Meta-game & Rules Discussion
Folks, I want you to vote on a house rule similar to one used muriwo's game.

You each get one Life. This will be used up to negate a blow that would have killed you. You don't get an option when to use it.

For especially lucky or heroic acts you may get awarded a Life.

What do you think?? Yes or No?

Is this some kind of hero point? I say yes!

Re: Meta-game

It is a WHRP rule.  When you have received a blow that would have killed you, you have to come up with a 'GOOD' excuse not to have died, based on the situation, your characters type, and your skill at prose!

Often you still receive a nasty wound or other disadvantage, but are not dead.  If you think you can take on a dragon with 1 fatr point, you are wrong!

Re: Meta-game
I don't personally like this, especially if they can be regained with heroic acts. Heroic acts should be based on roleplay (my character, for example, isn't the heroic type...) not on potential Life/Fate/Hero point gain.
Besides, Dragon Warriors is all about "Life and Death are only a dice roll away".

Re: Meta-game
True, but I don't wan't to have to fudge any rolls and the adventure is a challenging one. So for this game it is "Life and Death are only two dice rolls away" :)

I take your point about heroic actions though. For now let's just see how you all get on with one life...

Will be keeping track of your XP in a private line on the Party Roster thread.

And I will also keep track of the group's treasure in this thread too. I am assuming Soleajk keeps the stuff for now.

Re: Meta-game
I'm actually against fudged rolls for the same reason. ;)
The only time I fudge rolls is when I'm DMing a solo player campaign. After all, if the one player has their character die there isn't much else to be done.

Re: Meta-game
I am for the 'life' rule but I think it should be pretty damn hard to get another one if you ever use up the first one.

I am against fudged rolls in tabletop games because you can have a lot in one session even if your character dies along the way.

I am for them in PBPs because you spend so long in real time, actually getting to know your character.  Then the game has a good chance of dying... Effectively a TPK.   So on the few occasions I do actually develop a char to any degree, I would be miffed if he snuffs it just because of a crappy roll.  I do agree with GM that one shouldn't abuse this though.  If you take on a dragon bare-handed or jump off a massive cliff...

Re: Meta-game
I am usually also against working around the rules, but Owyn has a good point: it usually takes some time to have a character going in a PbP game, so see him die because of a bad roll is more than frustrating...

That said, it should be kept minimal, and the conditions of use must be clearly stated beforehand.

Re: Meta-game
'Heroic' actions can be defined as performing an act that progresses the story.  this may be in agreement or against the characters personal dogma, at the descetion of the GM.

Metric or Imperial?

I realise I have been posting distances in imperial, is everyone OK with this or shall I switch to metric? BTW. the bridge is 40ft (12m long), and the missing gap 13ft.

Sorry for my mistake about the gap distance. Either system is fine really. It's a simple matter to Google the equivalent in the other...

Re: Meta-game
What I normally do is talk in yards, since they are close enough to metres to be treated equally.  But they sound more old school (1 yard = 91.44 cm)
