Hello everyone, I'm glad to have found this forum.  A quick bit about me.  I played a pen and paper RPG once for about a year, it was roughly 16 or 17 years ago.  I remember enjoying it, but life has a way of happening and people grew up and moved on.  Anyway, I've had the itch to play again all these years later but I don't have a group of friends, the time, the knowledge, or location to try an play again.  Which is why I'm glad to be here.  I'm hopeful that I will be able to find some games welcoming an old man newbie.  I'm looking forward to reading through a few games as well to get an understanding of the play-by-post method.  Thank you.

Welcome. BrickWall!

We've chewed some of the same ground, you and I.  I started here at RPoL because I couldn't get my regular Jones for RPG play satisfied across a table any more because of my wacky work schedule.  You've definitely come to the right place.

What is it you want to play?  There's a very strong presence for the more "popular" stuff, but there are also those adventurous souls who play games I've never heard of.

I bet you want to know how to get started.  Well, the first thing I'd do is the required reading - you know, the dry stuff in the Help and FAQs.  Find these at the top right of any RPoL page, and dig in.  There's a definite culture and etiquette here, so learning about those things right away will be of real use to you.

Hang out for a while in Community Chat, get to know some folks, and talk about what interests you.

When you're ready for a game, check out Wanted - Players.  This is where GMs who have games running that need players advertise.  Replying to an ad with a request to join (RTJ) should get your foot in the door, so to speak.

Game Proposals, Input, and Advice is another place to find games, but games that are just starting up.  GMs come here to make proposals for a game concept they want to run as a way to gauge interest.  Expressing interest is a great way to get in on the ground floor of a new game.

There are lots of other forums here, not to mention the games - if you can't find something, jot back and somebody will point you in the right direction.

Go on.  Get out there and get you some!  I'll see ya downrange.

Hi Horus,

Thank you for the welcome and information.  As for what I'd like to play, I think I'm open to quite a few options.  I'm not really sure what's out there these days.  I saw a game called Symbaroum that had some really great artwork in the book that got me intrigued.  However, it seems pretty obscure as I tried to look into it more.

That being said I'll read what you suggested and get into the forums.  I'm eager to try and play a game again.  Thanks again.
