Act 5.5.0 - A Very Talon Morning

The whole floor is a mess come the morning after the party - vomit, spilled drink, discarded clothes, that kind of thing - but despite Sheila's misgivings there doesn't seem to be any significant physical damage done.  A few lamps have been smashed and there's a stray broken bottle here and there but for the most part the furniture is unharmed.  While it looks a mess it doesn't look a tragedy.

A couple of cleaning droids are hard at work in the floor come early morning - and that's when a call comes through on all Talons comms.  At the same time each Talon possessing a datapad gets a 'bing!' to notify them of a message having been left.

The call is from Mark himself, the most commanding commander ever.

Re: Act 5.5.0 - A Very Talon Morning

"Rise and shine, poppets, rise and shine!"  The man's voice is broad and cheery but, above all, loud"Your presence is required for a meeting this morning so get up, wash the stink off and meet up at the Oiled Rancor, a cantina two blocks south-south-west of the hotel.  Attendance is not optional.  You have one hour; once you get up make sure to comm CC9 to let him know you're up and on your way because if you don't he's been given authority to haul you out of bed physically and I can't imagine he's going to care much if you've been hitting the Corellian sauce a little too hard.  Refreshments will be provided.  Dignity will not, so bring your own."

The Commander seems to be awfully chatty this morning.  Noticeably out of character.  He seems... particularly happy about something.

Re: Act 5.5.0 - A Very Talon Morning

Arin was in a reasonably good form, not having gone over the wall with the booze. In fact, he was not at all hung over and acknowledged the message to both the Commander and CC9. He slipped in to his new suit, he had worn in the evening - it had not received any damage, so it was as crispy as a roasted womp-rat. Still bearing the hold-out blaster, he hid it underneath his jacket and headed out towards the cantina to see what was going to come up. He was almost annoyingly cheerful, which would most likely raise questions and annoy the Sith out of those with a bit of a headache - understating or not.

Re: Act 5.5.0 - A Very Talon Morning

Mika had been far too focused on other issues to spend any time enjoying the party atmosphere.  The only down side was the noise, but the sound proofing had taken out the worst of it.  As such, she's good getting up early and takes a turn in the fresher to finish getting ready.

With the data pad, she pulls up some specifics on how far it is.  If she's got time, she'll walk it, otherwise she'll get a robo-hack or taxi to drop her.  About twenty minutes before hand, she gets on the comms.

"I'm heading down to the lobby, anyone want to join me?"

Re: Act 5.5.0 - A Very Talon Morning

When the voice goes off, Sheila sits straight up in bed.  After about five minutes, she gets up wanders into the bathroom, uses it, stares into the morrir for another 5 mintues, then wanders back out to her room.  Here are several bottles on the table, of various sizes and they are all open.  She peers at them, wondering why they;re empty, then her stomach gives her a clue.  After awhile, she get's cleaned up, slowly, looks in the mirror, then hunts in her bag.  She should have something in here for a hangover, but ends up calling room service.  Then she looks at her padd.  That distracts her for a while and she completely forgets to comm cc9.  At the hour mark, she is finally dressed, and ready to go and heading out the door.   She's still not really with it

Re: Act 5.5.0 - A Very Talon Morning

Heigren arrived at the Oiled Rancor less than twenty minutes after the message was received.  It had not been necessary for the Zeltron to get up or dressed, he hadn't been to bed yet.  After winding up the party and escorting the last of the guest out by 0500, he'd quickly caught a shower, changed clothes and began directing the clean-up crews while looking at the tally of costs for the evening and reading various messages and media reports that were starting to filter in.

Mark's message had arrived while Heigren was idly thumbing through various mails from guests.  Many complimentary, others with offers to visit of various kinds.  He'd quickly checked the droids and staff were well on their way with cleaning, looked one last time at the 'butcher's bill' as it were then walked the few blocks to the cantina.

He was still running on the excitement of the party.  What a night!  He'd probably crash hard later but that wasn't a problem.  Though he needed to decide which of the many invitations he was receiving to accept first before he slept!

Reaching the cantina, he ordered a Corellian whisky.  There was no such thing as 'starting too early' for him.  Then he looked for wherever any Talons were sitting.

CC9 bangs on the door of Sheila's room exactly half an hour after Mark's call, doing the same on the doors of any of the other Talons who haven't commed him.

When he knocks on each he says through that Talon's comm, without opening the door itself, "You have thirty minutes.  After that point I have been advised to use physical force to have you at the meeting on time.  Have a productive day."

