spell checker

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask ... but can someone point me towards how to use the spell-checker function, please?

There isn't one built into the site itself.  However whatever internet browser you're using should offer that functionality.

In reply to donsr (msg # 3):

Could be you've done it so often your spell checker has adapted, assuming it's on purpose. I know my last couple phones have been that way. I hate it when the learn and I'm a bad teacher.

Yeah... you might need to do a search on how to edit your browser's Spellchecker.  I know I sometimes misclick "Add to Dictionary" instead of either "correct it" or "google search for"*, and then I have to go in and correct the misspelled word.

And my Spellchecker's vocabulary is vast (I also have foreign words in there)...

One neat thing I've noticed about Chrome's spellchecker, it checks your word against other words on the page, so for instance if I spell 'donsr', it treats it as correct because it's spelled correctly on this page repeatedly, but if I spell it 'donrs' it labels it incorrect.  Neat little feature which sometimes really screws me up in some game threads (if a name is misspelled more often than correctly, it chooses the incorrect spelling).

*  And there are still occasionally words Chrome's spellchecker doesn't have recorded.

Re: spell checker

my space  game has  all kinds of words i use...real slang ...'game slang' that the charcters would have  grown up with..Aliens..planets all that  stuff.

i noticed a couple of the names i have  for Aliens  are 'real words"..

that sorta  works, becaus eof the  translation thing  the PCs  and NPCs  have  might  do that to 'fit words in'

My Players are  pretty  cool, in that  they know what i'm saying. If something came up that was important to a post they'll PM  or OOC  question.

all i know?.. if it weren't for  spellcheck, it would be alot worse!!

Re: spell checker

Speaking as one of your players, sometimes deciphering what you really mean t to say is as much of an adventure as what's happening in the game...*laugh*

But you do generally get the message across pretty clearly.  What gets really fun is when you introduce a new NPC and have 'alternative spelling' for their name in five or six different posts, so we're not quite sure which on is the real thing...*grin*  I'm not sure a spellcheck would necessarily help a lot with that, though.  Even with the Chrome feature mentioned, if enough players latch onto a wrong spelling in their posts, it would throw the spellcheck off...

Re: spell checker

::chuckles:;  yeah.....I have notes piled on my desk..i have them labeled  for use  and then  'inscribed' them in the journal i use for that game...

some  NPCs  are supposed to b e 'close'  in sound to others.. to help it seem  like  the kinda  mix ups  would be on a Warship and  those who  are entwined  in its story//

but? sometimes ? i mess them up!

again?..YOu guys have to be the ebst crew on this  site...take alot of the  stuff in stride..not afraid to ask questions..and even answer each other's OOC questions if i am not around!

There is a way to solve this... make an NPC in the system, so you can post as the NPC.  Then their name will always properly print alongside their posts.

Of course if you have enough NPCs this way may lay madness.  Frex my GM who has around 600 NPCs... I can't imagine scrolling through that dropdown to post as an NPC.

Re: spell checker

i use the box to put stuff in like 'fighters"...'ground troops".." Demons"  ect ect..some times i use the Name of PCs in the Box if  it doesn't match thier charcter   name.

there  are times i type in a NPC same if its  not a 'named ' NPC that has their own CS....

the  GM posts that have many NPCs  talkign at once  are separated by colors  and  such, and 'read' like a script as far as spacing goes.

the only time players have trouble is   during  real..busy  posting timed and the  GMs  posts get buried..that players sometime  , don't look back far enough, because of using phones and such.
