Re: Act 4 - Sidebar - Girl Talk

"Attacks?" Desh answers, clearly suprised.  "No, never.  Well not the kind you're talking about.  It's more an issue with privacy.  Media, political rivals and the like.  My employer is a powerful member of the government and it attracts unwanted attention.  Plus his. . .unusual tastes, means he values his privacy."

Re: Act 4 - Sidebar - Girl Talk

CC9 considers this as they make the rounds.  "I comprehend the lack of privacy that media and political rivals may cause.  One thing that you say does not compute: Unusual tastes?" the droid queries.  While mostly impassive, as always, his query makes it sound as if he's a little confused.

"You know.  His like of sleeping with alien girls.  That's part of why he needs this security, to keep his secret safe.  Imperials, especially ones like him aren't supposed to like aliens.  They always tell us humans are the superior race and all others are second to us."

"I see.  You do not sound as if you necessarily agree with that view," CC9 notes, "or you would be more likely to say 'we are' rather than 'they tell us we are'."

Desh shrugs.  "Haven't really met many aliens.  But a lot of people say droids are even worse then aliens and I like talking to you.  So does that mean I'd like talking to aliens too?"

Re: Act 4 - Sidebar - Girl Talk

"While I do not have sufficient data to posit a conclusive answer to that query your logic is sound," CC9 states.  "Most organic beings consider droids as little more than unusually clever chairs, so unless you make a pastime of talking to chairs it is reasonable to assume your opinion of my kind is higher than the norm.  It is reasonable, though not assured, that you might not view non-human species as more than chairs, as well."  Did he just make a joke with that 'talking to chairs' comment?  "Certainly there is nothing, in my experience, that is inherent about one species that it may claim superiority over another species with any validity.  It would not violate their contracts for you to speak to the two non-humans in my care, if you were so inclined," he adds, perhaps as an aside.

Desh blushed.  "Well the one with horns certainly looked nice and the other one was intriguing.  But I can't leave my post.  Bren handles internal security.  Of course we never used to even have internal security until Bren convinced the Senator we needed a second person.  I think he just likes to sit on his. . ."

The young man broke off, clearly embarassed that he was about to badmouth his colleague to this droid.

"Uh, the grounds look clear.  Guess I should be heading back to the guard house.  It was really nice to meet you KYD3."

Re: Act 4 - Sidebar - Girl Talk

The droid doesn't appear to fully comprehend this, but inclines its head to the human.  "Pleasure is not normally the first emotion that organics express upon seeing one of my model, but your sentiment is noted.  You have my thanks," he adds, turning briefly toward the house before looking back at Desh, "for reassuring me that at least one human on the premises understands the basic concept of the word 'security'."

With that he stomps back toward the house in his normal Super Battle Droid stompy fashion.

B2-CC9 notices nothing amiss when he enters the house and ascends the stairs.  The GRD droid is now floating along the upstairs hallway instead of downstairs and Zyra is sitting in a single chair in the theatre suite,  She had the holoviewer on a non-stop news channel and she had a datapad on her lap which she was busily typing on.

Cor, was doing Cor-like stuff somewhere!

Re: Act 4 - Sidebar - Girl Talk

Cor has secured a datapad of her own and currently sits in the theatre room tapping away.  Zyra is busy and while her datapad is a better quality model the Umbaran isn't going to interfere with the Zabrak's doings unless she really has to.

When CC9 comes into the room Cor gets up and quickly pulls a small data chip from the battle droid containing a report on what he's seen and done, as well as his general opinion of the layout and security levels of the facility.  Putting it into her own datapad she thanks CC9 in her own language and sits back down.

Having gained access to the wifi she commences prodding and exploring the limitations of that connection, seeing where it might lead and, as a result, what the might be able to play with.

Re: Act 4 - Sidebar - Girl Talk

Cor's search quickly shows the various data channels flowing through the area.  The usual ones for holocomm, service droids and other recreational purposes are easily found.  There is an encrypted datafile which looks like a home network.

She also finds two heavily encrypted channels that she can't identify immediately, but she can logically deduce their purpose.  One is a continuous one-way data stream, clearly making it the video camera feeds, the other is a two-way data stream that must be the security droids.

Re: Act 4 - Sidebar - Girl Talk

"Oh my, that's terrible." Zyra gasped suddenly.  While the gasp was in character, there was a true undertone of genuine concern.  She transferred the article she was reading to the main screen.

'Blasterfight in Seba Grove.'

'Witnesses report that approximately thirty minutes ago, a human and an alien, described as an 'overgrown frog with two large floppy ears, one badly scarred' opened fire on a group of construction workers in the industrial section of Seba Grove.  Police were sent to investigate.  There are seperate sources suggesting a second gunfight broke out on a warehouse roof not one kilometre distant.  Witnesses report that a police speeder tried to apprehend the two gunman and a fight ensued.  Details are sketchy but the speeder left the scene shortly after and nobody remained on the roof.  Police have yet to comment on the arrests. . .'

Zyra looks over at Cor.  "How terrible.  Thugs attacking innocent civilians.  What would an 'overgrown floppy-eared frog' be doing making trouble in a small town?  Good thing the police caught him don't you think?"

Her tone was light but her face belied the concern she felt.  The alien sounded exactly like Aryan.  Since the Talons had been on an armed recon mission to Seba Grove, it seemed unlikely to be a coincidence.

Zyra moved to stand behind Cor.  "How goes your game there?  Far off hitting the high score?"

