"...so that's the situation," Yoritomo Akuto says, finishing speaking of the situation with the Crane and the Minor Clans, "do you have any questions, Sumi-san?"

Sumi looked suddenly surprised as if put on the spot, but the expression faded fast into a thoughtful one. "Hai, Akuto-dono. Have you considered that perhaps you might achieve better results with only a small number of Mantis leading a larger number of people from the minor clans? It would demonstrate their support of you as their representative better, suggesting that you have their full confidence and illuminating your ability to lead them. Rather than bringing in an army of your clansmen leading deligates of the minor clans."

"Well, the Mantis can only bring a small force to bear on such short notice in any case," Yoritomo Akuto shrugs, "but we weren't about to let the Crane know that."

"Let them see it, but give them reaon to doubt what they see. Let them fool themselves." Sumi said again. It seemed obvious to her. "They will undoubtedly be expecting something like that from you, some show of boldness. Do not give them one, be perfectly open with them. They will expect something so much they will likely make many wrong conclusions."

"Well, it seems I've a lot to learn about dealing with the Great Clans of the Court," Yoritomo Akuto grins, "but we have to have somewhat to deliver on our promises.  One of us ought to go negotiate with the Minor Clans while the other visits the Crane to see how our offer has been taken.  Take your pick."

"Hai, Arigato gozaimasu Akuto-dono. I am your humble servant, I could do you well at both places, but I think I could do you the most good visiting with the Crane." Sumi explained. She was honestly torn over which assignment she wanted since she could see opportunities with both. But, in the end her instincts guided her toward the Crane, hoping for better chances there.

"Very well," Yoritomo Akuto smiles, "keep me updated with your progress."