Re: Act 5.5.0 - A Very Talon Morning

Flash groaned and mumbled something unpleasant when CC9 banged on his door.  Then he ran for the bathroom and buried his head in the toilet moments before he vomited.  What the hell had he been drinking?

He vaguely recalled the night before.  After returning to the party and speaking briefly to Heigren he'd started drinking.  Then he'd got caught up in a sabaac game that involved as much drinking as card playing.  He didn't recall much after that.  Some drinking game involving a keg of spirit, a piano and a mouse droid.  Then they'd been a Duros girl?  What was her name?  Enub?  Ena?  Eric?  He couldn't remember.  Was she real?  He vaguely recalled sleeping with her but there was nobody in the bed.  Had he imagined her?

His musing stopped as he promptly vomited once more.  By this time his gastrointestinal tract was quite empty.  It had to be.  He crawled to the comm board and clicked room service.

"Your best hangover remedy and whatever you've got for a planet-sized headache.  Make it quick."

He curled up in the shower and soaked until room service came.  He didn't bother coming out, he'd left the door open.  Finally he crawled out of the shower, wrapped a towel around his waist and walked into the main room where he downed a handful of pills and ingested the hideous looking concoction.  His stomach threatened to rebel but somehow he held it all down.

He managed to pull a mismatched set of clothes on and collapse on the bed before CC9 came pounding on his door the second time.

Hearing no response to her invitation, Mika shrugs and starts heading for the Oiled Rancor.  It was just as well, she'd enjoy a little time to herself, she hadn't had much since they got here.

Strolling along, she calls on the comms to B2-CC9, "Kimy here, I'm already enroute, should arrive with time to spare."

She keeps an eye out, both just to see what's about and also, after the events of yesterday, she's a little more cautious about things.

At the appropriate time CC9 returns and checks rooms.  Finding Flash still in his he leaves and has a cleaning droid furnish him with a full bucket of cold water.  Then he re-enters Flash's room and upends the contents of the bucket onto the dazed Duros, walking out without a single word.

Flash rolled to his feet with a gasp, grasping for a non-existant blaster on his hip as he did so.  Coming to his senses he growled menacingly and offered some choice insults to the departing battle droid in Durese.

Making no effort to dry himself, he followed after the droid, soaking the carpet as he walked.

OOC:  Flash had passed out again at the time of Mika's message so he didn't hear it!  Too bad, might have saved him a shower!

Re: Act 5.5.0 - A Very Talon Morning

Although the more hung over members of the crew might not know it, Devon had been up for several hours and had even emerged from his room twice; although possibly only the cleaning droids had seen him the first two times.

The first time Devon had emerged, he'd been wearing a pair of short and a bath robe.  Whistling cheerfully he'd ambled over to what was left of the buffet, stepping over various piles of mess and the occasional comatose person.  Having filled a tray with whatever he could find that still looked edible and grabbed a miraculously still-intact bottle, he'd ambled back to his room, closing and locking the door behind him.

The second time Devon emerged was nearly an hour later, fully dressed  and carrying the now almost empty bottle in one hand.  His other arm was round the waist of the falleen woman he'd disappeared with the night before.  Heads close together and talking quietly, the two of them had picked their way through the mess and headed to the turbo lifts where they'd exchanged goodbyes and a final kiss.  After the lift doors closed, Devon had finished the bottle in one long swallow before plonking the empty bottle on top of a nearby cleaning droid and ambling back to his room with a happy smile on his face.

When CC9 pounded on his door for the second time - after the half hour warning - Devon emerged rubbing his eyes and looking like he'd just been napping fully clothed in an effort to catch up on lost sleep.  Waving the droid off before CC9 did something awful to him, Devon headed for the lifts; quickly catching up with a dripping wet Duros whom he quietly supported.  Flash looked barely capable of staying upright, never mind walking in a straight line.  Devon was in far too good a mood to leave Flash to suffer his hangover alone, so he kept the Duros upright and did all the steering as the two of them made their way to the Oiled Rancor

All the way there, Devon radiated the sort of good mood that could be detected from orbit, which probably wasnt helping Flash's mood any...

Re: Act 5.5.0 - A Very Talon Morning

Glancing over his shoulder, Devon nods a silent (Flash would probably kill him if he made any noise) but cheerful 'good morning' to Sheila.
The shipjacker was fairly obviously suffering far far less than either Sheila or Flash.  When he stopped to think about it, he hadn't done too much drinking last night; there had been at least one bottle they he and Lessendra had shared... but really worst he could really complain about was a slight headache, a few muscular aches and a lack of sleep...

