Use this topic to vent your random thoughts, ideas, suggestions... basically anything that crosses your mind. Remember to keep it as PG-13 as possible though...

Before you ask or say anything her hands "blur in attack" represents a sneak attack, the "killing blow" comes from her death attack ability which allows me to kill an opponent after studying them for three turns, so technically I could kill you with my bare hands..... scary isnt it?

Re: OOC

Technically, there would be a roll involved to detect the energy in the first place. It could be made untrained as well. However, assuming that you sense something without making the check is what is commonly reffered to as 'God Modding', and is frowned upon in most roleplaying games.

We didn't state a DC either, so we can assume that you don't sense it unless a GM specifically says you do... possibly.

Either way, even if you detected it, identifying it, or even suspecting that it's a clow card would require ranks in Knowledge (Clow), which nobody but a Cardcaptor or Li Warrior can have.

Re: OOC

The DC to detect it would be a bit high since its made its presence know once then hid itself, Sakura would know what it was by the simple fact that she has felt clow crads many(many) times before. So if you roll the check and post in ooc you might be able to keep your current post

Now, now. He's only been around for three posts. It isn't fair to judge people that quickly. Not only that, but it is horrible manners to quit a game based solely off of the presence of one person. It makes it seem like you're just making excuses to quit the game.

That aside, his IC posts are actually very well written. His character is just a little... unstable. But that's almost a defining feature of a Blob member, so he's only acting accordingly.

Holy shit guys. Three posts and you're on the poor guy's ass? I suggest you both stop being whiny bitches, suck it up, and see if his posts improve. I personally found the wtf in charater thing a bit annoying, but his writing style is perfectly fine.

Besides, I never said he was a member of the ORIGINAL Blob. Keep in mind the six of us are the TOP ranks, not the ONLY people in the organization. Francis is merely one of many underlings. Seriously, stop complaining about every little thing guys. It's a game. Try to not nitpick and spoil the game's fun.

I'd have to agree with Amarao. At the very least, such language and disrepect towards the DM looks bad to potential players. And, badmouthing Amarao or me is one thing, as we know you. If you want to do so, there are private messages. However, I never want to see anybody badmouthing other players. They don't know you, so they can't tell that you're always like that, or that you're joking.

Re: OOC

Good times. I just finished my 12 minute long Leeroy Jenkins video!!!! I plan on posting it on Youtube so people can view it. It took us twelve hours of filming and twelve hours of editing to get 12 minutes of film. Anyone know how to post videos on Youtube?  Jack, I accept it. I know how it feels to be under pressure and angry...I frequently feel that way when trying to use the **! internet at my house. I know pressure-I have to finish two seven page histories, finish four merit badges, retype a twenty page document and re-do five spread sheets. It's due MONDAY. I know pressure. Anyways, LEEEROOOOY JEEEEEENKIIIIINS!

Re: OOC

Theres only one more hard boss fight coming up, and its only hard because the boss cheats. But ater that the party will be split up via combat style and go their seaperate way. The partys will be Francis, Amarao, and Sakura on the first team, they will stay on this earth and try to slow MM down a little. Then there will be Jack, Ayame, and Sigfried who will move on to the next earth to fight MM there. The up coming Boss will be a way for Yuuko to test our strength along with introducing some of the important NPC's we'll be working with.

Re: OOC

Being the closest to death (-6hp), I would logically be the best person to answer your question. Unfortunately, I have no certain idea. By D&D definition, player death takes a major spell or act to revive namely; limited wish, wish, resurrection, true resurrection or miracle. Some major items have the power to restore the soul back to the body, but they are very expensive ( 70,000 gp or more ). Our diety (do we even worship deities in this game?) could restore us to life...or perhaps a demigod or someone of similar high power. Or, the GM's might say that because we have a "bond" to Yukko, that we can't die until it's finished. Other than that, I have no idea.

Other than that, for true death, grab those d6's and start rolling up a new character.

Yeah, it was scary. Emerald never got a chance to use his ultimate. He only used his regular attack 3 times, his laser volley twice (only getting two of four shots off before counter attacks wiped the turrets out) and counter attacked twice.

Most of the battle was Donald countering, or using KotR. He only used three megalixirs, and never had to use Final Attack: Phoenix.

