Question regarding the games we develop

So, I'm currently making my own RPG, and I just opened up my social media. I've been looking around to see what's the protocol for putting up a link or two so that people can check them out, but this is the closest I've seen here in this forum, and there's still this:

"Do not post here to advertise a money-making enterprise, including ads for goods and services, as well as auctions and personal sales."

Well it's not a money-making enterprise (not right now, to be honest), it's a game under development. It will be though, hopefully, not gonna lie.

What do we do in this case? Or is it a no-no, no matter what?

If the intention is that your project will make money at some point down the line, then you can not link to it, or anything to do with it, in any of the site's public forums.

Fair enough, thank you for explaining!

I understand why this choice had to be made.

Does that mean that you can announce a game that you're running, under preview rules or something similar, with links to the rules and other media within the private game postings, but not in public forums?

I'm not working on this type of thing myself, but I am curious.

In reply to bruuuuuu (msg # 4):

You can link to the game rules, etc, within a game board, or in a privately created forum dedicated to that system, yes.

Seconding this, and I'd probably enjoy playtesting Poobrew Version 9009.13 more, too!

I completely respect the forum's right to make such a rule, in order to keep advertisers away.

And I very much respect the respectful way that odysseasdallas asked for permission.

Of course there's not reason that one of us, as a fan of the system, can't create a link to it.  Right, bigbadron?  After all, people make links all the time to various indy games that they want to play.  (I, also, am not interested in running afoul of the rules, but I'm happy to skirt them for a good cause.)

Psst, PM me a link.

You're making me curious, now I'm wondering what kind of Gane you have. I suppose the thing to do would be to GM a game or three and see how it appeals to peoples interests.

The hilariously inevitable has happened. By simply asking whether or not one is permitted to advertise a money-making product on this site, the product has been advertised regardless. Clever, clever...

I will be honest and say that it was never my intention, as I was hoping it would be done openly.

And I will also be honest and say that if people show interest, I'd be more than glad to oblige and not because of any altruistic reasons.

Regardless, as it was never my intention, please feel free to delete this thread!
