Re: The Twilight Tomb: Mourel's Mausoleum

OOC: I should get an AOO too right?

Jorn swings his chain as the brain rises, trying to take it down before it can cause more mayhem;

15:46, Today: Jorn Brightcaller rolled 6 using 2d4+4. Damage.
15:45, Today: Jorn Brightcaller rolled 19 using 1d20+7. Spiked Chain AOO.

Should the brain still remain standingfloating, the dwarf takes one last gamble by dropping his chain and drawing his throwing axe, sending the blade spinning upwards towards the leader;

15:51, Today: Jorn Brightcaller rolled 6 using 1d20+4. Throwing Axe Ranged Attack.

OOC: Jorn: yes, and your spiked chain threatens a big area. And Gurgun's right, you don't have to drop the chain completely. You can't make an AoO next round however (no weapon being properly gripped).

And Jorn, you finished off the brain-in-a-jar with your AoO! Write something cool. ;)

Re: The Twilight Tomb: Mourel's Mausoleum

The dwarf gasped in horror as the undead abominations started rising from the sides. With Gurgun covering from him against the horde, Jorn set his sights on the slowly rising head, spinning the spiked chain in his hand, then letting it loose at the foul creature.

"Yer not getting away foul creature!"

With a ear-splitting crack the end of the chain pierced the glass bottle the brain was stored in, striking into its pink, vunerable flesh. There was a mental shriek, one of pain, surprise and anger, and then only silence. The dwarf gave a satisfied grunt, turning to check if the domination had worn off Garel.

Balrok is doused in gook and fluid as the vat breaks, but that doesn't dampen his enthusiasm for the death of the brain.  "Gud shot, Jorn!" he calls gleefully.  If he is close enough, he then kicks the brain, sending it flying like a football into a nearby wall.  "Fer gud measure," he explains.  He's so distracted by the dead brain that his swing against the undead monkey lacks anything resembling focus.

13:34, Today: Balrok rolled 12 using 1d10+9. PA +2 damage.
13:33, Today: Balrok rolled 15 using 1d20+10. Attack v. Monkey PA -2.

Re: The Twilight Tomb: Mourel's Mausoleum

OOC: Balrok, it's out-of-control, undead killing machine, what do you think? :D
I'm not sure if the controller's death frees a dominated victim, but it's usually played that way. I'll roll a new Will save for Garel: 25. He's freed!

The reign of Mourel the Duskwalker ended, rather gruesomely and anticlimactically, with a mashed pink and grey brain flopping onto the glass floor. You'll still... not get... alive, here, die... the voice whispered in their minds, one last threat.

Until Balrok booted it into the wall, causing it to go splat.

Slove carved a chunk out of the girallon, but Balrok couldn't say the same, his axe only scraped its tough, dead hide. [Slove: hits, deals 14 damage. Balrok misses]

The girallon retaliated with an angry snort of noxious gas, and slammed a paw down on the elf's arm. [Girallon: slam attack 28, damage 10 @ Slove]

With the cold grip freed from his mind, Garel shook his head, his will his own at last. He raised his hands in a gesture of surrender to Gurgun. "It's me! I'm free!" he declared, then swung his staff at a nearby skeleton to prove it, but it ducked the blow. [Garel: Will 25, free. Attack 12, miss]

The remaining skeletons were out of their holes now, claws reaching and scratching and clutching. Balrok bore the brunt of one scraping at his armoured back. Another went for Jorn's throat, perhaps in revenge for the death of their master; his beard protected him from the worst of it, but he lost a fair few hairs in the process. [S1 claw attacks Balrok: 7 and 7, miss. S2 attacks Jorn: 21, rolled a 20, critical 12, no; and 7, miss. Jorn takes 5 damage!]

Re: The Twilight Tomb: Mourel's Mausoleum

OOC: Hello? Where is everyone? (Jorn's told me he will be absent for a few weeks, so he's okay.) I'll NPC/update on the weekend if Slove and Balrok don't check in.

Mid-Round Update:

With Garel finally free to act, he remembered what he could do to deal with the walking dead. Raising his starry amulet of Mystra, he cried "Let Mystra's touch return you to rest!" Beams of blue-white light lanced out from the seven stars, spilling around the corners and impacting on each of the undead fiends. The skeletons dropped into piles of inert bones, leaving only the hulking mass of the girallon still to deal with. [Garel NPCed. Turn Undead, turn check 19, turning damage 7, all skeletons destroyed]

"Good ta have ye back!" Jorn cheered, raising his chain in salute. He tried hurling the other end at the roaring girallon, but succeeded only in tossing it into Slove's back. "Sorry!" [Jorn NPCed. Attack 8, rolled a 1]

Slove struck the girallon again, but this time he couldn't pierce its thick dead hide. [Slove misses]

Balrok followed with an axe-swing of his own, and with more success. He chopped the zombie hard, cleaving it open. [Balrok NPCed. Attack 31, damge 16.]

The girallon retaliated, slamming its paw down hard on him. [Girallon: slam attack 31, damage 12 @ Balrok (added to bio-line)]

Re: The Twilight Tomb: Mourel's Mausoleum

Balrok hunted around the skeleton vault, though he found no traps and no great treasure.

Examining the glass jar that had contained the brain of Mourel Duskwalker showed that it had a backbone, of sorts - a foot-long twisted platinum rod, with a loop at one end and a large topaz at the other.

Jorn seized on it instantly. "Another one o' dem portal control keys! That makes two." he said, pulling an identical rod from his pack and comparing them. "We're sure to be gettin' out now! We jus' have ta get to the whatsit place controlling it."

He also peeked inside the skeleton niches and pulled out a dark shape, a gnarled horn fashioned it to a drinking cup, bound with platinum bands and set with gems.

"An' this is tha Grail that tha merchant Tulin Fairweather originally hired us to find, what got us out 'ere in the first place. That's made from black dragon horn, that it. And bloody ugly it is too."

Well, I have 14 HP left even after my rage ends -- that's enough that I won't keel over.  I went ahead and ended my rage in my stats.  So there's no particular rush unless we're ambushed down here.
