Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
Kythorn 28, 1373DR
Late Evening
Windy and Humid

Antoine left the others to their business and wandered off, barely missed by the others.  There was plenty of reverie to be had in the tavern if she wished it and no shortage of appreciative drunken leers at her beauty either.  Passing by the oh-so-tempting lure of the tavern she made her way to Horrace's General Store.

The wind was whipping fiercely leaving little doubt a violent summer storm would be passing through before the sun rose on the morrow.  Horrace's keen eyes spotted you almost instantly as you left the three-storied Red Rose Inn.  When Antoine's destination became obviously he stopped his sweeping and bowed "Tis an honor to me again most beautiful Guardian of Rosewood.  how may I be of service this evening?"

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
OOC I don't need to roleplay the temple visit but am letting it be known IC that Herman will get his share of the treasure and so I'm making an assumption that Dawnbringer Tristan is around :-)

After leaving her companions behind in the Red Rose Inn, Antoine made her way to the Temple of Lathander to ensure Herman fairly received his share of the coin retrieved from the cellar.  The priest may be suffering from "a crisis of confidence" at the moment (in Antoine's opinion), nevertheless he asserted himself during the last battle and fully deserved his monetary reward.

After a brief meeting with Dawnbringer Tristan, Antoine handed over the bag of coin (624GP or equivalent)) and explained what it was for.  Antoine also made a point that Herman acted bravely during the skirmish with the necromancers and without his skills, the battle could have ended somewhat differently.  Bidding the Dawnbringer a good evening, Antoine made her way over to Horrace's store, having a small piece of business with the halfling.

Antoine smiled one of her infamous yet alluring smiles at the knowledgeable halfling as he greeted her.  "You must 'ave ze cleanest porch in ze whole land Master 'orrace - but likewise, it is a pleasure to converse wiz you.  In fact, I wondered if you might be able to 'elp me wiz somezing?"  Antoine gestured to the door of the halfling's shop to indicate that she wished to discuss something in private.

[Private to Dungeon Master: I see that the mini's are public threads, yet I am sure that it wont be just me who might end up having stuff they wish to keep private from the others for the moment.  Given my storyline I guess it is potentially possible, however unlikely, that Antoine could end up being infected with Lycanthropy!  If this does happen, it would be great to keep such things under wraps (i.e. private) whilst in-character, Antoine wrestled with the implications and OOC, there's no temptation of meta-gaming (not that this group suggests that they would).

Lastly, can you confirm that the hunt is 2 days from today (today being listed as "Day Four - 8th Day of the 3rd Ride, Kythorn 1373DR)" in the journal?

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
"I aim to please maddam."  The tip of Horrace's jaunty hat came barely to Antoine's waist but it did not stop the little Hin from bowing with a flourish and extending an arm  to hold open the door for Rosewood's most comely Guardian.  Once inside Horrace propped his broom against the wall, an act done quite frequently in light of the worn paint in that particular spot on the wall.  "And what is it I can do for you this evening?"

No problem about the temple scene, I prefer to move quickly through more mundane, less important tasks.  Good job.

The hunt will take place the evening of Kythorn 30.  I believe I mispoke/mistyped in Peter's thread.

There's an OOC post you should read regarding the privacy issue.

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
Antoine wasted no time getting down to business.  The night was fast drawing to a close and she had things to do before the hunt in two night's time.  With a polite, yet business-like tone, Antoine began to seek information from the resourceful halfling.

"'orace, as you know zere is a 'unt in two night's time and I 'ave been invited to participate as a guest of Rosewood town officials.  I 'ave accepted zis already, 'owever I 'ave since learned ze unusual nature of ze prey.  I wish to find out more about zem as knowing one's enemy will give you an advantage in battle.  Can you tell me where I might find zem as well as any ozer useful information you know about zem and the 'unt in general?"

Antoine made it clear to Horrace that she had a reasonably well-stocked belt pouch upon her person, by crossing her legs in her chair which deliberately caused a slight 'chinking' sound.  The sound was only faint but to one such as Horrace, it would resonate loudly through his ears.

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
"OohOoooh!"  Horrace squealed with delight, whether due to the crossing of Antoine's legs or the jingling money pouch was certainly debatable but either way his attention was now fully on the beautiful rogue.  "Well, well, invited on the hunt are you?  You'll most certainly be needing your weapons silvered.  I have several vials of an alchemical substance that temporarily turns your weapon silver for sale.  I've also quite the stock of silver tipped arrows as well, they haven't been selling quite as fast since Goldy started making them too.  Mine are better of course, imported all the way from Baldur's Gate... Ah yes, the hunt."  He said snapping himself out of a very long tangent.

"The lycans as most call them have roamed the countryside for far too long if you ask me.  Violent and primal when the moon is full.  No interest in trade at all.  Quite worthless and even harmful to otherwise realtively safe trade routes to the south.  The exact location of each hunt is a tightly held secret and if one were to dilvulge it they do so at their own risk, I for one wouldn't like to draw the ire of old Hawth over it..."  Horrace let his sentence fade off as his eyes drifted south from yours.

