Teaching an old Dog  New Tricks ~ Make a table in post?

Okay many would say senility has set in but its just Fibro forgetfulness for this 68 yr old.  I used to know how to do this but for the life of me can't figure it out!  Please Help teach this old dog an even older trick!

SWORD FIGHT     ROUND 1     ROUND 2     ROUND 3     ROUND 4

Sir Lancelot       ?
Sir Gawaine        ?
The Green Knight   ?

for example.  Please show me HOW to do this so I can remember or put it in one of my games to go back to.

I'm partial to Easy Tables.

LIke so:

|! Sword Fight|! Round One|! Round Two|! Round Three
|! Sir Lancelot|||
|! Sir Gawaine|||
|! The Green Knight|||

^^ This code results in ...

Sword FightRound OneRound TwoRound Three
Sir Lancelot
Sir Gawaine
The Green Knight

You could also use the [tr], [th], and [td] tags for the same effect.

<table><tr><th>Sword Fight</th><th>Round One</th><th>Round Two</th><th>Round Three</th></tr><tr><th>Sir Lancelot</th><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td></tr><tr><th>Sir Gawaine</th><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td></tr><tr><th>The Green Knight</th><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td></tr></table>

^^ This code results in ...

Sword FightRound OneRound TwoRound Three
Sir Lancelot
Sir Gawaine
The Green Knight

I figured out how to get colour and spacing in the blocks.   Ski-Bird this is Great!  I have a lot of contests in my freeform games and do simple dice rolls.  This was so simple ... once I found the | on my keyboard.  LOL  haven't used that key for many years.  I will now!

There are some shortcuts for text centering too.

The ! means that a box is greyed out and the text is centered.  But the <, >, and ^ keys can justify the text as well (left, right, and center justified respectively)

Like so:

|First column|Second Column|Third Column
|< 1|^ 2|> 3

First columnSecond ColumnThird Column
123

If you know you want the same text justificatio for the entire column of the easy table, you can do a top row that sets the rule.

Like so:

|-<|-^|->
|First Column|Second Column| Third Column
|1|2|3
|A|B|C

First ColumnSecond ColumnThird Column
123
ABC

You can also use |= to grey out the box without centering the text.

An in-depth tutorial about most (everything?) you need to know about tables is here: link to a message in another game

Teaching an old Dog  New Tricks ~ Make a table in post?

This looks nicely solved.

I'll just add the simplest way to do it, for anyone coding shy, is to use <tt> ... </tt>. It preserves the exact spacing you see when drafting a post, so you can use spaces for spacing.

<tt>
SWORD FIGHT    ROUND 1   ROUND 2   ROUND 3   ROUND 4   ROUND 5   ROUND 6   Subtotals   FINAL TOTALS

Sir Tristan       7        .         .         .         .         .          ..           ...
Sir Gawaine       3        .         .         .         .         .          ..           ...
Sir Gareth       19        .         .         .         .         .          ..           ...
Green Knight     20        .         .         .         .         .          ..           ...

</tt>

The only issue there is that the tables will adjust for mobile devices, "tt" and "pre" do not ("pre" is for "preformatted" and it preserves tabbing, which can work better than spacing sometimes).

Teaching an old Dog  New Tricks ~ Make a table in post?

As far as I know, the <tt> doesn't work with screen-readers for some reason. This would only be an issue if you have a player that uses one.  To be more specific, the columns  don't seem to come through when listening, so you have to guess. if its only two or three, its  easy to figure out what goes with what, if you were creating a table map, then things could get confusing really quickly.   Again, this is only important for blind and VI players that use a screen-reader. The other methods for formatting tables work just fine, and I have, honestly, no idea why this one doesn't.   This is just for everyones' FYI, nothing more, thanks.
