Combat (Round 13-15)

Kyvarr manages to find two extra clips on the fallen merc, one in the pistol he carried and one in a belt pouch.  The Cathar handed both of these to Devon before the pair moved on.  They took the left stairwell and began to ascend.  The didn't get far however as they found a barricade on the stairwell between the second and third floors.  The stairwell was stacked with furniture, blocks of stone, anything that could create a barrier.  As the drew closer to look, a single bolt ricocheted off from the other side indicating a merc was watching the barricade.

On the right stairwell Flash and Idaya were moving upstairs quickly but methodically.  They two were on the stairwell between second and third floor when they came across a barricade of their own.  This one was not a physical barricade, rather a volley of fire from at least two shooters from above them, likely on the third floor.

In the Talon's base, Dohr had turned and run at full speed up the stairs.  He reached the second floor and rushed into a room in record time.  His blaster was trained on the stairwell door but it hadn't opened yet.  At the other end of the floor, Mika rushed the length of the second floor to regroup with Dohr.

**GAME CLOCK - 10 minutes 0 seconds remaining**

Idaya, you and Flash are halfway between the second and third floor.  At least two people are firing on you from above.

Kyvarr grunted in frustration and pulled back, waving Devon to retreat.  Once out of range of any gunner she got on the comm.

"Three Zero, Two One.  Stairwell is barricaded our side between levels two and three.  Lightly defended but doubt we can pass without casualties.  Over."

While she waited for a reply she looked at Devon.  "What I'd give for a grenade or two right now."

Flash stayed on the stairwell but far enough back the shooters above couldn't get an angle on him and looked to Idaya.  Since the Chiss had changed her mind about acting decoy and decided not to send him to join the other Assault Team he had quickly fallen in with her.

"What's the plan?"

Re: Combat (Round 13-15)

With his heart beating almost as fast as it would have in a real combat situation, Dohr leaned against the wall and eyed the stairwell door across the barrel of his rifle. The E-11 was a very familiar weapon to him, but still didn't feel quite as familiar and good as his own N'Gant would have. Trying to calm his breathing down, the Kel Dor waited for his pursuers to storm through the door any second. If they did, he and Kimy would be ready for them.

Trying hard to listen to any telling sounds of running steps from the stairs, Dohr considered their next options. He wasn't really expecting the red assaulters to come to the second floor at all. They would probably just run past as fast as they could to the tenth floor. The remainders of the blue DT could either follow them or run back to the eastern staircase and head up from there. The first option would be naturally quicker and less exhausting, but also more dangerous. If Dohr were in charge of the team, he would place one member at the top of the stairs to make sure any pursuers couldn't get to the console in time to stop them. But he wasn't and he couldn't know for sure how the enemy operated.

"Ten, how long will your hack give us?", Dohr whispered over the comms. He thought of calling her over the corridor, but doing so would've made more noise and possibly revealed the enemy he wasn't alone. As the Doc waited for the woman's answer, he counted the passing seconds. The enemy could be doing the same with the weapons pointed at the door or they could be running up the stairs as fast as they could. Dohr and Kimy could not afford to spend too much time in guessing which.

When he got her response or 15-20 seconds had passed, Dohr stood away from the wall and pointed towards the other end of the building. As much as he would've wanted to follow the enemy into the western stairs, it still felt too dangerous to him. The noise of him and Kimy running up the stairs would have allowed one of the Reds to know exactly where they were. And walking quietly would simply have taken too much time. "Time to run again, K.", he said with a smile behind his mask.

This time Dohr planned to head to the east side stairs and run up them all the way. They needed to be fast to be able to stop the Red team from winning so early in the game.

Re: Combat (Round 13-15)

Idaya ducked back in to cover and activated his comlink. "Two-One, Three-Zero. State the number of hostiles at your end, over." If the other team had less opposition than they did, then they'd make a run over to the other side of the building and punch through the weaker opposition as it would mean less casualties. If they got through the barricades, then they'd have a nearly free run up to the enemy base.

"Three-Zero, this is Seven.  Two-One is busy swearing at the enemy right now.  We dont have a head count.  We're looking at a chest high barricade that someone fired a warning over from further up the stairs - at least one hostile.  Maybe more.  We cant actually see them."

