Rules

Intro to Rules:
Just a note, but the order the rules are in do not, in any way, tell you the importance of the rule. These rules are also not here to give you a hard time, but rather to understand both the theme of this place and the way to play on it. Every game has rules and if you cheat, it's no longer fun. Cheaters are losers since they will never know if their real abilities are any good. But enough with the lechture. Enjoy!

Rule 01: Power Level One Hundred THOUSAND?! That's Impossible!
This place is not for the Gokus or Vegetas of the internet. If you want to be a powerful goodguy like Sonic, this isn't the place for you. Thanks to the way people treat Sonic like Dragonball Z, and my experience on Sonic RP places, I do not allow super powered goodguys. If you don't mind playing someone as powerful as Sally, Rotor, Antoine and people like that, that is doable. Not deterred? Then keep reading. :)

Rule 02: No Second Robotniks
I understand SEGA wanted to pass Tails off as a genius who would rival even Robotnik. Well I'm here to tell you now: That will not happen for anyone besides Tails. Geniuses are allowed, but with serious moderation. You will not be given a character who can do more than rewire Robotnik's equipment or invent nifty doodads now and again. Basically, if you know who Rotor is, he is a good example.

Rule 03: Featured Characters
There are no featured characters (Like Sonic or Tails) allowed. However, since I am not using certain aspects of Archie, there are a few exceptions to this rule. Like if you want Geoffery St John, Amy or even Knuckles since none of them ever actually showed up in SatAM.

Rule 04: Races
( For a list of races, go here: link to a message in "A Struggle for Hope" )
A. Common Races: You can have any of these races by default and I won't argue with ya about having that race.

Please use common sense about the advantages and disadvantages for various subraces. For example: A Dog would be listed under the common races, but you might want a doberman specifically. This would make you stronger than, say, a french poodle. :p As always, if you need help, contact me.

Lastly, if there is a race that you do not see in any of the race listings, feel free to ask about it.

B. Uncommon Races: These are races I decided had too many advantages to be common or are just plain naturally too rare to be common. Some of these races are just as common in-world as the common races, but that is irrelivant.

To have an uncommon race, you will need to have a very convincing application.

You can not have two uncommons in a row. If you have an uncommon, you must apply for a common before considering another uncommon.

C. Rare Races: To have a rare race, you must have 2 other active non-rare race characters. Please keep in mind that by "active", I mean you actually play the characters more than once every 2 weeks. Also, be aware that there is a limit to the number of any given "rare" race (good or evil) on the forum. This means there will never be more than 4 dragon characters (Including Ra. Yes he counts, even though he's a bot).

D. Winged Mobian: A winged mobian is pretty much any of the Common (And in some cases, Uncommon) races, but with wings and the "rare" status. You may choose any common race to give wings to. In the case of Uncommons, you'll just have to note me and ask. Obviously, creatures that already HAVE wings (Such as bats, Flickies or birds) don't need them and thus can not fall in this category. Yes... in this way, pigs CAN fly. :p

E. Villains: You can apply for Rare and Uncommon races without the conditions attatched if the character is a villain. For example, you could apply for a Dragon Villain without even having other alts. However, as soon as the character "switches sides", the requirements apply again. This means you MUST have 2 other active non-rare characters in order to be allowed to make a Dragon turn from bad to good.

Rule 05: Robians, Robots, and more!

It is well known that in Sonic themed worlds, Robotnik *roboticizes* people. You can apply for either a roboticized person or a robot that was never a person to begin with. There are some rules involving this.

A. If you have a laser gun or something better, you HAVE to be on Robotnik's side. Period. No turncoats. There is a MINOR exception to this rule: See rule 05-B.

B. You may have an android that is not a badguy, but this will not only be treated as a rare race, you will also be required to have *no* guns like a normal bot would have otherwise had.

C. Cyborgs are allowed as good or bad guys. But just like anyone, no guns if you want a goodguy.

There are perks to being a badguy. For starters, you are on the winning team. The goodguys are mostly in hiding and occasionally try hit and run tactics. Badguys can have all kinds of resources and can have weapons up the wazoo. The only downside is: You're evil. You are only allowed to be good if it is in your programming to decieve someone that way.

Other than that, if you have questions, please contact me (Timothius).

Rule 06: Seniority
As the game progresses and players play in more scenerios, I will be awarding players with "Seniority" status. This will be based on both how long you have been with us as well as how maturely you handle yourself in RP. Since the focus of RP is to have fun, then I will simply encourage you to simply make sure things are more fun thanks to you.

Those who are awarded Seniority status will be put on the "Seniors" Thread. Seniors are allotted more privilages, such as apping for any race they wish regardless of rarity. You will see notations throughout the rules that indicate such things.

