Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within 2
Antoine gulps at the air hungrily as she bursts through the river's surface.  Amidst the spluttering and coughing she spies the wolves way above her before they disappear.  Without further thought, the young woman clambers up onto the rocks and scrabbles to reach a patch of level ground where she lay on her back and breathed heavy.

As Antoine begain to regain her senses, memories of Canus' hut came flooding back to her.  She remembered the great wolf leap upon her and the smell of his stale breath encroaching into her nasal passages.  She swore she could still feel the saliva dripping down her cheek and subconsciously wiped her face.  It was then that she remembered the huge claws ripping through her flesh like a hot knife through butter.  Almost immediately, she checked herself over for physical damage and also, to see if any of her equipment was lying around anywhere.

I didnt know if a spot or search roll was appropriate for finding any of my stuff (coz I dont know where it is!)  My bonus for each skill is +8 anyway so I only made one roll - not that I was very lucky with the dice roller!

10:15, Today: Antoine D'Marque rolled 11 using 1d20+8. Spot/Search.

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within 2
Antoine's body was wracked with pain that was only intensified by the bone-chilling water of the river.  Much of her body including her neck and back that she could not see was covered with cuts and bruises, some from Canus and others from her violent tumble through the rocky waters.  No bones appeared to be broken however and for that she was lucky.  Much of her equipment was missing and after a quick examination of what was remaining she conncluded it had been washed downriver rather than looted from her.  She still retained her weapons an several of the potions she had accumulated but her quiver was empty of arrows and most of her miscellaneous equipment was gone.  It would be dark soon and Antoine was in no condition to be alone in the dangerous wilderness.

Please check your character sheet for your equipment changes and your new HPs.  You have no recollection of events between Canus' attack and the last post.  By spotting the bridge you know where you are but you have no idea when you are other than the fact it is getting dark fast.

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within 2
Antoine flinched and gave soft cries as she checked herself for cuts, bruises and broken bones.  It seemed as though she had been beaten and then tossed into the river and Antoine was thankful that things could have been much worse.  Setting about collecting her possessions, Antoine looked through her equipment to find her potions of healing she purchased from the temple but alas, they seemed to have been washed away.

Gathering herself together, she looked around her and noticed it was soon going to be dark.  Her tent and spare clothes had also succumbed to the river wild and stuck in wet clothing with no shelter, she would catch her death out in the wilderness.  Taking the decision to make it back to town, she set off upriver towards Rosewood.

With her injuries still fresh, the journey back to Rosewood was a struggle.  Her pack lay awkardly and painfully on her shoulders and she was forced to stop often to readjust the straps into a less painful position.  At this rate, she would not reach Rosewood until the dead of night.  Grimacing, she pushed through the pain and continued to move on.

As she walked, she chided herself for being so foolish.  [What did you think you were going to achieve Antoine?  Did you really believe you could help the werewolves?  What made you think they wanted your help anyway?  You should have listened to Herman.  He was rash you thought, foolish you thought, but he was right wasn't he!?  Another wrack of pain shot through her body and grabbed her focus.  Adjusting her backpack for the umpteenth time, Antoine continued the long walk back to town.

Clear and cool with a light breeze

As Antoine struggled to put one foot in front of another to make it back to Rosewood she can't shake the feeling that she was being watched.  And followed.  The sun had disappeared beneath the trees and the darkening of the sky had reached a snail's pace.  Helping to keep the sky in twilight was the bright full moon overhead.

Suddenly the forest around Antoine exploded with activity.  Gutteral shouts of orcs filled the air as they charged from hiding, hungry for the flesh of a human and spurred on by her helpless state.  Three orcs charged from either side of her their dull weapons more likely to rip than cut through flesh flashing the image of the moon above.  One of their bloodthirsty shouts was cut short as a dark form lept from the forest shadows attaching itself to the orc's neck and bearing it the ground with a sickening cruch of windpipe and bone.