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
As Horrace's eyes drifted southwards, Antoine afforded herself a almost invisible smile as she wondered what thoughts currently occupied the halfling's mind.  It was most certainly not thoughts of the hunt and even coin might be taking a back seat at the moment!  Antoine brought Horrace's attention back to the here and now.

"I can appreciate ze secrecy around ze exact location of ze 'unt and I would not ask you to divulge such sensative information.  'owever, it's possible zat somewhere close-by the 'unt's location, zere might be some good foraging to be 'ad or some valuable 'erbs to be gazered which could be sold on to ze 'ighest bidder.  As I am no trader, I would need somebody who could sell zem on for me for a substantial cut, say 100%?  I would even be prepared to leave a deposit with such a trader so zat if I were to return empty-'anded, he would not be out of pocket.  It also goes wizout saying zat I would never give ze location of ze good-foraging area away to anyone, zat would not be good business sense..."

Antoine smiled a sweet smile as she spoke, assuming that the halfling had enough nous to understand exactly what she was asking of him and that he would of course be rewarded for any assistance.

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
"That most certainly is a most interesting business proposition.  in fact just yesterday I was thinking that I was beginning to run short of Belladona, with the hunt upcoming and all.  I would tell you the location of quite a large natural growing of it, but like you say, such information is too valuable to simply give away.  Even to one of the Guardians, and the most beautiful at that."  Horrace's eye's darn near glowed with the excitement of the deal.

A Sense Motive and Diplomacy roll please.

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
Antoine continued to smile her sweet smile and her eyes glinted at the thought of gaining the information she seeked.

"Ahh, of course, Belladonna!" she shrieked.  "Such a wonderful plant wiz many 'elpful uses.  Tell me Monsieur 'orrace, 'ow much of a deposit would be required for zis business transaction, bearing in mind zat I aim to reach zere tomorrow and if zat cannot be achieved on foot, I will also require loan of a 'orse."

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
Horrace chuckled immodestly "There are many who rely upon my word with their life.  If I am to promise them Belladonna I must be able to deliver it.  I will tell you where you might find it but one hundred gold down payment will be necessary should you not return with any and I would need to acquire it elsewhere.  It is not just anyone who is allowed to do business with me, I have certain standards you know.  Those that do must prove their worthiness..."  Horrace's eyes again drifted downward toward the bulging poouch of coin.

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
"One 'hundred gold coin eh?" Antoine's gaze turned to one more business looking.  "Why Monsieur 'orrace, you do realise zat by charging such a steep price for information, ze guardians of Rosewood, who will be 'ere for some time by ze way, will not be able to pass any 'business opportunities' your way for fear of being over-charged?  I am sure zat with a much more reasonable rate, we can conclude zis particular transaction and I can ensure ozer business comes your way first, along wiz per'aps first refusal on any unusual trinkets I might find eh?"

OOC I'll let you make any social interaction rolls on my behalf so I dont know (un)successful Antoine is :-)

Late Evening
Stormy

"Why madaam D'Marque, you must not have gotten around town very much since you arrived.  There is no one else.  I am the only merchant in town adn I set teh terms for business conducted here."  Though boastful it was not delivered as such, a mere statement of fact.  "I assure you that the Guardians will need my assistance from time to time.  I'd hate to sour that relationship over something such as this.  One hundred gold it will be if you wish to be an herbal supplier for me."  Horrace's thumbs were tucked into his pants pockets and he rocked slightly on the balls of his feet as he waited for your reply.

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
Antoine sighed quietly to herself but did not show her disappointment to the halfling.  "It seems zen I 'ave no choice Monsieur Horrace but to acquiesce to your demands."

Antoine pulled the required coin from her pouch and placed it on the table in front of the storekeep.

"Ok, I believe you now 'ave some information for me, yes?"

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
There is rumored to be a large natural crop of Belladona to the south, just east of the old quarry's bridge over the Titan River.  If you follow the east bank of the river here in town south you'll pass the confluences of three tributaries before coming to the bridge.  The bridge itself has been neglected for two and a half decades so I wouldn't trust it for a crossing.  Bring me back some Belladonna when you find it and we'll discuss a more formal business relationship."  Horrace eagerly accepted the coinage and weighed it expertly in his hand before smiling broadly.  "It's been a pleasure Madaam, gods speed your journey.

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within
Antoine listened intently to the halfling while he recited the directions to the site of the belladona.  Once Horrace had finished speaking, the young woman countered with some quick questions.

"Ok, you do not say 'ow far ze site is from town.  If it cannot be reached on foot wizin a 'alf-day, I shall need a mount as I mentioned earlier.  Second, as zis bridge you mention is not to be trusted, it seems I may need a good lengz of rope and assume you can 'elp wiz zis?  Lastly, can I assume zen zat nearby ze site of which you speak, I may encounter certain 'people'"?