Re: OOC

I hate to be critical but...I reallly like how this game is going. It's just insane enough to be funny, and just realistic enough to keep my attention. I want to fight and find out where the other feathers are, and how we are going to defeat MM. I really like these characters, and I think it would be a shame to let this one die off like terra, forgotten spirits. I want to see more of how this story develops, how Rune interacts with all of us and how the end boss is. I want to know! Now, I'm not saying that we have to post every hour, or every day. I just would like one post a week to keep this story moving along. I know school has started, and I have a job now so it's a little slower than in the summer time. I know how hard it is to balance schoolwork with fun and e.t.c. I just want to keep this game alive! I was very disappointed when Terra, forgotten spirits died, and I would hate to see this awesome, random yet very powerful story moving. I know there's not as many characters as we'd like to have, but we could still keep moving regardless.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I really love this story, how it's developing and the characters. Please post and don't let it die. For all the smurfs.

As far as I know they don't plan on continuing the xxxHolic anime, which is unfortunate as I LOVED that anime. If you want the whole story, the manga is your best bet. Of course, I haven't read the manga, as I don't generally get around to reading them, especially on the internet.

I'm trying to recruit people for online D&D...so far, I'm not sure how well it's working. 1. I'm trying to convince john (you remember him, right? The freshman who got into a fight with Tim?) to join, he seems interested, 2. I'm trying to convince Tim to join (see above) and 3 I'm trying to convince a new guy whose name I don't know to join. He seems the most interested, so I'm talking to him the most. Otherwise...well, I'm almost done with my eagle scout paper work, so after a few more things get done I'll tell you if I get it or not...it may take a few weeks so hold on...
how's school for you guys? I have 3 papers to write in 3 months. (Groan) I better get back to my Homework!
I'm sticking with calculus so far, but if I do horrible on the test then I'll drop to Math Studies (which is easier), and I'm staying with Espanol 4 because it's a challenge.

Re: OOC

I spend very little of my time watching Anime actually. To be quite honest I find that the bulk of my time is involved doing either A: Nothing or B: Something so ridiculously mundane that I write it off as nothing.

Because seriously, when I tell you guys I did nothing all day, it's ACTUALLY because I do next to nothing at all! It's not something I'm proud of, especially since I could easily apply my 'nothing' time to do something that's actually entertaining or productive...

Though, in my defense, a lot of that nothing time is spent debating what I want to do and feel like doing (I frequently want to play a video game but don't feel like it so I don't). What I find sad is that I'm actually drawing blanks as to how I consume my time and I just realized something startling: of all of the time that I have had since leaving high school, I remember probably less than 2% of it...

Re: OOC

Sad, but not hopeless. What you remember most in life are the events that had a profound impact on your day-to-day life. I remember little interesting about my junior year in highschool, and I'm trying to make my senior year more fun. I'm joining chess club, Japanese club (because I don't have the schedule for Japanese 1a and 1b), close-up, madrigals and tri-m. It's a musical department-NHS equivelant. But I digress. Most things in life are forgotten because they weren't important. Nothing life-changing happened. Nothing happened for the first time. Day to day life is mostly routine, that's why so much of it is forgotten because it's just more of the same.
Did anyone else get rejected for NHS? I applied and they denied me...I hate them.
On a good note, I'm almost done with my eagle scout rank advancement!

I didn't apply for NHS. A number of people told me I should have, but I had no desire to apply so I didn't. And I realize that I shouldn't remember most of what I do, but I find it kinda scary that when I looked back on yesterday just now, it actually took me like 10 minutes to actually come up with one thing that I did. I played Disgaea, talked to Don, and made a couple posts on RPOL... but all of that happened at around 2 PM... everything before then is basically blank.

But I digress as well, congrats on the Eagle Scout progression. How many ranks come after that?

For the (unknowing) support when I could log on and forget my twenty assignments due tomorrow, and the fact that I needed to get a merit badge done, Thank you. Now, Let the RPing begin! And no, I'm sorry, I forgot to ask for the rank of Grand Troop Ninja. However, as I am a Boy Scout for my last five days, I have now achieved the rank of Grand Troop Ninja, thanks to The Blob. As for the whole 'fanboy' thing... I actually have a similar idea in mind... but the fact remains that FLCL is only one season, and I have a lot more series that I like, so I don't follow that rule.