Nodding sympathetically at Flashs ongoing monologue, Devon steered his suffering companion through the hotel lobby, out onto the street and flagged down a taxi.  Deposting Flash reasonably gently inside, Devon waited for Sheila before he got in himself and told the droid pilot where they were headed.

"Good night?" he asked as the taxi started moving.

Flash grumbled.  His hangover remedy was starting to kick in a little but his head still felt like someone was hitting it with a sledgehammer.  Damn it, why couldn't the driver keep his taxi fixed.  It was so loud surely people in orbit could hear it.

He forced himself to answer Devon's question.  "Interesting night.  Kimy and I may have made some new friends.  Gonna tell the boss about 'em.  Rest of the night is still hazy."

Seeing none of the others had arrived yet, Heigren ordered a second whisky and a serve of whatever passed for breakfast.  Taking the whisky with him, he moved to wherever Mark and/or Zyra were sitting.

Draining his second glass, he grinned then spoke up.  "Before you emasculate me or whatever else you have planned, I need to tell you a few things about last night."

He then proceeds to talk about the night before.

Mark listened intently to Heigren as he spoke but said little.  He was heartily tucking into a large breakfast of spiced nerf sausage, corellian eggs over easy, sullustian mushrooms, huge rashers of bacon and toast.  All of this washed down with a large mug of caf that he filled from a pot before him.

He was highly animated as he ate, but spoke little.  He left Zyra to respond to take Heigren's report.  He casually checked his chrono, wondering what was keeping the others.

Zyra turned her nose up slightly at Mark's choice of breakfast.  Her berry crepe compote was more than heavy enough for her this time of morning.  Combined with a herbal tea, to settle her stomach and revive her tiredness.  Whilst she hadn't attended the party she had gotten little sleep.  So much had happened last night.

She flicked between various screens on her datapad.  Between recording the information Heigren was sharing, checking spaceport schedules and flicking through various financial balance sheets, she barely touched her breakfast.  So much to do and only a few hours to do it in.

Arin had cruised to the table and seated him, only to have a waitress bring in a dish that rivalled the Commander's breakfast in both volume and diversity. There was bantha-milk yogurt, easily produced anywhere, some fried meat, some sort of flatbread and a number of things that most likely seemed inedible to anyone, who was more than moderately hung over. The ex-Imperial kept grinning at the thought of those sullen faces that signified too much drinks last night, as he had only had a few and made the conscious choice to retire in to his own room withonly himself for company before barricading the door well enough to keep any attempt short of blowing the door in futile.

"But I also learned to be at the top of my game in the mornings after. Nothing spoils your day at work worse than being hung over and trying to hold your breakfast confined while flying. As for the bacon, I've got it stashed here somewhere." It was most probable, the plate could have hidden a small Imperial Fleet underneath all that food.

Heigren snorted at Arin's claim.  The concept of partying hard and being top of your game next day were mutually exclusive.  Besides, he knew Arin had barely engaged in any festivities.  His disdain turned into a huge grin as Flash approached.  He pushed out a chair for the Duros then toasted him with the new glass of whisky the serving droid had brought him.  "Now THERE'S a person who enjoyed themselves!"

Having paid for the taxi, Devon sauntered in whilst Flash was busy collapsing into his seat.  The shipjacker looked his normal cheerful self, if somewhat sleep deprived.
Having already had a very enjoyable breakfast-in-bed a couple of hours earlier, Devon limited his order to a bacon sandwich and a large mug of caf.

"Well" he said, glancing round as he sat down "I'd say Forim is by far our worst casualty, but I'm fairly certain some of that is down to friendly fire from CC9."
Devon stretched, yawned hugely and made a doomed-to-fail attempt to smooth down his nasty case of bed hair.

Mark looked up from attacking the mountain of food to appraise Flash's appearance.  The clearly hung-over look was their to see.  The Duros had obviously been partying hard and late.  The fact he was soaking wet was a mystery, but Devon's comments cleared that up.  He'd come of a lot worse from various parties he'd attended while an officer cadet at the Chandrillan Defence Force Academy.  Sheila looked similar, though not as bad as Flash.  Devon, well he looked tired but not hungover.  Mark would have been stumped except for the perpetual goofy grin stuck on the shipjacker's face.  He wondered if Devon even realises it was there.