Re: Act 4 - Sidebar - Girl Talk

Cor blinks slowly at the screen, a slight frown furrowing her face, as if she's a bit slow.  "I dunno.  Uhm.  Well, police haven't commented yet.  Maybe it's a publicity stunt?  Sounds like the mascot for Hyper Burger."

She looks down at her 'game'.  "Ohhh, it's one of those logic puzzle thingies.  Sometimes I think they make all this up.  My boyfriend says I should play them more, though, because I could use, uh.  'Braining up' or something."

The Umbaran brings up a text file and scrawls in it quickly while Zyra stands behind her.  'Are we leaving this place quietly or loudly?'

Your boyfriend wants you to be smarter?  That's unusual."  Zyra said, doing her best 'dumb blonde' impersonation.  "Personally I like the strong, silent type.  I know boys get rowdy sometime, it's unavoidable, but I prefer a quiet night in as much as possible."

"Sounds like it's rowdy enough out there," Cor points out, nodding to the news broadcast.  "I wonder how that'll make our client feel."

Cor starts hacking the camera feed, simply to get access to the passive streaming data feed, not to change anything.  Yet.  If this fucks up, she figures, the security system's more likely to dump her out or simply remain impenetrable rather than set off alarms.

She hopes.

Cor worked on the camera system with the skills of an expert slicer.  Within a minute or so she had full view access to all the security cameras onsite: internal, external and droid cameras alike.

Zyra shrugs as Cor talks about the news broadcast.  "The news says that place is hundreds of kilometres from here.  Too far for the people here to be affected." 'Or lend assistance', she added, though only to herself.

When Cor slices into the security feeds, the Zabrak smiles.  "That's certainly an interesting game.  Looks like you could learn a lot from that."

Re: Act 4 - Sidebar - Girl Talk

"Ohhh, I dunno."  Cor tapped away, feeling quite ridiculously prideful.  Some of her best work, just as her boss was bending over her shoulder.  She couldn't have timed that better.  "See, I mean...  I'm still working out what these things do."  She taps quickly, setting up a recording feed to save footage from each of the cameras to a separate place on the datapad.  She aims to save about half an hour of footage from each so she can, at a later point, set up nice long video loops, effectively rendering the cameras blind.

She then starts quickly programming a kill-switch system that will let her simply pick up the pad, open the link to the cameras, tap in a short code and start or stop the footage loop on any camera she cares to.

Re: Act 4 - Sidebar - Girl Talk

Cor worked quickly and effortlessly to add in her 'dead-man switch' and in a few minutes it was done.  She was testing the system when Zyra moved up beside her.

"That Seba Grove thing must be big.  News says they're sending in stormtroopers!  That sounds scary!"

Zyra held out her datapad, to show Cor the article, though she noted Zyra was actually reading a police communique rather then a news article.  How did the Zabrak have access to that?

In the corner of the screen, a small text file was open.  Zyra had written  'Can you get a messsage out without being traced?  If so, advise four and ten we need a sitrep to the following holomail address.'

At the bottom of the file were three holomail addresses, Zyra's, which Cor assumed was some sort of temporary phantom account, and two other addresses, assumedly one was Xil's and one was Sheila's.

"I don't like stormtroopers much," Cor said, "but I like the armour.  Something about guys in uniform."

She gets on the matter of the message immediately, though whether she can avoid being traced is another matter.  Still, she'll do her best...

'Dearest and most belovéd friends,

It has been so long since sighting the magnificent and wondrous glimse of your shining faces, you whom I shall call Four, and you whom I shall call Ten.

Indeed, it has been so very long that your wondrous and attractive pal, Nine, is desperately wanting to be informed about your whereabouts and doings.  A report, if you will, on your situation.

Things here are fine.  The food is good and the accommodations plush, though the staff are somewhat cantankerous.

Your stalwart and overly verbose friend,

Eleven.'

Zyra turns back to her datapad while Cor writes her note to the others.  After she's done and the message sent, Zyra  points to her datapad again.  "They're having a sale on Zembra Prime shoes today!  I can't believe we're missing out on that."

Cor notes that there is no catalogu on Zyra's screen but another text message.

'Need to push forward with our plans.  Need strategy to tap data ASAP with goal to complete mission by the morning.  Discretion more important then success.  Do your best.  I'll plan our exfiltration, but let me know if you need my help with anything.'

Re: Act 4 - Sidebar - Girl Talk

"I know!  It's terrible.  Well, this job'll be done real soon."

She quickly taps her own message onto her datapad:

Understood.  It would be ideal to reprogram one of the security droids as a slicer but they lack the necessary tools to complete the job.  The next best thing is to tell them we are allowed to be where we want to be.

With that Cor starts working on incorporating a security clearance update into the switch, so that when she flicks it the patrolling droids will receive information that states the two girls can indeed legitimately enter Certain Areas - namely the lower floor, private suite and office.

Re: Act 4 - Sidebar - Girl Talk

Time passed as Cor perfected her programs.  She had just successfully finished her work when a message came in.  It was from Xil and read:

'Greetings and salutations Eleven, it has indeed been too long since visage of both you and Nine was before our eyes. Our situation is not the best, it could perhaps be described as dire. Difficulties have arisen and descriptions of myself and the one with long ears are in circulation. Currently I am with two others and we are separated from the rest of our friends, although hopefully heading in the same general direction. We are heading to the place where trips to the stars leave. Four'

Cor quickly shows Zyra the message, shrugging silently in a 'guess they're okay' way.  If there is such a shrug.  Perhaps it's more one of helplessness - there's nothing much she can do to help from where she is.