As GM, of course, I (Timothius) reserve the right to automatically have Senior status. But duh... I've been here since the beginning anyway. >.> I have set this up because as people prove they are more fun for things in general, they prove that even if they ask for extra powers and such, they only do so because it would be more fun.

The seniority rewards are pretty nice, but in the end, it's all about fun.

Rule 07: Good, Neutral and Evil
Having a goodguy has it's advantages and disadvantages, but the closer to evil you get, the more advantages you get (in power) and the less disadvantages you get (again, in power). Here are the rules for the three factions:

1) GOOD - To define a good aligned person, this is someone who is not only against Robotnik, but FOR the Freedom Fighters. These people believe in helping each other out. They believe everyone who isn't against the Freedom Fighters is worth their time not only helping, but even risking their lives for.

    A) Good people may not have guns. Only one exception: Limited ammo. This means
the kind of gun that fires bullets or whatever. It also means you only have
six bullets at the most. You can not replace them except through finding
them if the game master (me) makes them available such as laying around in
       an abandoned shop.

    B) You may not have any special "Power" such as Sonic's speed or Bunnie's super
strength. People like Sally are great examples of the kind of characters we
are looking for. Bear in mind, however, you can get super strength from
being a big hulking mass of muscle, so Gorillas and such are fine to have. I
just don't want little rabbits running around with Gorilla level strength.

    C) Even Sonic was only good at one thing. But I realise diversity is important
for survival. So you may have two skills you are really good at. You can make
one of those two better than or equal to the other. If you forsake having a
second skill to be real good at, you may be even better at your one skill.
Don't be afraid to ask what is fine as far as that's concerned.

    D) "Seniors" may have a minor super power and still be good. But this power must
be something passive, not aggressive. Example: Goodguys can not shoot fire
from their mouths. A goodguy can not magically heal someone. However, a
goodguy can have an unexplainable improvement to their physical abilities or
disease follows the goodguy or it rains more often around the character. If
you choose to make such a power, there is a strong chance your character may
explain it away with coincidence, good genes or other excuses. But you can
know it to be a power if you give a good reason why your character knows.

2) NEUTRAL - To define a neutral aligned person, this is someone who is only for their own cause. They could be against Robotnik, or they could just be in it for the money (Robotnik could pay this person to do a task such as scout out an unpopulated area that is good for mining resources). This person might even care about other people to a degree, but they do NOT ally themseleves entirely with anyone. These people are fence sitters or people who consider the whole world their enemy. But what seperates these from the evil ones is that these people are not ANTI Freedom Fighter. These people are not even anti-people. At least to the extent that they are not out to hunt people down. One last thing, I should warn that Neutrals are hard to survive with since you could easily wind up with both Good and Evil after your head.

    A) A neutral may choose a super power. Only one. I'll let you know if it is a
power I won't allow. It can even have magic involved both in it's origin
and it's properties. This can include things like cybernetic implants that
help you be a living wireless connection or you could shoot lightning bolts
from your fingertips. Let your imagination fly and I will chat with you
       about it.

    B) Neutral can be multi-talented. The more talent, the lesser your "special
power". If you forgo your power, you can be a master at many martial arts.
Or a master of one, but also a master craftsman. Or whatever. You may also
decide to be really good (but not a master) at three abilities.

    C) Neutral may have guns, but their guns will also be limited depending on
what was picked for their "power" or talents. Example: Samuel has guns, but
usually keeps them locked up. Or there's Angel, who has guns with her all
the time, but she doesn't have a super power.

    D) "Seniors" may ignore the weakness rule for neutrals if they choose.

3) Evil - Evil USUALLY serves Robotnik. And if you serve Robotnik, you are evil. Not Neutral and far from good. But evil can be so much more as well. Nack the Weasel is a sniper for hire. He will capture and maybe even kill for a price. He is about as "good" as evil gets since he's pretty close to being neutral. People who would work for Robotnik, people who HATE freedom fighters, people who look desperately for bad things to do such as beating up children for the heck of it... these are evil. And since these are going to be the obstacles which the goodguys have to face, these "obstacles" are going to be quite powerful.

    A) Evil may have many powers. Example: Blipvert exudes light AND sound at
staggering levels and rates. Ra can breathe fire, is super strong (even
for his size), can cause Earthquakes simply by jumping. You get the idea.

    B) Evil may be multi-talented in addition to the powers. Example: Blipvert
is strong, fast, durable, etc. Really, the abilities seem endless when
in a fight against an evil person. Feel free to discuss with me and be
warned that even I might consider something too powerful for an evil
guy (This is called "A Struggle for Hope".. not "You Have No Chance to
       Survive Make Your Time")

    C) Evil may have any kind of weapon you can dream up. Especially guns.
Example: Ra has helecoptor grade twin rocket launchers on his shoulders.
       Nuff said.

    D) There are no senior benefits since evil characters can only be so
       powerful.

