Damien

Damien's boat continues to approach the Krolowa from astern. Clarence almost considers firing a burst across the pimp's bows, but as it nears he notices that there doesn't appear to be anyone aboard except for a single figure at the con. The boat also looks a little worse for wear, several of the portals along the low covered passenger compartment are spiderwebbed or shattered and there are a half-a-dozen bullet holes clearly visible along her dirty white sides.

The boat slows as it nears the Krolowa. Damien is clearly no expert in small boat handling. As he draws alongside, his floating bordello rams the Krolowa's steel side, barely budging the big tug, but knocking Damien off of his feet and the small boat off its course. Damien regains his feet and attempts to brush off his shirt but stops when he notices that he's wiping it with blood instead. Horrified, he stares at his hands for several seconds as his boat drifts, before grabbing the wheel again and awkwardly guiding it alongside again. All of his pimp accoutremants are conspiculously absent. His coat, feathered hat, aviator shades, and cowboy boots are all missing. The front of his polyester butterfly-collared shirt is smeared with blood and his face is heavily bruised. He tosses a line to Tadeuz who stands protectively at the Krolowa's gunwhale, frowning at the small boat battering itself against his beloved tug's side.

Damien staggers to the rail of his own boat and yells [in Polish],

"Why didn't you assholes tell me about the fucking bandits at the locks?!?"

Those who look down into the open cabin of the small boat see Damien's portly, balding hired muscle lying flat on his flabby face in a large pool of blood. Damien's fresh hand-prints can just be made out in the edge of the drying wine-red stain. Damien's other "bodyguard", the skinny mohawked youth is slouching motionless against the side of the cabin, bloody hands clutching tight at his belly. His young face reflects the sickly green pallor of death. It appears that both of Damiens henchmen have been dead for some time. There is no sign of any of Damien's ladies on board.

The frantic Damien continues, his voice rising to almost a scream,

"They took my fucking sister! You assholes! You fucking assholes! You owe me!"

Re: Orders From Bayer

The sudden impact of boat on boat causes Anneka to wrest her eyes from watching her assigned area to Damiens boat. Even before they'd thrown the rope she was up and moving.
"White, get a med kit!" she yelled the instruction after seeing the copious amounts of blood. Dropping the butt of the PK gently to the deck, she rushed down to lend assistance yelling a reply in Polish as she moved.

[Private to 'Old' Adam Rataj; Cap'n Rae; Dawid Waldus Piotrowski; Griet Niewiadomska; Mariusz Tokarski; Stanislaw Switek: "Settle down and stop your yelling. How many were there?"]
Not mentioning the bandits had been an oversight on their part, but how were they to know what would happen?
[Private to 'Old' Adam Rataj; Cap'n Rae; Dawid Waldus Piotrowski; Griet Niewiadomska; Mariusz Tokarski; Stanislaw Switek: "We thought they'd been dispersed after the number we'd killed and driven off."]

Bayer leaves the bridge and gets to the rear of the Krolowa as the tug's crewman is securing the line. With his free hand he gently pushes aside back Tadeuz in a protective gesture to keep him from getting too close the pimp. At the same time he says to Tucker, "Don't put your rifle in his face, but be ready."

Quickly looking towards the upper deck he calls, "Mr. Switek, here please."

Bayer's knowledge of Polish was too limited to make any sense of the pissed off man's ranting.

Re: Orders From Bayer

Arriving to see Hauptman Bayer already onsite and calling for Stanislaw, Anneka quickly spoke to the Commander in his native German.
[Private to Konrad Bayer: "It's alright, I can translate while White and I treat his injuries. So far he's blamed us for the loss of his crew and sister at the lock. I've asked him to calm down, tell us how many bandits there were and that we'd thought they'd been driven off or killed."]
She paused to allow Konrad to respond before continuing.
[Private to Konrad Bayer: "Perhaps we can deal with his problems and our own at the same time by offering Corporal Yazzies assistance."
The marine had clearly stated in more than one occasion he wanted out. Here was a golden opportunity for him to do just that without the dishonour of being forcably expelled. A trained recon solider and sniper would be far more use to Damien than all the rest of them combined.

As the boat approaches to the minimum arming range of the Mk 19's grenades, Hicks releases the grips of the grenade launcher and picks up the GPMG at his feet. He rests the bipod legs on the railing, and moves around to keep the boat's crew covered as it pulls alongside. The combat crewman keeps the weapon aimed at the cabin even as the boat's driver yells at the tug's crew, and the crew responds.

Re: Orders From Bayer

Switek watches as the boat continues to approach and eventually docks on the other side of the tug.  He vigilantly maintains his post as all manner of obscenities pour forth from the boat's pilot.  Kasparov approaches Switek's position and engages the monk.  As the two begin to speak, he hears his name being called by the German on deck below.

"Come with me, Jason."  Switek motions Kasparov to follow as he moves toward the starborad ladder, his machinegun slung. "We need to talk.  Maybe after dinner?  I have sentry detail with Piotrowski following the evening stand-to.  We can speak then.  For now, just cover me."

Switek zips aft down the starboard ladder, again recalling the Marine's instructions.  He approaches the Hauptmann, unslings his machinegun and listens in to their visitor's tirade.

"He is very angry."  The monk paraphrases a translation of the stream of epithets and accusations for the officer in what he concedes to be quite an understatement.  He raises one eyebrow and looks toward the Hauptmann.  "You know him I guess?"

