I was wondering, where could someone find a great source to draw material for a Sons of Ether mage?

There is Steampunk, H.G. Wells, and Nikola Tesla.

Hmm, Sherlock Holmes and Space 1889?  Very Victorian and Steampunkish influences in both, though the steampunk is more in Space 1889 than Sherlock Holmes.

EDIT: There are also H. G. Wells' contemporaries, all three of whom are called Fathers of Science Fiction: Jules Verne and Hugo Gernsback.
