Owyn, having [ROBERT E HOWARD] pondered mightily with brooding brow [/ROBERT E HOWARD] speaks out gruffly with an edge of command to his voice.

"Fellows let us cease our faffing and proceed thusly - at night we will sneak back to the outskirts and then come in together with a howling and hullabaloo.   You will bind my hands and claim that I was the last of a band of soldiers who attacked the watchhouse at the pass.   You others arrived at the pass too late to help the prophet's guards, but slew my companions and took me prisoner.

We have all taken enough scratches already that they will surely believe us.   Then he will trust you...."

Re: Haligdae 24th Waed-monath
Luckily the warmer air in the hidden valley means you can make do without a fire and you make your cheerless camp inside the remains of the villa's central courtyard. The night seems unnaturally quiet, with few animal sounds, but sometimes you hear something bigger moving stealthily through the darkness...

Your luck holds almost till morning, but on Finan's watch the camp is assaulted by a pack of ghouls, which manage to sneak up unnoticed in the early morning mist.

Combat map to follow.

Re: Haligdae 24th Waed-monath
The ghouls pour into he courtyard as you struggle to awaken. Luckily the moon is bright enough to see, even in the mist, which glows with an eerie light. These ghouls are in a sorry state, stick thin, in tattered clothing and covered in old wounds and weeping sores. All of them carry crude clubs or bone daggers.

Sor you have you full completment of Magic Points (4).

Round 1. Everyone can act before the ghouls, but only Finan is standing. If you can roll equal to or under your Reflex score you can jump to your feet and attack too, otherwise you can only stand. Combat map below.

Important: actions are resolved in Reflex order, but no need to post in Reflex order.

Einar, the hardened warrior is awake and on his feet in a single action - Longaxe in hand.
00:27, Today: Einar Tamberskelf rolled 12 using 1d20.  v REF 12.

Moving alongside Owyn, Einar scythes down at another ghoul.  He brings the Longaxe down, striking the ghoul in the left shoulder, driving the blade through to its right hip in a diagonal stroke!

Re: Haligdae 24th Waed-monath
Einar, Owyn and Sor jump to their feet and engage the ghouls, forming a wedge with Owyn at the point.

Einar and Owyn both wound their ghouls, and Finan's javelin brings Einar's opponent close to death.

Lekbitr joins his master and attacks a ghoul, but its jaws miss by an inch. Sor's clumsy stab misses, as does the ghostly warrior summoned by Jon.

Four ghouls close and attack, but despite their frenzied assault no-one is wounded.

Round 2-4. Please post for 3 rounds. Post in any order, resolved in Reflex order.

Re: Haligdae 24th Waed-monath
The battle starts well for the party. Two ghouls are dispatched and one is almost finished, with Einar and his dog particularly effective. Owyn and Einar are both hit, but their armour withstands the blow. Sor, who wears no armour, is stabbed painfully in the thigh. Then another ghoul, obviously attracted by the noise of combat, rushes into the courtyard from the south behind your front line and angles towards Finan...

OK, since the situation has changed for Finan, I will give him the opportunity to change his round 4 action before the ghoul gets to attack. Finan, bear in mind you will be on 0HP if the ghoul his you! I must say I have rarely seen someone roll so consistently high on the d20 before. You should be playing D&D ;)

He'll throw again as soon as the stupid dead thing stops chasing him.

Finan jumps through the rubble-choked doorway in front of him and circles round the ruined interior of the villa, pursued by the ghoul.

BTW Finan I was assuming you weren't trying to lead to ghoul to attack another PC!

Re: Haligdae 24th Waed-monath
Lekbitr dispatches one ghoul and Sor another. Einar joins Owyn in attacking the last ghoul left in the courtyard, and deals it a bloody wound with his longaxe. However Owyn takes a stab in the shoulder from the ghoul.

2HP Damage Owyn.

Meanwhile the gods are not with Finan once again. His cast is wide, and the starving ghouls jumps past his defences and bites at his neck, sending the hunter falling to the stone floor in a spray of blood.

Finan, is on 0HP and still alive at the moment. However, next round the ghoul will start to feed and that will be that. Luckily Jon saw what happened...

Next round folks, apols again for the delay.