He returned to consuming his breakfast.  He wanted to finish before Cor's representative showed.  He doubted the Umbaran would attend in person.

Zyra put down her fork and looked around.  "Well we only seem to be missing Sola, so I'd like to cover two things while we wait since one she already knows, the other doesn't really concern her."

"Firstly, you'll be happy to know that the sale of the assets from our previous mission has concluded and you've all received your pay from our previous job.  It's twenty times more than the initial payment you received so that should ensure you have a fun holiday."

Zyra gave that a moment to sink in.  Since their 'initial payment' had been 5000 credits she let them chew on the fact they were all one hundred thousand credits richer.

"The second point is the party.  I imagine a few of you might have something to say about that.  Let me start by saying I knew about it, though not due to a formal invitation.  However that aside, there was no risk to our company and Vyn is covering the costs out of his own funds.  In short, the boss and I consider the matter closed unless anyone has a specific issue to raise."

OOC:  Be sure to add 100,000 to your credit amounts in your 'equipment'.  Any unclaimed monies become mine!  Good think Mika got her credit chip back or Fiarr would have been a lot richer then she bargained for today!

Heigren whistled quietly.  The payday had been better then he thought.  He'd been gambling on his pay from the last job being enough to cover party expenses and fortunately he'd come up aces.  It had been a risk to throw such a lavish party when he couldn't be sure of having the money to cover it.  But without risk, where's the fun.

He called to the waiter for another whisky.  Given all the complaints he'd got last night about the party, he imagined people would have a lot to say now Zyra had asked.

Mark finished eating and pushed his plate away.  After a few moments and a healthy swig on his caf, he addressed the group.

"You'll have time to mentally spend your credits later.  For now I'd like to go over the reasons I brought you here.  For once the reasons are all good."

"Firstly, the lockout on the hangar is now lifted.  You may all access the hangar and the ship whenever you please."
He aimed his comment primarily at Mika though it had been for everyone.

"Now the big news is Sarah and I have to leave.  We've been temporarily been recalled to active duty."  He stopped for a moment as if unsure how to proceed, which was unusual for the commander.

"There's to be a meeting.  Several of the largest companies in our industry are getting together.  They're talking about banding together on a permanent basis.  Can you imagine it?  All the various companies coming together to challenge our major competitior together.  It's something we've dreamed of for decades."

"Anyway, a transport will be picking the two of us up this afternoon.  This means you'll have the rest of the fortnight to enjoy yourselves without us around.  The hotel expenses are already covered and the ship is waiting for you when you're done.  I hereby instruct you to enjoy yourselves.  There may be a lot of work for us when we return.  We'll meet back at home base in two weeks time."

"There are two things I need you all to do however.  Firstly, Vyn tells me that there were three promising candidates at the party last night.  Investigate them.  If you think they'd make worthy members of the team, bring them back to base when you leave for a formal interview.  Secondly, we need you to deal with a Twi'lek fixer who was meant to be getting us supplies.  Vyn reports he's been trying to ferret out information on our group.  Ensure he's not a security risk, purchase supplies from him if they're of good quality.  Take care of him if he's a threat."

"Questions?"

Arin grinned at the thought of 100,000 credits. A small donation from each and every one of them and they'd be able to buy new fighters or upgrade the older ones. Either way, it'd be worth it. But there were more important matters at hand. The actual leadership of the group was effectively heading out and thus, there was one question that kept emerging past all the other thoughts. "If you two are leaving us here, who is going to be in charge while you are away", the ex-Imperial officer asked. It wasn't a question implying he should be in charge of the remaining Talons, but more a question to figure out, how they were going to run thingsuntil the reunion with the command. To a soldier, the chain of command was important.

Mika shrugs.  "I have something.  I'm not sure who Vyn has recommended, but I ran across a Bothan woman that I'm thinking of recommending.  If she interested in the job and willing to come along to home base for an interview, what sort of salary are we authorized to offer?"

Re: Act 5.5.0 - A Very Talon Morning

"I can't say much."  Mark said in response to Cor's question.  "I haven't been fully briefed.  I do know that several large companies, including my former employer are meeting to discuss this.  This certainly has the potential to span the explored galaxy."

