I love venison. Always plan to roast some or braise some for Christmas...then I look at the prices and decide beef is good-enough for my kids.

Someone donates it every year. Since northern Georgia has a slightly greater number Well, in the shelter's case its always donated.  Some hunter donates one, or three or four, so we don't pay for it. Deer slow cooked is rather good.

Hmmm. Coincidentally, the guy sitting next to me at work was looking at the Costco site today, and they will deliver meat to your house! Including venison, bison, and boar!

FWIW, Meat by Overnight Shipping has come a long way in the last 25-30 years.
It's actually pretty efficient and low-risk...lower, in some cases, than your "local butcher".

It basically gets the same treatment that "live" organs and temperature sensitive medications (like insulin) get: typically, 24-48 hours from door to door. There are gel-based freezer packs that keep the cooler interior well-below freezing (and can do so for months) and very thick industrial-grade coolers.

My brother-in-law has shipped us Omaha Steaks a few times over the last 15-20 years and the improvements to packaging have been really impressive. I would expect any reputable meat merchant to offer similar quality components.

I know folks who use those "gel packs" to keep their insulin cold when off-grid for several days at a time in high summer (100+ F temps, >90% humidity).

I might pull the trigger this year...

My brother-in-law would get a deer every year, and we would make venison jerky. One of those cool memories that popped into my head because of you guys. Thanks.  :)

Those of you who have been at one of the Nemrac inns and heard that, "Kurt brought in a deer just last night," and been offered a taste of venison stew? That's a nod to my brother-in-law Kurt who always had enough deer meat to go around after hunting season. Hit My Brother's Inn or any of the other inns, and Kurt just might make another appearance.  :^)

Maybe someone here can help me here. I have several good quality packs, saddlebags and the like... none of them way one pound when empty.
So how did the creators arrive that a large pouch should weigh 1 lb?

Encumbrance is really two values, weight and volume, so it is difficult to represent with a single number and unit. AD&D uses coins for most items and pounds a few things, which was confusing. AD&D 2e started using pounds for everything, which gives the impression it only refers to weight of an item.
