Being able to edit the posts you see would be nice, even if it was a bonus feature for contributors.

For instance if one person spams players wanted with types of games you have no interest in so you don't see them.

depending on what you mean  by 'spamming'. GMs  can  post  for thier  games  every 7 days... i do that for all my games, as you never  know when  RL will take a good player  away.

I see many, many games  pop up that are of Little interest to me?..I just mark 'all read'  after i  looked at the  games  i had any interest in.

to me , Spamming is  a GM running  many..many games...with Many , many deletions? That's  my  sign to 'not bother'.

in the end? clicking 'all read' takes a second. and is better then causing  needless work for the Admins.

I run 12 freeform games myself and that is because I want to run them.  I advertise every seven days, 3 each day over Thur - Sun, anyone can advertise every seven days.  The games with a lot of deletions only means that game has been around that long or even longer if a new ad thread had to be made.  I am always looking and open to new players.  Sometimes I do a two games a day over 6 days.  Anyone can post at these times as well.  My ads get bumped to the second page as other ads are placed not a problem.  You may not care for an ad but someone else might take interest so ...

I totally agree with Donsr that just clicking the all read link turns the light off the ads and works in any forums or games. I use it all the time myself for Wanted GMs, for example as most of those are looking for System games but once in a while someone wants freeform.

Yep Lady S..that's the think here. Not everything is  for everyone, but everyone can find something?

that's the whole purpose of  'the wanted ' threads!

So I for one never play in freeform games so Lady Sharlyne's constant promotion might be a concern for me but there are never that many daily Wanted-Player ads. Looking at the front page it goes back to Thursday on page 1 and Monday by page 2.

Thanks to the Game System column it is really easy to scan through it and pick up the games you're actually interested in.

If there was a feature to exclude game of certain systems I would take it but I don't think we're at the point where you need it yet if you can very quickly see an entire weeks worth of ads.

@ladysharlyne: No worries I'm using you as an example but I am not actually perturbed by your dedicated bumps.

In reply to darknash (msg # 1):

There are two Search buttons in W-P, one at the top of the page, and one at the bottom left.  They allow you to filter the the ads in two different ways.

The top button is similar the Search on the Main Menu, letting you specify age, category, system, and rating.

The bottom one lets you search for ads by keywords (ad title only) or by GM name.

I check in the Wanted - Players thread regularly, mainly looking for specific game systems or something different that tickles my fancy. Most of the time there is nothing that stands out, but it only takes a minute to check.

Some GMs routinely advertise multiple games. Do I find this a bit boring? Honestly... yes, but not enough to actually be bothered or make a complaint about it. Those games / GMs donít appeal so I ignore and move on. No hassle...

one thing as well, to keep in  mind Free form ( or semi-freeform ) doesn't always mean 'make up stuff as you go along"

my games have  my system, with a frame work and GM structure. so it has a system, but not a Name, so i use 'semi-freeform'.

Jaro points out  what Lady S  and i have said? The   name/add  ect doesn't appeal  to you?, move on. None of us here are gettign paid to play or run games.

There are rules in W-P regarding how often a GM can post, and for how many games.  Basically they can advertise for each game just once per week, and for no more than three games in any 24 hour period.

If they are complying with those limits, then they aren't breaking forum rules, and RPoL can not be expected to do anything about their perfectly legitimate use of a public forum.

Honestly making the block list more user available rather than an admin request would help. If I routinely ignore someone's games in the LP i'm probably not going to game with them. But it would be nice to be able to just press a button to un-ignore them if we did need to interact.

Or just have a save button on the filter.

Overall there aren't actually that many games actively recruiting that you really need to go more than like 2 pages of adds to see things that have limited recruitment spots. Currently page 5 is where things bumped this month ends.

Is there a way to filter out a system? adding a - argument in front of it or something.

Um... there isn't a block list, admin request or otherwise.

The only thing you can block is rMail from another user, and that isn't by admin request - it's just a matter of clicking a link at the top of an rMail from that user, and the two of you will be automatically blocked from rMailing each other.

I believe that jase has said he will not code a system that allows people to not see individual public forum posts by selected users.  If you want to avoid seeing a public forum post, you have to exercise a bit of willpower, and not open the thread.

Ah, I thought it covered more than just rmails. But I am right in thinking the only way to unblock them is by asking y'all?

Nope, there's no unblock at all. Don't know why though...

Blocking rMail is intended to be a final step, after all else has failed.  As such, it can not be reversed.

See what I'm saying? very non-user friendly.

ya, like I said it would be nice to be able to put in search operators so you could just search -"D&D 3.5" and find all the non-3.5 games.

Hmmm... except that blocking rMail is the very last resort, when all else is failed (it also reports the other person, with the possibility that they might eventually lose their rMail access completely (if it happens often enough), so it definitely should not be used for something as trivial as a minor spat).  Not being too user friendly discourages frivolous use of the function.

For less serious situations, where you might change your mind later, there is actually another option...  you can temporarily discontinue an rMail conversation by the simple expedient of just not replying any more.

Edit: And the Mark all as Read button will clear the NMI on the thread that you don't look at.
