Long time player but new to GMing a game on RPOL

Hello there.

I've set up my game, the intro, a few maps and I even have a few players/friends lined up to play. I even created an Obsidian Portal page for my game world.

The thing is, I have never GMed a PbP game before. 8 years ago or so I did play in a game on this site, but that was a while ago and only as a player. I do remember that it was relatively easy.

My question is; Once we're all ready to start, how do I go about it?
Of is there a forum post/FAQ post somewhere that I can read (I haven't found any details on this so far).

Thanks.

In reply to Dragonspawn (msg # 1):

Basically, you start an In Character thread and make your introductory game post, establishing the starting situation (Caravan, tavern, offices of a Patron, whatever). Then let the players react.

when you are ready to start..you need  an OOC  thread( for folks to talk out of character)

then  have a  rules thread you can add to or edit

then your 'beginning  thread', where the charcters  start from...

post ads for you game in the 'Players wanted"..you can bump it every  7 days ...there's a count  down clock when you check your ad)

after that, you set up threads  as needed.. equiptment, history  ect ect...each DM/GM has thier own ways of handling it, once the flow begins.,

In reply to donsr (msg # 3): Thank you as well.

The idea of an OOC and a Rules thread is great.

yep yep...i hate when i'm in games   and there  is OOC talke in the IC thread?..it take the flovor  away..

in OOC  players can ask questions..talk about...anything?...new players  can get introduced  and welcomed..its a very valuable tool.

Very first, once you have the game set up, you need to add players. In the GM menu edit game details to turn on "recruiting new players". This activates the RTJ/request to join. When your friends have created their accounts, provide them the game link.

When they respond to the RTJ in the game, it's simple to add them as players and set up their characters. You'll probably want a character sheet in the "Character Details" tab.

Then it's time to open the various game threads for their posts.
