sorry,busy over the weekend, work sucks, anyone know how to not work and make a living?

I have found a way too not work and make a living, but it's probably not a trade off you would like, as it requires being old. Mind you, my pension was pretty decent, if I were young I would certainly look for a job with a pension rather than a savings plan, I feel I got pretty lucky.
If it makes you feel any better, the site was down for much of the weekend, you couldn't have posted anyway.

Sure, I do that.  I am retired.  Oh, I used to work, but no longer.  Now I play games and sing.

got my twenty four years in uniform with the Army, but I was just out of high school when I joined. still stuck working for another thirteen years to hit early retirement. no, i was thinking of some amazing and easily plan that would allow me to make fabulous stacks of cash, be adored by amorous young women, make my hair less gray, enhance my sex drive, give me all the free time I want, make me lose weight, and get Oprah banned from all media access.

Ban Whoopie while you're at it! Can't stand her! I was in the army 8 years. back in the late 70s early 80s.

mid 89 to early 14 for me. Iraq both times, Balkans, Somalia, Afghanistan, and numerous 'little' deployments here and there. Always remember; be safe, never go full huah.

I did five years. Got to live in Germany for three, so that was awesome. Joined under Reagan, so I was shocked when I got out without having a war to fight, his rep was such that it was assumed.
Not sure if I would do the twenty if I could go back. It certainly has some advantages, I would love to have HOP privileges.

You sound like me, I went in in 1979, got out in 1982 as an MP and served in the active reserves as a helicopter mechanic for 3 years then went back in from 1985 to 1987 as Field Artillery.

Lived in Germany for 2.5 years, long stretches at Grafenwehr and a cold as hell Christmas in the Fulda Gap at -50^o F

Oh damn! I had a friend who worked in RATT rigs stationed in Wildflecken (which we all called Wild Chicken) for awhile. I was in a luxury duty station, Heidelberg community, but I would drive up there to give him a break when I could. Three hundred miles in three hours! Love the autobahn!

Luxury barracks in Babenhausen, lived on the economy for a year, lived like a king. 2 bedroom apartment 150.00 a month split by two! In Ramsen on Pfalz. I was stationed on a Nike Hercules site that time. In Quirnheim.

Damn! That sucks... I rode my motorcycle from Bremerhaven to Heidelberg, that was fun. Had a tire fly off once driving a friends car, though luckily I was going slow enough that I could see it pass me and fly off into the bushes as the sparks started to fly up.

I served '75-'79.  4 years, one month, 13 days, but who's counting.  I was Security Police in the USAF.  We guarded airplanes to make sure they didn't leave by themselves.  Actually, the cold war was kind of a psychological scare when you were guarding nukes, as people always thought the Ruskies would want to attack our planes on the ground.  Then college, then working for the Navy programming navigation software for the EA-6B Prowler, then the Air Force hired me to analyse information for them.  Did that in a lot of areas for a lot of years.  I am fairly good at data mining and analysis.  I was only too glad to retire and get out of the puzzle palace.

cool service guys, thanks for sharing. i joined under an  11X contract and actually made it into 2/75. I served in all of the Ranger batts, even the training batt, 5th Group, AMU at Benning as an instructor, 1SOD-D, and JSOW school at Bragg as an instructor. I feel like I burned the candle at both ends and the middle some mornings when I wake up.

I wanted to settle down and have that 'normal' life. I just don't have an idea of what it is. I still get up at 04:30, do PT, clean the house having had by 07:30.

Our towers were full of bullet holes in the armor with bullet proof windows broken from being hit too. It was psychological warfare.

Started out as a combat engineer, ended up as a medic in Iraq
From the Army (Inter)national Guard during OIF (I call it operation OIL)
Just substituted liberation for freedom

Came back medically released

My buddies who served have stories to tell, too. So do my dad and father-in-law. When I was younger I couldn't have passed the physical, but my life worked out okay, anyway.

I'm glad the weekend's rpol problems got solved. I had this fear that it would be severe enough to lose all our games and force us to start from memory trying to recreate so much info. I can see Errol's new sheet now...
