Of course you can, it's separate skills. Yes, that would handily beat the DC and you avoid taking damage.

Re: Elias vs Adamar in Close Quarters

Adamar had witnessed the cloud of coins do it's work many times and did not want to be taken out by it so easily. The elf channeled a portion of his magical energy into his gloves and fired off two magical bolts of energy into the celestial bison. Before the bolts hit the elf leapt off backwards from the pillar and landed on the ground next to the pillar easily.

Edited Round 2:
[Standard] Activate Gloves of the Starry Sky: Cast Magic Missile: 2 missiles damage: 7
[Move] Jump from pillar, Tumble Check: 30, Jump Check: 23, No falling damage

Status:
  Initiative: 11
  AC (Touch AC): 18(14)

  Damage Taken: 6
  Damage Dealt: 7Bison

Effects:

*Expeditious Retreat: +30' to movement, Duration: 4 minutes

*Mirror Image: 3 extra images, Duration: 4 minutes

Final Position: I08

Adamar Venali:
Oh yeah, what is that roll again?

Caster level check. Essentially an attack roll.

D20+ your caster level. Must hit or beat the SR value (10).

Unless you have practiced spellcaster (beguiler) or the glove uses a caster level of its own, your caster level is 4. So d20+4.

Re: Elias vs Adamar in Close Quarters

Once Adamar left the pillar, the Bison chased after him, having readied itself for just that occasion. The Bison moved around the north (H/I-6/7) after Adamar landed on the ground.

Eli moved south, straining to get into position to see Adamar. Once he had the beguiler in his sights, he directed the cloud of coins to attack the elf again, hitting his image with great success.

The Bison grunted and gored Adamar with its mighty horns, dealing a significant blow of damage... to an image!

Eli laughed in mild frustration, "I almost believed I had you with that last attack!"

Re: Elias vs Adamar in Close Quarters

Adamar tried to tumble away from the bison but failed opening himself up for an attack, thankfully his images reshuffled so there was a chance to escape once again unscathed. Once away from the bison Adamar ran to the edge of the arena and fired a blast of color at Elias and disappeared while doing so.

Re: Elias vs Adamar in Close Quarters

The Bison gored Adamar as he fled and then chased after the beguiler, stabbing into the space he disappeared from, possibly with great success.

Eli followed the Bison, shrugging off Adamar's spell easily. Eli swiped into the empty seeming space but he failed to strike anything.

OOC: I just realized you moved right up next to Adamar last round. Now, wouldn't that have caused an AoO??

Re: Elias vs Adamar in Close Quarters

There's only an AOO where you move through a square that is threatened. So, if I moved around Adamar in a circle or something like that, I would provoke... But there is no AoO for moving INTO a threatened square.

I believe both the Bison and Elias only moved into threatened squares, but not through, unless you have 10ft reach.

You don't provoke any AOO's from your movement as you are invisible.

Re: Elias vs Adamar in Close Quarters

Bison lasts one more round. I'm only level 6 and I can't extend a full round action spell :(

Still, if you didn't show up soon I was going to just create a few more spiritual weapons and amass a beatdown crew while I waited.

Still fairly certain I'm going to win.

Re: Elias vs Adamar in Close Quarters

Personally I hate, no DETEST fighting someone who summons a creatue. It's like going to fight someone and they invited their buddy to come kick your ass too. In my opinion, if you are fighting someone who is of your level you should not be able to use a summoned creature. It becomes too much. That said, I don't fault someone for using all in their power to win the fight as long as it's in the rules to do so, and until someone makes a rule that if you are fighting someone your level or lower there is a ban on summoned creature then by all means keep bringing in those little balance tippers :)

Just my 2 copper.

Re: Elias vs Adamar in Close Quarters

Next level Eli will become a Malconvoker. So. Summoning is what he does. I have all of three level three spells, the only offensive one being summon monster.

Power Word: Pain would have been tough, but with fast healing and temp Hp I should have been fine.

Spiritual Weapon is like its own summoned thing. Self sustaining attack monkey until a target dies or vanishes. You just need to maintain line of sight with the weapon itself, not necessarily the target. No limit on how many you can have. Still requires a standard action to cast and a move action to redirect it.

Eli is a favored soul so he's pretty gimped. Eli only has good charisma and an okay strength, con, and int. So I can't really use any spells with DC's because those are based off of wisdom while casting is based off of Charisma. FS get very little love from the books. So glad for the Deity's Favor alternate class feature :)

But I love this guy :)

Good match. Even though I'm specifically built as a summoner, we could do a no-summons match... Mirror image is a headache but I'll manage (close your eyes or have blindsight and the images are useless!)

Nah, I'm in two other matches right now and I think I'm going to give Adamar a rest. Well done though. And don't take my rant personally, I just seem to get my butt handed to me by people's "pets" in matches and it just grates on me.

Re: Elias vs Adamar in Close Quarters

Good game, both of you! Summoners are a pain to fight, I totally agree (like monstrous scorpions...). Unfortunately the arenas we have right now don't suit skillfull characters like Adamar very well, and those classes have a harder time anyway surviving arena matches. Still, these fights do serve a purpose in training for the "real deal" in the campaigns.

I get it, my rant sounds a bit silly because I used the scorpion in my Kail/Ossian match but I stand by what I say, and Kail will not be using the scorpion unless he fights someone of a higher level.
