Re: Board etiquette / rules

I haven't ever posted on that particular forum...but if I was looking for a GM and a few other people said they were looking for the same kind of game, I'd be happy, because that would increase my chances of getting a GM to sign up to play...

If I was a GM perusing that forum, and I came across a thread for a game that sounded interesting AND had a handful of players ready to start, I'd be more likely to shoulder the job...