Switek continues to watch the exchange between the animated, yet obviously wounded, sailor and the petite Major.  He stands with his weapon at the low ready position and translates for Bayer in real-time as he takes in the carnage aboard the docked vessel.

Dawid sighed, releasing the handles of the AGS.

"No my friend, you were right. Also I think we can stand down for the moment."

"He says he was ambushed at the locks because we didn't warn him. His lackeys are dead, and the bandits have his sister now.

He dug out two of his terrible cigarettes for her.

"There you go, it was a heck of a good guess."

"Damn. That is bad luck, even for an exploiter like Damien."

He lit up a cigarette.

She breaks a friendly victory smile and takes the two Polish smokes - "Yeeaah. You are good sport Dawid, thanks." She slips one between her lips and carefully searches her pockets for a suitably safe spot.

Dawid Waldus Piotrowski:
Thinking for a second, he lit up a cigarette. "Wait here for a moment."

After getting a light herself she nods and says, "Yeah ok."

Seeing the CO take control of the situation, and members of the unit board the boat, Hicks stands down and returns to his action station. He makes sure that the belt of the M240 isn't twisted and sets the weapon down next to the Mk 19 after engaging the safety. With the adrenaline of the moment starting to leave his bloodstream, he fires up a ubiquitous cigarette and picks up the shotgun at his feet. A quick check shows that the weapon is empty, explaining its light weight, and he glances around to see who is nearby to ask about ammunition.

Mariusz remained at his station and manning the ZOO-2. He heard the sorry man's ranting and wondered at the whole story. He felt uncomfortable about the man's sister being in the hands of bandits. He had seen all to often how that played out, and none of the situations he'd seen were pleasant. He checked his new rifle once more, relishing the sturdiness of its weight and the beautiful German craftsmanship, heartless, calculating butchers the Germans might be, but they could make beautiful things.

Soon, he thought, I'll be getting to try it out.

He moves up with Jason and waits for Damien to be taken on board the tug before attempting to board the pleasure boat.  While standing there, Tucker switches out the HE round in the 40mm launcher for a flechette round and closes the action.  Tucker then turns to Jason, "OK.  It looks like we've got two down that are visible to us," he says pointing to the two laying in obvious view on the deck.  "When we met them before, they had quite a bit of peoples on it and I would imagine some kind of weaponry to protect them.  Not sure who or what is left but, we'll clear top to bottom.  Questions?  I know this ain't the norm for you chopper jockey's," Rob asks Jason as he slings his M-16/M-203 over his shoulder and draws out his Colt Python from his shoulder holster.

"Understood!"

Realising that the grenade launcher was useless at such short range, Dawid switched to the Tantal.

He charged the weapon and swtiched it to full auto, but kept it safed. This was a feature of the Tantal that the Kalashnikov didn't have; the older design's safety and selector switch were the same lever.

Sob Story

The very agitated Damien is bundled aboard the Krolowa. Once on deck, he swats angrily at the hands of those who attempt to guide him any further. He's no longer screaming, apparently too exhausted to continue to do so, but his tone is still shrill and accusatory.

"Let go! What the devil is wrong with you people?"

Once again noting the blood of his portly confederate drying on his hands Damien holds them up and continues his rant,

"This! This is on your hands! What the fuck were you thinking?"

Despite this talk of slain friends and the earlier mention of his captured sister (no one recalls seeing any females other than "working girls" on board during the first meeting with the self-professed pimp), Damien seems more upset about the destruction of his business than with the loss of his companions.

"They fucking took everything! Guns first, meds, booze, the gold and the girls. I've got nothing left! I'm ruined!"

As Switek and Anneka probe further, Damien describes his encounter with the keepers of the locks,

"Well hell, they were fine at first, the Russians. Or Ukranians.. I don't know, whatever! There were about six or ten of them and they were ready to make a deal. It was only when we mentioned that we'd traded with you bastards that they got rough. They beat me right good when I tried to stop the girls from leaving and they bayonetted Tiny after they found the... er, the stuff. Junior shoved one of the bastards overboard and got himself shot in the guts before I could get all the boat lines cut. They punched her full of holes before we drifted out of range. I was damned lucky to get the engine started! I've been going non-stop ever since..."

Damien's eyes refocus and he seems to recall where he is,

"Why the fuck am I telling you all this?!? You did this to me! You lot are going to start paying me back right now by repairing my boat! Then, I want as much fuel as she can carry. You're going to give me guns, food, meds... everything! Now quit fucking gawking and fetch me a coat!"

Griet has emerged from the bridge and stands looking down at the scene on the deck below. As Damien winds down his rant, she subtley draws her P-64 pistol, and holds it at against her side.

Tucker and Kasparov, meanwhile, search the small boat after confirming that both of Damien's crewmen are dead, and have been for quite some time. Nothing of value is left aboard, corroborating, at least in part, Damien's tale. They do find a couple of miscellaneous pieces of mismatched women's clothing, a broken Polaroid camera, empty food tins, cigarrette butts, and some makeshift shackles (padlocked chains and leather straps). Perhaps most poignant, amidst the garbage lies a big-eyed, armless, plastic doll.

Walter has slowed the Korlowa to a crawl to facilitate the unplanned boarding operation. The burned out remains of Gawluszowic pass slowly by about a half kilometer off the tug's starboard side.

Actions?