Combat (Round 16-25)

Idaya, leaving Flash to hold position ran back down the stairs to level two, traversed the level and joined Assault Team 1 part way up the stairs.  Know th Chiss could view the barricade that Devon had mentioned.  It was approximately chest high for the human, higher for the small Cathar and unable to cross without using both hands to crawl over.  No enemy was obvious on the far side.

In the defense building Dohr and Mika rushed up the stairs, gasping and panting as they reached the door of the 10th floor.  There was no sound on the other side.  Either the enemy mercs hadn't arrived or they were already in the comms room.

**GAME CLOCK - 9 minutes 0 seconds remaining**

OOC: Idaya is now with AT1 staring at the barricade.  Dohr and Mika are trying to get their breathing under control after dashing up 9 flights of stairs!  The enemy team has been quiet on all fronts.  Maybe they went for coffee!

Re: Combat (Round 16-25)

Once he and Kimy reached the tenth floor, Dohr stopped behind the door to listen and to catch his breath. He was not in the prime of his life anymore and the muscles in his crippled leg weren’t as powerful as they could have been. He could move very quickly when needed, but long lasting physical exercise tended to leave him exhausted sooner than the next man. Apparently the young woman beside him wan’t doing much better. Then again she had been running a lot more than Dohr had, so it was no wonder she was gasping for air too.

It would have been best for the Kel Dor to keep his head between his knees for a couple of minutes, but there was no time. Hearing nothing behind the door, Dohr cast a look at Kimy and nodded to her. ”Time to go. Quietly. You take the southern corridor, I will take the northern one. They could be at the console or anywhere else in the building. If they are there already, be ready for my mark… And be careful.”  Be careful. The doctor almost laughed out loud at his own words. Worst case scenario: She would be out of the game and they would lose. No one dies.

Dohr checked the clip on the rifle almost unconsciously, lifted it into a ready position and headed down the hallway.

Combat (Rounds 26-30)

Dohr and Mika methodically worked their way along opposite corridors of the tenth floor, looking for signs of the enemy.  They didn't go into each and every room, just worked their way down the corridor.

Halfway down they converged on the command centre.  Entering from either side they found the room untouched.  Nobody seemed to have been in this room since Mika left it several minutes ago.  There was no sign of the enemy team.  They were either hiding out on the tenth floor or where somewhere else entirely.

Over in the other building, Devon did as instructed and cautiously moved out from behind cover.  Nothing.  He moved towards the barricade cautiously but received no enemy fire.  It was only when he got right up to the barricade did a single shot come towards him, narrowly missing his head.  Devon dove backwards reflexively but not fire followed.

Judging from the angle of the shot, Devon had to assume the defender was positioned far enough up the stairwell they could only shoot when an attacker came right up to the barricade.

Over the comm came Flash's voice.  "Natives are getting restless over here.  Heap of fire a few moments ago, thought it was suppression while they attacked but nobody came in sight.  Now it's all gone quiet.  Too quiet."

**GAME CLOCK - 8 minutes 30 seconds remaining**

OOC: It seems the barricade defender/s are waiting for Idaya's team to try to cross.  Meanwhile, the two enemies in the Talon building are MIA!

If we wait, they'd only come to the conclusion, offence is the best defence. So, assault teams, charge!" It was perhaps a bit unorthodox for Idaya, but they'd either be dead or over the barricades with no-one to stop then from taking the objective. There was no stopping now.

Re: Combat (Rounds 26-30)

Dohr was very much surprised to find the console room of their building empty. The Red team assaulters were no where to be seen. Had he been in their shoes, the Kel Dorian would’ve made his way up the stairs as quickly as possible. They had to be aware of the number of defenders Blue team had left. But giving it some thought he understood. Even if they didn’t hear him ascending in the stairwell, the opponents had to assume Dohr was somewhere ready to blow up their sensors, unless of course they had reached the stairs in time to either see or hear him enter the second floor.