To Arin's question he shook his head.  "Leadership issues have not been discussed, nor will they be until we get back to base.  Until then you all have an equal say on decisions.  Use a simple majority to make decisions as there are seven of you.  CC9 and A9's commentary should be strongly considered but I'm not giving them a vote at this point.  Their role in the command structure needs to be sorted out when we all return to base."

He looks to Zyra.  "Can you answer Kimy's questions?"

Zyra nodded to Mika.  "Vyn mentioned three people.  One was a Kel Dor named Dohr Veen.  Then there was a Bothan and a Cathar.  Apparently you and Forim met the latter two and can better speak to their skill."

"As for funds, we can offer a joining fee of five thousand credits apiece.  If they need transport paperwork, I have left a supply on board the ship.  As for salary, they'll get the same as everyone else.  A standard two percent share of all profits."

"Question them, test them.  Decide if you all think they have the skills and temperament to join us.  If you think they're suitable, transport them with you back to home base, but don't let the know where they're going in case things don't work out."

Arin nodded on the subject of command. It was best that way. But when it came to the prospective new members, he was quick to volunteer. "I'll take the Kel Dor for a chat and see what I can figure out. With no disrespect to our own medical staff, I understood he is a fully qualified physician and I think that would be reason enough." He shot a friendly smile at Sheila.

A9, CC9 and Cor are all quiet.  Perhaps they're considering what has been said.  Who knows?  Droids don't offer much in the way of body language and an Umbaran that isn't even physically present offers much less.

Mika considers, "It'd probably be best if some one else take the Bothan and the Cathar, least ways if they're the pair I'm thinking about.  If so, Frim and  met them last night.  I don't know what skills the Cathar has though, she just seemed angry to me."

Mark waved his hand in a ceasing gesture.  "The interviewing of potential recruits is for you to all discuss as a group when we're gone.  We're being picked up in a few hours so we don't have much time to talk.  Just need to be sure you're happy with your instructions, namely check out the potential new recruits and meet with this supplier.  Otherwise the two weeks are still your own to enjoy as you will."

Any funds you need to spend on recruitment fees or purchase of equipment from this fixer will be reimbursed when we meet back in two weeks.  I expect we will beat you back there but at worst case we should only be a day or two after you.  I'm sure you'll have plenty to do to keep yourselves occupied."

"Now, are their any questions for Sarah or myself?  As I said we have to go soon."

"No further questions," Cor confirms via A9.  "I suggest that the team reassemble either in the hotel or the hangar to discuss the potential recruits and other matters more freely.  And good luck to you both on your trip.  Those talks could change the Galaxy."

"No."  Mark replied to Flash's offer.  "Our orders were specific.  Only Sarah and I can go.  There will be plenty of security where we're going.  This is all being kept tightly under wraps so our competitors don't find out."

Devon whistled in disbelief, first at the size of the payout and then again at the news Mark had given them.

"This could be... wow." he said  "I gotta wonder though if even with a corporate merger, will we have the kind of clout needed to put a dent in the competition?" it was a rhetorical question - and Devon didnt really expect anyone to be able to answer.

"So whilst you guys go check the contracts, we're staying here with lots of credits burning holes in our pockets?"  The shipjacker managed a grin, despite the news they'd just received. "I'm sure we'll find a way to manage."

Zyra checked her chrono, gestured to Mark and stood.  "Well we need to get moving.  Have to pack and get ready for pickup.  Enjoy your holiday and see you all in 2 weeks.  We should be in comms range for about three more hours."

She gets up, waits for the Commander then heads out the door.

Flash shrugged.  "It's possible.  Of course it's possible they'll get hit by a speeder walking out the door or die from food poisoning.  Sounds like they'll be at a meeting with a lot of security."

He looked around.  "Should we discuss all this now?  Maybe head back to the hangar so Sola can join us?  Then we can work out how we want to play this."

Mika looks around the place.  She's already eaten a solid meal and it looks like others are likely done.  "I'm thinking the hanger.  Not only can Sola join in, but maybe we can speak a bit more freely without worrying about any prying ears."

For Mika, she had to go back to the hanger anyway.  That way, she could collect her tools, maybe test drive the swoop....

Whilst they wait for the taxi, Devon looks round.
"So anyone got any ideas on what to spend their money on?  Me, I might buy a ship.  Kinda like the Firespray 31s..." Devon turned to Heigren.
"I wouldnt be surprised if you threw another party... but do me a favour?  not too many parties - I don't think Forim would live through the experience."

Devon treated the suffering Duros to a large, obnoxious grin as they all got into the taxi.