That's the last thing I need, all of CCS, Chobits, Tsubasa, Holic, Evangelion, AND FLCL... which oddly enough are all either CLAMP or Gainax...

All of those anime that you listed are excellent. Among my top anime at least. I am what one would call a CLAMP fanboy. I don't buy memorabilia or cosplay or anything, but CLAMP anime is one of the few things I'd actually say that I love.

CCS in particular, though Holic was great, Tsubasa is very good, and Chobits was pretty entertaining. I'd really recommend watching the entirety of Trigun and, if you like it, CCS. Not everyone can get into CCS, but if you're the type that can, it's a great series.

I'd also recommend Neon Genesis Evangelion, by Gainax, the people who did FLCL. It's odd, like FLCL, but in a different way. It's a lot more adult as far as sexual situations and violence go, so be careful about watching it near children if you find the episodes.

At first I was worried about how that would effect the game, but if you watch the video that accompanies the announcement, he looks like a pretty sweet speed character... I may just have to switch from Marth/Pikachu to Metaknight/Sonic...

Yeah, tell me about it. It almost makes me wonder if CLAMP was listening to the radio when they were creating Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles and Billy Joel's "River of Dreams" popped up, and they understood it...who knows? Maybe if you write them a  letter in Japanese you'd get a response...of course, if they didn't answer you for fear of copyright infringement that would also be likely too. LOL!

Re: OOC

On to lighter accounts and reasonings, I have to mark a special day today. Or yesterday. Or sometime during this week. On this week, I reached a special moment in my RPoL career. My third game I was in (okay, two, and a third one I was trying to get into) have been put into the "Deleted" section. Let's all have a moment of silence for those games.

And, if you're reading this because you're interested in the game (Yeah, you, sitting at the computer!) please join if you're interested. The story has just begun, and there's so much more we could do if you just asked permission from the GM's. I'm sure that they will say yes and let you join. Two CLAMP manga, mixed with  FLCL, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, xxxHolic and Card Captor Sakura (Along with a few dashes of Full Metal Alchemist, X and others) in one game? The chance to join is waiting! Opportunity is knocking! And if you delay or wait to join, opportunity will stop knocking and you'll regret it! So don't let it happen and join today!

Any way, Word to the wise, Francis, the only reason you got that sick is very simple:

YOU DRANK RED WINE MORON!

Normal liquor will mess you up, but red wine is teh worse. Hell I knew that when I was like four. Never, ever drink red wine in access. As a rule of thumb, the lighter the liquor (in order of actual color, followed by strength) the better off you'll be. For instance, had you consumed have to amound of vodka as you did wine, you'd have been far more drunk (RE: dead) but if you servived, the hangover would have been much better.

And Jack, don't boast about hard lemonade. The cough syrup Hrancis drank had a higher alcohol rating.

Brandy, now there is an upstanding, moderate strength, versitile liquor. Brother of the greatest thing ever, whiskey.

Who? no, Just kidding. I know who you're talking to. So, I'll take that into consideration next time I go drinking. Well, that will be in a few years, but I'll store the information away for that day. I'm not lucky to have your heritage....my heritage sucks. I've got alcoholics on both sides of my parents' trees, all my great-grandparents were alcoholics. So, no. I don't plan on ever getting drunk again.

Re: OOC

So, on to more pleasant things...
I'm helping run a D&D game with some senior friends (not from harding, unfortunately :(  ,) so, I was wondering ...

Anyone have any advice for DM'ing? I have almost no clue and I'm kinda anxious/worried about how to DM.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

And secondly, do we all still live in MN? Could we all get together for a 1st annual Blob meeting? Eh? What do you guys think?

K. Well, a lotta shit has happened recently, sorry for not posting.

1. I got a girlfriend who plays D&D, loves anime, likes me, and is a size D.

2. I've been having problems with my parents, so I haven't been able to get online much.

3. REcent problesm: Been behind in schoolwork, and I've been spending lots of time working to get caught up, am Currently caught up.

4. Biked away from home two nights ago, because they took my D&D books and my cellphone recharger. I stayed the night at my friend's house, and last night I went back home. I haven't had a reliable online connection for a long time- except at school. So, that's my personal crisis and everything else that's been going on.