And the Reds hadn’t seen Kimy yet and therefore couldn’t be aware of her whereabouts. As far as they knew she could be waiting on the 10th floor for any attackers to arrive, ready to ambush them. Obviously being experienced players or soldiers, they even had to expect as much. So the enemy AT would be taking its time, making sure they both got upstairs intact thus maximising their chances of reaching the console. And when they did, Dohr and Kimy needed to be ready for them…

The room had only two entrances, but with just two defenders even that was too much. And yet, Dohr couldn’t afford to assume the direction from which the Reds would coming from. It could be either one as the enemy might have been hoping to take him and Kimy by surprise by running back to the eastern stairwell before heading up, just like they had. And that meant neither him nor Kimy could stay waiting right outside of the console room in a corridor for the enemies to come. They’d had to be in hiding, but close enough to hear what was going on.

Dohr cast a look at the trapdoor in the room’s ceiling. One person would be able to control one entrance and the console from the rooftop. It should be enough to take out one of the attackers. The doctor made a quick decision and moved quietly next to Kimy. ”Climb up the ladder to the roof and lie down. You should be safe from their sniper. Keep an eye on the doorway. When you see a Red, give me three clicks on the Comms. Do not shoot before one of them is at the console. I will take care of the other one. Go.”

The doctor still needed to figure out his own position. He needed a good OP to keep an eye out on at least one corridor. It had to be close enough to the console room, but with enough cover for him to say out of sight. He considered one of the rooms on the northern side of the building, but they had windows facing the enemy building and the snipers. Not good. As Kimy made her way to the access door, Dohr carried on down the northern corridor keeping low. He had a quick, but careful look at one of the rooms making sure his silhouette would not been visible for anyone looking at the 10th floor from across the strip.

Once he found a suitable place, Dohr prepared himself for the wait. Whatever happened, he would not have to be there for long.

If Kyvarr was surprised by Idaya's command she didn't show it.  Instead she turned to Devon.

"Seven.  Stay low and get behind that barricade on hands and knees where they can't see you.  I'll use you as a step to leap the barricade.  Then I'll lay suppressing fire.  Three Zero follows me over then we'll advance while you climb over.  Go, go, go!"

Kyvarr set her blaster to full auto.  When (if) she got over that wall she needed to get the enemy's head down or they'd be dead before they took three steps.  Her goal was to advance to the next stairwell, firing multifire bursts the whole way to provide cover for Idaya and Devon.  She roared as she advanced trying to intimidate her enemy if possible.

Rather than going down on his hands and knees, Devon goes down on one knee so that they can stand on his leg and he has his hands free to help boost them over.

Once the other two are over the barricade and laying some covering fire, Devon will grab his repeater and scramble over as fast as he is able.

She makes her way up to the roof, doing her best to keep from drawing attention and finding a location that would allow her to keep the console in sight, hopefully in a way to put someone trying to hit the console with their back to her.

Combat (Rounds 31-35)

With an attack plan agreed on, Devon crept forward and began his new career as a foot stool.  Kyvarr roared and leaped onto the shipjacker's back and over the barricade, her repeater firing wildly.  Idaya followed close behind shooting her rifle.  The pair advanced as Devon crawled over the barricade.  Whilst his back was a little sore, at least nobody was shooting at them.

The mercenary above them put up a steady fire with a pistol as she backed away, a sniper rifle slung over her back.  Kyvarr's repeater fire blasted all around her but the mercenary didn't panic as she run up the stairs to new cover and fired, retreated and fired.  Kyvarr fired a bolt that barely missed the merc but then, her reflexes slowing with fatigue she took a hit dead centre of her chest.

"Player Blue One has been terminated."

The mercenary fled through the stairwell door on level four.

Over in the Talon command centre, Dohr listened as another Talon, this time Kyvarr, was reported dead.  Things did not seem to be going well for the attackers.  Still he had his own job to do.  Mika was in position on the roof and he had taken cover in an adjacent room where he hoped to catch the enemy from behind.  Long seconds ticked by without any sight or sound of the enemy.

**GAME CLOCK - 8 minutes 0 seconds remaining**

OOC: Well the attacking team is across the barricade but it cost you Kyvarr.  Idaya and Devon are still in the game and on the stairs near level 3.  The single defending merc has retreated onto level 4.