Please roll initiative.  If you beat Init 5 go ahead and post your round 1 actions.

Re: Antoine D'Marque - Secrets Within 2
Only after the first hundred yards or so, Antoine knew it was going to be a long, hard journey back to town.  Her progress given her current physical state would mean she would make it back to town more like the early hours of the morning rather than sometime after midnight.

To take her mind off the difficult journey, her thoughts turned to the encounter with Dirk and ultimately Canus.  The pack leader was very insistant that they enjoyed the hunt to claim additional females to bear pack young.  Surely if he had raped Antoine in order to mate with her, Canus would not have subsequently thrown her into the river?  To do so would have damaged any potential childbirth.  Antoine thought that this was not really what happened to her; what was more likely is that Canus deliberately infected her with lycanthropy and after letting her go, knew that she would come crawling back to the pack.  Then, he would have his way - another female with which to bear his young and strengthen his presence in the area.

Antoine did not have time to consider the possibility of her being a werewolf, the orcish shouts in the dark saw to that.  Before she had the chance to react, out the corner of her eye, Antoine caught sight of a shape lunging at one of the orcs from out of the shadows.  The gurgle of orc death throws mixed oddly with the sound of the rogue drawing her short sword from it's scabbard.  Shaking off the pain and discomfort she was feeling, Antoine took a neat side-step and then plunged her weapon deep into an orc-shaped form in the darkness.

21:10, Today: Antoine D'Marque rolled 17 using 1d20+6. Initiative.
21:10, Today: Antoine D'Marque rolled 19 using 1d20+4. Attack.
21:10, Today: Antoine D'Marque rolled 5 using 1d6+1. Damage.

Descending to Dark
Kythorn 30, 1373DR - Night of the Hunt
Evening
Clear and cool with a light breeze

Antoine had never been accused of being slow to act and despite being charged by a handful of orcs it was she who drew first blood.  The orc had been impaled upon her sword but still had enough breath left to swing with its own weapon.  Its axe sliced across her skin but no blood flowed from the wound and when she glanced down she saw her body covered with course grey fur sprouting in clumps from her skin.

The other orcs fell upon her hacking with axes, stabbing with swords, and bludgeoning with clubs but few seemed able to harm her and those that did left only flesh wounds.  The dark form flashed across the periphery of her vision and another of the orcs disappeared.  The smell of blood in the air nearly overcame her.  Two by two she and the dark form quickly dispatched the orcs until they lay twisted upon each other on the ground.

When her foes had all fallen Antoine's hand reached up to feel her face.  Razor-sharp claws poked her fur covered cheeks by accident and scraped against the fangs protruding from her mouth.  Shocked at what she now knows to be true she spins around searching for the dark form that came to her aid.  She found herself instinctively sniffing the air rather than listening for sounds as she looked and when her nose finally smelled him her eyes settled on a black wolf sitting on its haunches next to a tree several feet away.  Depthless black intelligent eyes looked back at you.

I think you pretty much follow what happened up to this point but if not here's a quick summary.  Please ask if something doesn't make sense.

Sometime after you blacked out in Canus' lair you were afflicted with Lycanthropy.  A day later you awoke after being tossed into a river battered and bruised.  What exactly happened between Canus' lair and the river will likely never be known.  Trying to return to Rosewood you were set upon by orcs.  Your lycanthropy manifested itself but this time you became aware of your condition though you failed to exert control over it.  You are currently in hybrid form and it is the night of the hunt.

PLEASE read and re-read the SRD's entry for lycanthropy.  They are very complicated rules with some actions having long term ramifications in the form of increased saving throw DCs.  Your current Control Shape Save is Willpower DC16.  I've never DMed a lycan before so it's all new to me too.  If you have ANY questions we can discuss them in your Character Discussion Private Thread.

Wow, this will definitely be interesting!

Re: Descending to Dark
And so Antoine came to realise the hand that fate dealt her that day....

