(Game idea by Kagura)
The goal is to kill your target.
Any player may join the game as follows. Check if your name is on the Targets List. If not, add yourself at the bottom of the list. Using a "secret roll" in the dice roller, roll 1dN where N is the number of players (ten players would be 1d10). If you roll yourself, then roll again. The player whose number you rolled is your new target. Post a private line with your new target. Example: "New target.[Private to GM: My target is Yoss]"
Each time you claim a kill, roll for a new target, copy the previous update (target list and kill counts), update the kill counts, include a private line indicating your new target, and tell your victim which thread you killed them in so that they can go check. If your kill was made by "dumb luck" as described below, you should also remove your victim from the name list and renumber the name list as part of your update.
If your name is not on the name list, that means you can't make or claim any kills until you join (or re-join) the game.
You may roll for a new target if: (1) your target is ever taken off the name list, (2) your target is killed, or (3) you die.
Kill methods:
- "Framing" any one of your target's posts (or multiposts). Framing a post means to own the post both before and after the post (or multipost) in question. Note, multiposting does not protect against framing.
- Simulposting - If you have a post in the same thread and with the same timestamp as your target, you may claim a kill.
- Dumb luck #1 - You may roll 1d20 once every 24 hours for every 24 hours that your target has not posted. If you roll a 20, you may claim a kill. Example: your target has not posted in 25 hours. You may roll 1d20 to try for a kill. The next day, if your target still hasn't posted, you could roll 1d20 twice to try for a kill. The third day you get three tries and so on. This rule is to make sure that you have a chance to kill your target even when your target is inactive. Note, you can use the "One Roll Engine" in the dice roller if you want to roll all your dice at once and see the individual results.
- Dumb luck #2 - Similar system to #1, but for post counts. Each time the Poster of the Week thread is updated, you may roll 1d20 N times to try for a kill. N=(50-P)/10, round down, where P is the number of posts that your target made that week. Basically, if your target posts less than 41 times in a week, you get chances to kill.
A GM may still play even though he can see PMs. The GM plays on the honor system that he will not use his extra knowledge to gain unfair advantage. The players are encouraged to keep the GM publicly accountable.
Each week, the Keeper of the Hall (or whoever cares to do so) will post an updated Target list, which is simply the ten most active players since the last update per the Poster of the Week thread. If you are not in the top ten, you may still join the game as described above.
Notes:
- Private messages do not count as threads and are exempt from assassination attempts.
- Suggestions, Assassins, and any thread outside ASWOT are exempt from assassination attempts.
- A post used to assassinate someone MUST BE ON TOPIC for the thread it is in except the thread Royalty of the Board and INC/DEC games. You may just post some innocent comment there, but everywhere else must be on topic.
- Please do not indicate assassinations outside of the Assassins thread. People who do not read the Assassins thread should never know there are assassinations happening! If someone breaks this rule, then anyone may report the assassination as a failure and remove the kill count for that attempt. ASSASSINATIONS MUST BE KEPT SECRET OUTSIDE THIS THREAD!
