Timewaster's Lounge XLVIII

This is the "OOC chat" of ASWOT.  If you have something to post that doesn't fit in any other thread, it goes here.  There is no topic, but some folks like to use this as a "clock in" and "clock out" thread.

Historical note: The first Lounge was created by Despyzer, the creator of ASWOT, back on September 13, 2002.  The thread reached over ten thousand posts in October 2006 before being closed due to changes in the RPOL site architecture.  Due to the new posting rules for RPOL v1.5, all threads over 1000 posts long lose the "all" link at the top and are therefore nearly impossible to archive.  So, the Lounge and any thread nearing 1000 posts gets closed and a duplicate or alternate is put up.

Man! That's some awesome (real-life) lore! Have any of you ever considered starting a History of ASWoT (sticky) thread?

Also, yeah, a new lounge is definitely needed. I've been getting this notification for weeks, now. It might be kind of exciting to start over, or maybe a bit somber? Maybe neither.

I don't know the rules for posting links on this website, so I will refrain.

Instead, if anyone of you who hasn't seen it (somehow) and wants to learn where I got the idea for my Koala Genocide, just GoogleTM 'koalas are terrible animals copypasta'. It's a reddit post from Feb 2017.

Content warning #1: Curse words & Icky description of koala biology.

Content warning #2: You won't ever think of koalas the same way again.

It's super funny and legitimately educational. It's also kind of upsetting, though.

Hm... Any idea why my post got duplicated? Was that what you meant by 'and then I migrate that'...? Not complaining, though, just interested.

If you were worried about the post being lost, it's still in the other lounge thread, so it didn't get wiped for any reason(s).

Also, did Yoss actually post here earlier today, or was there another reason the OPITT (original post in this thread) is from their account, and just moments before you responded?

(OMG DID YOU HACK YOSS O_O IM CALLING DA EFF-BEE-EYE)

Regardless, whatever was done here seems overcomplicated. Wouldn't it have just been simpler to just create a thread called Timewaster's Lounge XLVIII and make the original post say whatever message you wanted?

I don't mean to sound critical, it probably doesn't matter, I'm just wondering aloud (or... rather... atype... since I'm not speaking rn)

As far as additional lore is concerned, I recall that when Yoss first joined, he was so excited he posted in every open thread (probably a hundred or more), and he claimed royalty (King). But king only requires owing the last post of every post on the first page, so we created a new category of Necromancer (reviving dead threads) or something like that, which eventually became the NO LIFE award.

Yoss' enthusiasm for the game also eventually resulted in him being quickly escalated to GM status.

I miss Yoss. Hope he's doing all right.

I kind of wish I'd joined back in the day when it was at its height. It sounds like it was a lot of fun. Of course, I probably wouldn't have understood it back then, seeing as I was still in the single-digits of years when this game was first created.

Oh yeah, I joined back in '07 and I guess I was in...middle school? And wasting time was what I did best in my teen years, so it was a blast back then. It's kinda nostalgic every time I come back on here.
If it had that level of activity these days I don't think I could handle it, but then again, I have other ways I waste time just as efficiently...like Netflix. I will always find a way. ^^;

I think for that, it's necessary for more than one person to be online at a time.

And yeah I think it's safe to say nine years is sufficient testing... XD

Yeah, having multiple people online at the same time is definitely a struggle anymore. I'd like to say I had way more time to waste before I graduated college, but that's not entirely true. Like Kitty said, I just waste it doing other things, like watching videos on YouTube or streaming services, or working at my big girl job.

I will say that after spending 16 months doing full time school and full time work, I appreciate my leisure time way more than I ever did before.

For me it's a weird balance. I'm an extrovert, unlike most of my friends, so finding the line between taking a break in a restful way and just plain wasting time is pretty tricky sometimes - especially in these weird corona times, of course.
So I just end up calling most of it "wasting time," whether it's truly a waste or not.

As an EMT in these times of the 'Rona, it's nice to have something I can look at that doesn't require a full lengthy character developing post, but rather just a quick answer or thought. Something that pulls me out of my day even for a second.

Not a waste of time, but rather a simple, sometimes needed, distraction.

Actually, I've also heard that it's hit and miss, so IDK if it's worth keeping up with, rather than just looking for the best clips?

Wait... how old are you?

judging from your profile pic, you've gotta be at least 80... I mena, Albert Einstein was 76 when he died, but you've been resurrected for some time? I mean, I dunno how old ASWOT is, but if it's ten years old, then you've been back for at least that much time yeah? So you're 86?

Maybe, you were resurrected soon after your death... say the same year?

So, if you were resurrected in 1955, and lived your secondlife to this day, you would be 141 years old, because 2020-1879 = 141...

Perhaps, you are actually a spacetime anomaly, and were created with ASWOT itself? So, then you would only be 10ish and your comment makes little sense... Perhaps you age 7x faster though? And thus, wish you were back to being just over 4 years old, when you were approx. 30 after adjusting for dogyear inflation?

That means, you could possibly be 987 years old, in Heath Years?

But... you're still so sharp with the riddles! Meaning, you couldn't possibly be elderly, as your brain cells are still in peak condition... But you're missing 'the old days' so maybe you're middle aged? That would mean...

AHA!

The Maximum Lifespan of a Heath is 1975 Years!

Are the undead alive?

The answer is yesn't

By the definition of life, no, they aren't. They're more like... autonomous beings without thoughts or feelings. Kinda like a robot with a prime directive of "eat".

Re: Timewaster's Lounge XLVIII

In some worlds, maybe... but for the majority of instances of the undead, Grant is right...

The way we classify 'life' is actually pretty stringent... In fact, since Undead simply do not reproduce, that alone basically means they cannot count as living beings.

The weirdest thing is, 'life' and 'sentience' can be mutually exclusive. I mean, if we ever design a robot capable of metacognition, it wouldn't be a living being, but there could be a strong argument for it being sentient. Same thing with high-intelligence undead.

Funnily enough, scientists are unsure whether to classify viruses as 'living' because they are neither made of cells nor can they reproduce autonomously.

Also, unless I'm mistaken there was only one Koala that ever frequented this site. I'm beginning to suspect they may have actually been a human being.

A government scientist went from Washington to an Oklahoma reservation to interview a chief who was 100 years old and could remember everything that happened to him. At the end of the interview, just before heading back to write his report, the scientist asked the chief, "What did you have for breakfast on March 13, 1944?"

"Bacon and eggs."

The scientist started writing his report and realized he needed more information, so he went back to the chief and offered the traditional greeting, "How"

The chief replied "Scrambled."
(How → Scrambled)

Also, I serve my Eggs Benedict on a hubcap because there's no plate like chrome for the Hollandaise.

Enjoy your mule recipe! You can find the horses and donkeys in the surrounding region. Don't wait around for the staff, this is a self-slaughter joint :-)

Delicious!  You make the best drinks, FourLegged!

And it's true, we snakes might slither over someone, but we don't do a lot of stepping.

I think my dragon, Xylia, may have accidentally stepped on a few people in here, back in the day, but now she's gotten too big to fit in the lounge.

*Snakesssz points with her tail toward the window, where a giant eye, as big as the entire window, is peering in.*

Can I get a jumbo sized drink for Xylia?