As a final note, nothing says you HAVE to be all that powerful if you are neutral or evil. You could be evil and be as powerful as a good if you so desire. I won't complain.

Rule 08: Changing sides

I almost decided to not allow this, but the fact that it would restrict how people roleplay was too disturbing. Anything is possible somehow, so this is where I discuss how you might go from being a goodguy to a badguy or vice versa.

Neutral become evil or good:
Neutrals only need be nudged / persuaded by one side or the other with enough arm twisting. But as simple as that sounds, that doesn't mean it's easy. Samuel will not easily be persuaded to be good, for instance, and will also not easily be persuaded to be evil. (Dunno who Samuel is? Look for him in the Character Introduction Thread) I ask a TP for this side switching to happen.

Good become evil:
1. The goodguy is captured and roboticized.
2. The goodguy winds up a traitor for some very VERY good reason. In other words, make it believeable.

Evil become good:
1. The character was a robian and gets deroboticized. Note: This takes ALOT of effort. For it to happen after you made a robian character would mean you have to tell one of the admins ahead of time and make a TP (Tiny Plot) that gets an OK.
2. The character was a robot who got reprogramed. Note: This does NOT happen often. In fact, reprogramming will be treated like deroboticization; A TP will be required.
3. The character was a mobian who once worked for Robotnik somehow without being roboticized and finally gets persuaded or freed (If said person is a prisoner) to do the right thing.

Ok maybe you are saying duh about now. But let me tell you... there are those who would have you believe a goodguy would suddenly be evil for no reason. Or a badguy who would suddenly be good for no reason. This is wrong and forbidden.

Don't forget the rules involving switching sides for Uncommon or Rare races. For more on that, refer to rule 04, section E.

IMPORTANT! You might want to be an agent for one side and betray the other and yet nobody know about it until it is too late. All you need do is ask one such request from an admin. Let me (Timothius) know and all is well. But remember... I require explanations.

On a final note, if you want to switch sides, try not to make a habit of it. You will not survive. Both Robotnik's forces AND the Freedom Fighters will hunt you down and slay you. After a certain point, if you cry wolf too much, nobody will believe you.

Rule 09: Weaknesses
This forum encourages having a listed weakness. You do not need one if you are already weak, but you can have one even if you are already weak if you like. If you are neutral and taking full advantage of the abilities available to neutrals, you MUST have a weakness (Unless you are marked as "Senior"). Goodguys must have a weakness if they are as strong as a goodguy is allowed to get.

There is a special reward for using weaknesses on goodguys. If you have enough weaknesses and they are convincing enough, you could wind up with a balanced, but very capable freedom fighter. Timothius is a good example. He can fly and can do so really well, he's a doctor, he has a "magic" tunic of sorts and on top of that, is a talented artist/musician. But he has three weaknesses with emphasis on how weak his is (He's got something similar to Shelly's weakness PLUS he's less strong than normal guys and less enduring, able to be knocked out easy).

Finally, any race marked with "Weakness Required" must have a weakness of your creation in addition to whatever is under the attributes.

Rule 10: No cussing

Cussing happens. I know. I realise this. But please try to understand this place is for all ages. As for In-Character cussing, it is not tolerated. Sonic does not cuss and heck... even Robotnik does not use the cuss words you and I have come to know. No cussing once you start roleplay or you will be suspended from roleplay.

It should be obvious what I mean here. When you are roleplaying, you can use words like darn, crud, beans, fiddle-sticks, or even clumheep. You can also use @#$% and other such signs as a form of cursing. You may NOT spell out a cuss word using alternate means. For example |_3@rn = Learn.

I understand some don't have the same standards as I do, so you might say some cuss word and you didn't even know it was cussing. As a result of this, this rule is a 3-strike rule. If you get caught cussing on 3 occasions, you are out. Because by then, you should have been informed what is considered cussing.

Rule 11: Yiffy Descriptions
Ok... so this is not too important, but please remember that if a seven year old is posting here, the last thing he or she needs to read is some sexually explicit material. No sexual suggestions in your description beyond mentioning your gender. I think we all know what that entails.

Rule 12: Pose Order and Things
In order to keep the place from stagnating, I ask that you post at least once a week. I understand RL gets in the way. I understand forgetting (I'm guilty of this and I'm the GM). But unless you specifically say you're going to be gone longer than a week, please take a moment from your time in a given day to check the thread specifically titled "Pose Order" and then see if it is your turn to type stuff. That thread is there to keep people posting. That said, we have enough players that one post from each once per week could mean it could take a month for someone's turn to come up. To help prevent this sort of thing, I ask that the pose order be more a guide. If someone's turn would not have any significant effect on you, do not wait for that person to post before you do.

Rule 13: Adding or Taking from the Rules
This is something unique I have decided to add that most places do not have. If you like, you can add a rule, take a rule out, or modify a rule depending on how convincing your argument is. Simpley PM me and you can get started.