I'm going through a bunch of problems right now. They include a bullying teacher, my mom telling me that my dad has never loved me or ever cared for me, and getting the Child Protection Agency involved. I'll be back as soon as everything settles. If you are so inclined to pray, please do. Any positive feelings, thoughts, e.t.c. will be greatly appreciated. Any encouraging PM's would also be greatly appreciated.

The teacher situation and the Child Protection Agency have been taken care of.
My mother, well...that's a different story. I'm no longer living with her. I'm in my dad's house, recovering and trying to talk to her. Things aren't working out, no matter how I try. At least I'm not feeling suicidal anymore! Life is good.

The next D&D game we play I'm gonna play as a Chaotic Neutral Wizard that wields a mancatcher and is named Stumpy Peeps. He lives in a house made out of tree stumps that he magically removes for extra cash when he's not adventuring thus he is given the name "Stumpy"

oh, and yes, that makes him a tree-wizard.

"Nice... gem." said Janek, no quite sure what to say. Materia? You pick anything up? Radio Tokyo is having an haiku-contest and a local station does re-runs of <i>Firefly, but from the gem - no.</i>

All the while Janek's eyes are rolling and he shrugged apologetic.

Really? Does this mean I could submit a haiku for the contest?

I started college this week, and ever since Monday I've been swamped with homework. I've been working on and off every day of the week with no foreseeable end. The workload should, hopefully, lighten up in a week or two. A short epilogue for the Vikings 2009-2010 season.

After doing well with Farve, the vikings went into overtime against the saints.
The Vikings lost the coin toss.
The Saints, er, Refs, won the game after the Saints failed to get first downs and the refs had to call false penalties on the Vikings.

Rest in Peace. We will remember you fondly as the year the Vikings should have gone to the superbowl.

Re: The situation is serious, but not hopeless.

So I'm trying my hand at DMing and I came across an amazingly stupid character.
Here's the situation: The party decides to go down to the basement of crumbling ruins. Two iron doors are clearly marked "Do not enter. Unstable foundation ahead." so what does the party do? They decide to go in past the doors. There's a white mist that stops everyone from seeing more than 5' ahead of them. What does the LN cleric decide to do?
Not walk. Not jog. Not even run. Nope. He decides to charge into the mist without a light source.
He discovers a 920' pit-with his head.
The player was pissed but I even asked him "you sure you want to charge?"
 "yeah!"

Re: Back in Black, baby!

