Creative project

for first post, put in what your votes would be for the genre.  It sounds like a city and currounding area is the size of the project.  Also put if you have no real pref, for example:

"I could do a low tech steam-punk game with magic.  Or straight fantasy.  Or post apoc.  but not high tech scifi"

Re: Creative project

Just a thought:  while it's probably best to start with one genre, there's no reason others can't be folded into it later.  Some of the best games bend genres all the time.

Post Apolyptic
Horror is doable but a bit overdone
Fantasy is doable but definitely overdone

Re: Creative project

of course even if we did, say, a western town, the trappings could be changed to make is scifi or etc.

personaly, I'd like to do whatever is most useful, what genre either is played a lot and/or has a lack of support.  there is a ton of stuff for Deadlands if you include classic.  Theer is a lot of stuff for fantasy if you don't mind borrowing from other systems.

post apoc I could see, one day Darwin's world will come out for SW.  Or SciFi.  Or something outside the usual, Monster hunting in the roaring 20s for example

so for me:

Post Apoc
Modern Fantasy (earth today, magic exists openly)
Modern Secret Fantasy
Genre stew - either a time/dimension travelling game, or Where Worlds Collide, a dimensial bloowie mixes up pieces of differnt worlds.

Re: Creative project

Dieselpunk (think steampunk meets the industrial revolution and pushes on into the 1920-50s) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C...rivatives#Dieselpunk

Modern Fantasy (ala Dresden Files)

Re: Creative project

I tend to want to bounce between Steampunk, Dungeonpunk, Gothic Horror (think Rippers or D&D's Ravenloft), and Iron Age Supers, myself. I have a penchant for cynical settings.

I think Dieselpunk could be very interesting...think images of the Warriors mixed with Streets of Fire.

Re: Creative project

only a few had more than one vote

Supers - rams, stray
Post apoc - rams, oggy

horror - (rams)
Fantasy - (rams)
Modern Fantasy - oggy
Modern Secret Fantasy - oggy, Strickland
Stew - oggy
Diesel punk - Strickland, skycast
Steam punk - stray
dungeon punk - stray
gothic horror - stray

If the idea is to do a city/region, you could almost do it to apply to each of those, with optional settings

Re: Creative project

I think it would be really neat to do the same city in multiple genres/time periods. Keep the overall geography and surrounding geography the same (unless there was some realy huge geological event) , see what happens to the city throughout several iterations.

I'm still on a steam/diesel punk kick though, so if you're still taking votes that's mine. I don't mind which one, I think if we did diesel it'd be easy enough to convert it to steam if you wanted to.