A thousand questions burned through her mind as she sat on her haunches back legs and eyed the other wolf suspiciously.  She wanted to speak but became suddenly aware of her seriously altered facial features, complete with long snout and rough tongue which she immediately put to use by running it along the length of her razor sharp teeth.

She looked down at her body to see the full extent of the transformation.  Her fur was a deep brown, the colour matching her human head of hair.  Her tail, which was a concept too strange to come to terms with right now, was long and quite bushy.  She then saw the length of the deadly claws where her fingernails should be and realised that was what Canus had used on her.  It was at this time that she suddenly realised although it was almost midnight, she could see herself and the surrounding area as though it were noon.  A strange sensation to deal with but her keen sense of smell picked up the strong scent of the other lycan once more and she returned her gaze to him.  She opened her mouth to speak and although she understood the words to be common, what she heard was a series of short yelps and howls.

"So, which one are you?  Let me see...you aren't large enough for Canus and so I assume you are Dirk?  Am I right?

Ok ok, a little poetic licence here!  I mentioned in my PM that I dont know if WW can speak but I guess they can communicate with each other in any form.  I just HAD to post IC!!!  Feel free to let me know if I've gone too far though!!!

Re: Descending to Dark
"Yes, I am Dirk, and you now know the curse that has been set upon you."  Dirk's wolven jowls were pulled back to reveal his large canines in a warning against attacking him.  He lifted himself onto his four legs and began to circle you slowly and menacingly.  "Do you smell it?  It is all that saved you from Canus, he has no taste for the magic.  Return to Rosewood and live amongst them, you will find them insufferably weak and soft as I did.  When you are ready return to your pack and claim your place there will be many waiting."  Before Antione could respond Dirk flicked his tail and sprinted away into the forest.

Re: Descending to Dark
Antoine didn't have a chance to respond to Dirk as he quickly fled away.  She remained sat there for a few moments though to think things through logically.

[Dirk says this is a curse but I am not so sure of that.  He is obviously a fool who would roll over at Canus' command.  I shall not be Canus' 'bitch' and he has little wisdom if he thinks otherwise.  He may think I will crawl back to him but I will not.  This "curse" as Dirk calls it will come in useful methinks...]

Antoines' thoughts were interrupted by a small itch on her side and without thinking, she lifted up her right hind leg to scratch it with her paw.  [Ha!  I have paws!] she said to herself.

Revelling in her new found freedom, Antoine lept away with an awesome turn of speed from where she previously sat.  Her newly acquired night vision allowing her to see perfectly, she bounded through the trees like a young pup frolocking in the wild.  After a little while doing this, she came to a small clearing in the trees and looked up to witness the full moon glaring down at her.  Instinctively, she let out a loud howl, praising the lunar power and announcing her arrival - her rebirth!

Suddenly, her senses came back to her.  The hunt was supposed to be last night, or was it tonight?  Antoine couldn't be sure and therefore she couldn't take chances in her weakened state.  Sniffing the ground, she followed the trail of her recently laid scent back to where she left her equipment and became acutely aware that she lacked hands to pick it up!  She had no idea how to go about returning to her natural form but decided to try anyway.  Concentrating on what she looks like as a human, Antoine focussed on that form and for a second, she thought she had it.  However the strain proved too much for her and so she resigned herself to resting and retrying in the morning.

For now, Antoine scouted around the area and found a small ditch under some bushes.  Using her mouth, she dragged her equipment down into the ditch and lay down under cover for the night.

Obviously we haven't done any game mechanics yet and so I've used a WIS check (including my +2 WIS for being a lycan) but not included any skill points into the new skill "Control Shape" (which I will when we sort things out).  I quite like the idea of her spending her first night in wolf form anyway!

08:53, Today: Secret Roll: Antoine D'Marque rolled 13 using 1d20+3. Control shape: Wolf -> Human.