5e is a streamlined version of 3.5, for better and for worse.
Pros:
The +2/-2 mechanic is replaced by having either Advantage or disadvantage.
D&D runs faster and is simpler.
All classes have some access to magic through certain subclasses.
They reduced the number of spells (ex. Cure/inflict wounds spells) into one spell line that changes if you upcast it so you have more room for other spells to cast.
Bards have access to levels 7-9 spell levels.
Barbarians now get resistance to bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage when they rage instead of the person pitifully low and slowly increasing DR.
Clerics get channel divinity abilities besides the turn undead that they can recharge on Ashley rest. Turning undead is faster and quicker than in 3.5.
Wizards who specialize no longer have to pick schools of magic that they are prohibited from using.
No more universal magic school for wizards.
Specializing in magic schools grants new abilities and ways to alter your spells instead of +1 spell slot per level.
Paladins can choose paths that don’t force them to be LG.. They run the range from are LG through CE.
Sorcerers (and only sorcerers get access to metamagic options for their spells.
They reduced multiple spells into one (the six Animal’s buffs are now just one spell).
For casters who memorize spells, you can just memorize spells and not have to fill out which spell slot you memorize it, so it’s more flexible.
They reduce the number of skills, and got rid of skill points, so you don’t have to remember which class gave you which skill proficiencies and what the maximum number of skill points is for your level.
Prestige classes are baked into the major classes, and you don’t have to worry about meeting any of the various extraneous requirements (like having the right number of skill points, a certain save amount, etc.
Feats are optional, but because there are so few of them they can really impact your character and how they play.
Short rest healing with Hit Dice and full healing after long rests enables parties to play without someone feeling pressured into playing a cleric.
Casters with cantrips are more useful, as they can cast 0-level spells practically forever, so the class can do things other than fire crossbow bolts at enemies after they run out of spells.
Cantrips also level up with you, which is super useful, so even at higher levels you can do some damage.
They remove the limitless character attribute bonus, so having a higher # in an attribute means a lot more. With 20 max attribute (24 if you are a 20th level barbarian or have access to magic items). Having a cap for enemy attributes also means that as you level up, you won’t have to keep cranking your primary stats to incredibly high numbers to keep up with enemies.
Most Martial characters (ir classes with a martial bent) get Extra Attack instead of dwindling Base Attack Bonuses a they level up. No more fiddling around with +15/+10/+5 to hit. At 15th level, for example, you would have +4 proficiency bonus and + # from your appropriate stat (ex +5) modifier and attack threes times with that same number (+9).
Higher HD for wizard and sorcerer. D6s instead of d4s.
No more level adjustments! You can play races like Minotaur or bugbear without losing class levels.
Backgrounds are more important as they usually give you flat out proficiencies with skills instead of just mostly being fluff.
Fewer books released = more info and options in every book. Also more affordable.
Alignment is simplified, and class alignments are dropped, so paladins, bards, monks, barbarians, warlocks, etc can now play in a wide variety of alignments
The concentration mechanic makes classes that can use spells to buff others more like of a tactical decision. You can’t just put on five buffs at the beginning of a fight and overpower your enemies. Do you want bless, +1d4 to attack rolls? Magic weapon for more damage? Haste for +2 AC, an extra action and advantage on dexterity saves?
Getting back up from 0HP is easier because you can’t drop to negative HP totals. Also, there are death saves (50/50 chance for success) instead of trying to roll below 10 /100. Also, rolling a 20 gives you 1HP and you can get back in the fight. Rolling a 1 counts as two fails for death saves, and you have to get three successeso or fails for a definitive answer on living or dying, instead of potentially bleeding out into one turn at a time.
Weapons now have properties like versatile (some 1h weapons can be wielded in 2h to increase their damage Die up a size)
Some Weapons have the finesse property so you can decide to choose either Str or Dex for to-hir bonuses and damage.
Heavy armor has strength requirements (ex 13), and if your character meets them, your character can move without movement penalties.

Cons:
Druids got nerfed with their wildshape abilities.
Shield categories (tower, heavy, light, buckler) are gone. Shields only exist in one category and provide a +2 AC bonus.
They got rid of the Colossal and Colossal+ size categories, though creature can still be that size.
Bard’s inspiration has a higher range (d6->d8->d10->d12) but are limited to inspiring one creatures a fewer number of times per day.
Bards no longer need ranks in performance skill to use their bardic inspiration abilities.
Clerics no longer automatically get heavy armor proficiency, only light, medium & shields.they also start with simple weapons & get other weapon & armor proficiencies based on subclass,
The sheer number of 3.5 splat books with spells, templates, classes, races, skills is enormous from official sources, and if you add third party books you have thousands of possibilities to choose from (if you have access to all of them, which most people do not).
Also, the cost to get a complete collection of just first party books is nuts, and adding in splat books you will spend thousands of dollars.
Also, the first 3.5 d&d session usually consisted of talking with the DM to see what books, web articles, home rules, and more were so you could build an appropriate character. Nothing like thinking of creating a fighter in a espionage game, or a social butterfly in a dungeon crawl.
I miss damage resistance with #s, like Fire resist 30. You have resistance to fire damage, vulnerability, immunity or just take damage from ITV
Small characters get disadvantage to wield weapons with the heavy or two handed properties.
Exotic weapons are much rarer and are split into simple or martial weapon groups.
Weapon crit ranges are now automatically when you roll a 20 only,  the only way to get a larger crit range is to take either the hexblade subclass of warlock (which only affects one target at a time) or champion subclass of fighter,

Re: Back in Black, baby!

Hello!

I'm now a corporate trainer for a large manufacturing company. I've been super busy at work lately, but it feels like I'm building a good professional network at this point and I feel like I'm on an upward trajectory.

Re: Back in Black, baby!

Nice! I’ve been busy working as a physical therapy technician in Illinois. I’m hoping to transfer to a receptionist position closer to my home. It takes me about forty minutes to get to work one-way.

Did you see the D&D movie?
