Taking Over a Dead Game

Does anyone know how to take over a dead game to bring it back to life when the GM is no longer active?

In this instance, I'm in a game that had been run by StarMaster, who died a few months ago.  There were no Co-GMs and those of us still around, were hoping to keep it going as we were enjoying the game.  We know it would be different without our beloved GM, StarMaster, but kind of also in homage to him.

Any help appreciated.
The game is Iron Fist.

This is  a good question for the Admins?  You have to check the   heading where it says   if he  Starmaster  was the   sole owner, and that no one else  could take it over.

I am uncertain how posting  new threads  , maps  ect ect would go with out you being  designated  GM.

We only transfer ownership of a game to a previously existing co-GM, after the original owner has been absent for at least three months.  We never promote a player to GM status, even if the "sole ownership" tag is off.

In this case, there is no co-GM in the game, so ownership can not be transferred.

Just a suggestion: have you tried to rmail the former GM to logg in just a momento to promote someone to co-GM, or even to talk the admins for this?

If he just left teh game, he could agreee. If something has happened to him (god forbid) or does not answer, then I'm afraid what bigbadron has said would stand...

Well, I've been in several games that have died (sometimes with the GM simple stopping answereing, with no explanation) while their GMs keep acting on the board...

In other cases, they may have left the board but be alive, and maybe willing to cede the game to another.

And, in any case, I guess nothing would be lost in trying...

(and BTW, I'm Lluis, not Luis ;))

What we have done before, in a similar case where a GM passed away, was make a new game that was a continuation/sequel of the previous game.

It wasn't the /same/ game, but it carried on as an homage to the game that we all loved and the GM that had done such a good job of running it. If the players are still active, it shouldn't be difficult to discuss this with them and get everyone who's interested to RTJ to a "sequel" game.

Lluis, while I understand the point you're trying to make, I believe you've misinterpreted an important detail. Starmaster isn't inactive, he died. As in, is no longer among the living. This has been confirmed by people close to him in real-life. So emailing him isn't going to do anything at all.

Thank you all for your assistance and advice.  I was going to take over.  Not sure how to put files over.  I'll check with the rest of the players and see if anyone has done that before, when I asked about carrying on, they were ok with it.

Note, however, that old games can eventually be flagged as inactive, and removed from the site completely.  At which point links to them will no longer point to anything.

If you need to guarantee that you can keep accessing information from an old game, you need to copy as much of that information as you can to the new one, where you will have access for as long as the game is running.

I'll keep posting in the old game until I have transferred everything over.

Thank you for your advice.

i was  in a game once, that died, I don't even think the  GM is on the site  anymore.. the game  is still up, I go there sometimes  to roll dice  off my  boards  so players  can't see the rolls without using private  roll...another  Game i am in, a Player  took over    and  Just posts  as the GM. but  must have some   GM  status  since they can make   new threads.

Yes, if he can start new threads, then the original GM must have given him GM status.  It's the only way he could do that.
